Abstract

The ability to understand concepts is the mastery of the material in which students recognize, know, and are able to re-express concepts in a form that is easier to understand. However, students’ conceptual understanding skills still tend to be low. So it takes teaching materials that integrate these abilities. For this reason, this study aims to analyze the need for teaching materials based on mind map applications to improve students’ conceptual understanding skills. A mind map is a mind map in the form of a diagram that visually describes ideas, concepts, information, or other things. This type of research is descriptive qualitative. The research was conducted in one of the public junior high schools in Yogyakarta. The subjects in this study were 32 students of class IXA. Data collection techniques used interviews, concept understanding ability tests, and preliminary study questionnaires. While the data analysis technique uses the Miles and Huberman model which consists of data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results showed that teachers had not implemented mind map-assisted learning, students’ conceptual understanding abilities tended to be low, students were interested in learning using mind map applications because students could develop ways of thinking and make them more active during learning

Abstract

Critical thinking skills master the material where students know, know, master, and are able to express concepts in a form that is more accessible. However, critical thinking skills still tend to be low. So it takes teaching materials that integrate these abilities. For this reason, this study aims to develop Student Worksheets (LKPD) based on Project Based Learning (PjBL) in the context of critical thinking for class VII students on quality triangles and quadrilaterals seen from aspects of validity, practicality and effectiveness. This type of research is descriptive qualitative. This research was conducted in one of the junior high schools in Yogyakarta. The subjects in this study were 32 students of class VIIC. Data collection techniques used interviews, concept understanding ability tests, and preliminary questionnaire studies. While the data analysis technique uses the Miles and Huberman model which consists of data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study indicate that the teacher has carried out learning assisted by LKPD teaching materials. Based on the results of the assessment of material experts and media experts, the learning media is feasible to use with improvements. The assessment by the material expert obtained a score of 161 and converted into the “Good (B)” category and the results of the assessment from the media expert obtained a total score of 59 with the “Good (B)” category so that the learning has met the validity aspect, (4) Trial limited research involving 6 students, (5) Extensive Product Test was carried out on 32 grade VII students of SMP Negeri 12 Yogyakarta and the results of the student response questionnaire obtained a total score of 1504 with the category “Very Good (SB)” and has fulfilled the practicality aspect, (7) Revised Wider Field Test Results. From the results of the pre-test and post-test the average pre-test score was 24.38 and the post-test average score was 82.25 and the calculation results were in the “High” category and had fulfilled the effectiveness aspect.

Abstract

This study examines the characteristics that influence undergraduate students in public universities in Ogun State to use mobile learning technologies. Based on primary data collected using self-designed questionnaire, the study explored the effect of undergraduate students' perceived satisfaction, perceived ease of use, and perceived accessibility on the use of mobile devices in the classroom, as well as whether there is any difference in undergraduate students' perceptions of the usefulness of mobile technology for learning based on sex and age. Data from a random sample of 400 students from two public colleges in Ogun State was analyzed using the regression Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) technique. Undergraduate students' evaluations of satisfaction, ease of use, and accessibility have been found to have a direct impact on the usage of mobile technology for learning in public universities. Furthermore, it was discovered that, while age and gender have no significant joint and independent influence on the use of mobile technology for learning in public universities, undergraduate students' perceptions of accessibility, satisfaction, and ease of use have a positive significant joint and independent influence. The study discovered that undergraduate students' evaluations of satisfaction, ease of use, and accessibility encourage them to adopt mobile technology for studying in public universities in Ogun State. Undergraduates should be encouraged by obtaining, providing, or funding mobile learning technologies, according to the study. A section for M-learning applications should also be created to provide students with a visual and auditory tutorial.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the way of thinking of cybernetics students with Serialist and wholist thinking styles to solve English grammar problems. The study used a qualitative approach, so the data collection techniques used questionnaires and instruments in the form of tests of English grammar questions and interviews. Implementation of research at the Faculty of English Tarbiyah in the second semester of Fatmawati Sukarno State Islamic University Bengkulu in the 2020/202 academic year. The research sample used a purposive sampling technique, namely two students with a serialist thinking style and two students with a holistic thinking style. The results showed that the question information received by Serialist and wholist thinking style students entered the five senses directly through the senses of sight and hearing. The process of attention occurs after the questions are read and understood so that perceptions arise as concepts that are needed from long-term memory to solve problems. At the time of reunion, serialist thinking style students are very risky to improvise. While students with a wholist thinking style, the concepts needed in short-term memory are not stored properly by long-term memory, so these students often experience mistakes and forget when doing retrieval; as a result, these students are more likely to generalize excessively. These two thinking styles are expected to be able to become perspectives on the development of thinking styles in the teaching and learning process during the current pandemic.
