Abstract

The study aims to describe and explain the results of the lexical cohesion analysis contained in Tempo.co daring media related to reporting the presidential inauguration of the October 2019 edition. The method used is in this research is a qualitative descriptive method with 3 stages: (1) searching for data, (2) analyzing data, and (3) presenting data. Research data in the form of news uploads inauguration of the president on the daring media Tempo.co in October 2019. From the results of the study there were six types of lexical cohesion, where the type of repetition or repetition of lexical cohesion is most commonly found.

Abstract

The majority of Indonesians who are known to use social media as a means of communication and entertainment are certainly no strangers to the term ‘meme’. A popular meme phenomenon is the use of the word tenggelamkan (sink) at the end of the discourse popularized by Susi Pujiastuti, the former Minister of Fisheries and Marine Affairs. The purposes of this study was to find out the styles of language used in memes using the word tenggelamkan and their implications. The data of this study were taken from various pictures on the Internet with 15 memes in total. The method applied was descriptive-qualitative by using Grice’s theory of conversation maxims. The results of this study show that the themes used in memes with the word tenggelamkan include love, friendship, corruption, worship, and food. The use of language styles reflected from the memes are cynicism, paradoxes, and rhetoric. Meanwhile, the impicatures of meme the memes comprise satire, suggestion, and a combination of both.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to find the concept of decorum in Horace’s theory, that is te actions of teaching and delighting, as reflected in Khotbah di Atas Bukit (Preach on the Top of  the Hill) novel written by Kuntowijoyo. This is carried out by searching for the concepts of politeness combined with religious aspects to make the readers interested and able to take the lessons from the story to be applied in their daily lives. The search for ultimate peace of life regarding freedom that is thought to have been shackled by thoughts, memories and ideals.

Abstract

Semiotic or semiology means the systematic study of signs. What becomes difficult is defining what a 'sign' actually is. Modern day Semioticians, not only study 'signs' - it goes much deeper than that - they study how meaning is formed. Semiotic study how people first of all interprate a sign, how they then draw on cultural or personal experience to understand a sign. Pierce distinguished sign into three basic, there are: iconic, indexical, and the symbolic. An Icon has a physical resemblance to the signified, the thing being represented. Ozymandias is a fourteen-line sonnet by Percy Bysshe Shelley as English Romantic poet published in 1818. Ozymandias is a statue for another name of King Ramses the Great, Pharaoh of the nineteenth dynasty of ancient Egypt. The icon is depicted directly in the poem which represents the figure of king Ramses II with a statue. The new colossus is a statue for a classic American poem have fourteen-line sonnet by Emma Lazarus. The New Colossus was written in 1883 which adorns the pedestal of the statue of Liberty. The depiction of the character 'Mother of Exiles' as evidenced by the Statue of Liberty woman was written with the truth about what appeared and was seen and a deep sense of freedom. The portrayal depicted in the poem is immediately explained in terms of the denotation in its basic and original form. The depiction of the king's character was written with the truth of what appeared and was seen.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the functional structure of sentences containing prepositional phrases and categorical patterns of prepositional phrase fillers in the short story Senja dan Cinta yang Berdarah written by Seno Gumira Adjidarma. The focus of this research is the prepositional phrase markers. This research is a descriptive qualitative research. Data collection was carried out by the listening method followed by the advanced note-taking technique. The data analysis technique used is the distribution technique with the basic technique for Direct Elements (BUL). The results of this study indicate that the functional structure of sentences found 25 patterns. Based on the categorical pattern of prepositional phrase fillers in, to, and from the found 11 patterns. The use of prepositional phrases in the short stories serves to state the setting or place of existence and the media. The prepositional phrase to serves to express the setting or destination. Then the prepositional phrase of the function is to state the setting or place of origin.

Abstract

Short story is the story that has a short physical form. Short story is often expressed as story that can be read in one sitting. The storyline is simple and the background includes a limited scope. Short story are written in any languages, such as Javanese. This research was aimed to describe the forms and the grammatical meaning of subordinative nominal phrase that were found on the Javanese short story in Panjebar Semangat magazine published on February 2020. This investigation included two of short stories in this magazine entitled Kendhi Wasiyat and Sairis Semangka, each that represent a story for adult and romance. This study applied descriptive-qualitative method whose data were in the forms of phrases gained from the sentences in the short stories as the data sources. The data were collected by reading and note-taking which were then analyzed by using descriptive method. The results showed that the dominant subordinative nominal phrases (FNS)  in both short stories was N+N (noun + noun) structure with various  gramatical meanings. Other existing FNS structure were N+V, N+Adj, Adv+N, and Num+N.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was  to describe politeness strategies employed by the users to give comment toward Donald Trump’s Instagram Post on International Women’s Day and to explain the factors that influence the users to use the strategies. The researcher used the theory of politeness strategy by Brown and Levinson (1987).  In this research, the researcher applied descriptive-qualitative method. Because this research is to more explain about the findings politeness strategies employed by the users to give comment toward Donald Trump’s Instagram post. The data were taken from comment/utterance and source of data use document such Donald Trump Instagram Post. The instrument of this research is the researcher herself. Technique of collecting data use documentation methode and technique of analysing data use data reduction, data display, and conclusion. Then, the researcher uses source triangulation to validate the data. The researcher asks lecturer who master in Linguistic as validator of source data trianggulation. In this reserach, the researcher found positive politenes strategy is the highest strategy with total 276 (53%) data out of 525 data used by the users to give the comment toward Donald Trump’s Instagram post on International Women’s Day. The researcher also found social distance factor which factor is mostly influence the users used politeness strategy. It means when the users use social media to give comment, they want to show solidarity, treat the other users as a member of in-group, a friend, a person who are known and liked. So it can save the users and Donald Trump’s face and can minimize the distance between the user and Donald Trump.

Abstract

The method is a step or a way to make teachers assisted in conveying subject matter and to be able to achieve learning goals easily. However, if the method chosen is not in accordance with the subject matter, it will make it more difficult for students and teachers themselves. In this study aims to investigate / describe a story method that uses the formula 5w + 1h with the help of an image. In this study, the method implemented in this study is a descriptive-qualitative research method by collecting observation data and learning practices. The findings in this study show that there are advantages and disadvantages in using the story method. Here are the advantages of this story method, one of which is to be able to practice listening and speaking skills of learners. The listeners will get a positive impact, as well as getting a new vocabulary from the storyteller in front and the speaker can have the courage to speak in Arabic freely. While the lack of this method of this story, one of which is that it takes a long time to compile a story that is about to be presented.

Abstract

This study provides insight into the moral aspects of the characters in a drama script entitled Lakon Jeng Menul written by Puthut Buchori. Moral comes from habits or rules that a society has agreed to practice. The method used in conducting this research is qualitative methods with a descriptive type of research. The approach used in this study is a moral approach. The result of this study are various of moral aspects in the drama that can be divided into two opposite categories, namely: good and bad moralities. Among the fine morals reflected in the drama are: honesty, peacekeeping, autonomy, tolerance, cooperation, curiousity, law obedience, and politeness. Meanwhile, the bad moralities are shown by the acts of disrespecting spouse, dividing-and-conquering, thinking with prejudice, and being dishonest

Abstract

The aim of this study was to describe the forms of meaning ath-thibaq or contradictions in surah al-Israa’ of the Holy Koran. The method analysis was descriptive with data collection technique by documentation. The presentation of the results of analysis is informal by describing the data in ordinary words. The urgency of this study was seeing the Holy Koran as the guidebook of all people, since it was revealed after the other holy books and the exact meaning of the Holy Koran in the context of human civilization. Thus, the Holy Koran is always explored to get its comprehensive meaning, among others by the analysis of ath-thibaq meaning. The results of this study showed 19 verses which contain ath-thibaq with 4 different forms of contradiction, i.e.: (1) contradictions of meaning in different places in verses 3 and 69; (2) contradictions of meaning in the same word in verses 8, 82, 79 , and 97; (3) contradictions of meaning in sentences, consisting of fi'il with fi'il in verse 7, isim with isim (thibaq ijab) in verses 9 and 10, 11, 15, 18 and 19, 99, 102, and 104, thibaq salab-ijab in verses 23 and 26, and thibaq ijab-salabin verse 33.
