Jurnal Desain Komunikasi Visual Nirmana is published biannually, in January and July, by Petra Christian University. Jurnal Desain Komunikasi Visual Nirmana aims to promote a comprehensive approach to visual communication design incorporating viewpoints of different disciplines, strengthen academic exchange with other institutions, encourage scientist, practicing engineers, and others to conduct research and other similar activities. Jurnal Desain Komunikasi Visual Nirmana welcomes papers with the above aims and scopes. The editorial board decides papers to be published in Nirmana after review by reviewers appointed by the board. Authors will be advised of comments from reviewers and suggestions.

Abstract

Penyakit epilepsi masih menjadi hal yang jarang diketahui oleh masyarakat, karena umumnya pada kepercayaan yang terbentuk, epilepsi sering dikaitkan dengan roh jahat. Nyatanya penyakit ini memang merupakan gangguan pada saraf di otak yang membuat penderitanya kejang-kejang. Penyakit ini juga lebih sering menyerang anak-anak. Keterkaitan epilepsi dan depresi sangatlah dekat. Rasa kurang percaya diri, stress atau bahkan rasa sakit kejang-kejang yang tak kunjung henti bisa membuat penderitanya depresi. Target audiens merupakan teman-teman penderita epilepsi berusia 5-12 tahun. Dengan adanya media kreatif ini diharapkan bisa membantu rasa percaya diri, edukasi untuk berfikir positif serta penyaluran bakat atau kreatifitas bagi teman-teman epilepsi.

Abstract

Produktivitas merupakan kemampuan untuk mengelola sumber daya untuk menghasilkan sesuatu. Sayangnya, tingkat produktivitas di Indonesia terhitung cukup rendah. Bahkan, sebagian besar pekerja yang sudah memiliki latar belakang produktif kerap kali mengalami penurunan karena faktor kebosanan. Perancangan ini bertujuan untuk menciptakan stimulus yang mendukung produktivitas berupa stationery. Brand stationery ini dirancang dengan strategi yang berfokus pada brand experience. Perancangan ini menggunakan metode analisis kualitatif deskriptif. Adapun tahapannya yaitu, melakukan wawancara dengan stakeholder, consumer persona untuk mendapatkan consumer insight, dan SWOT kompetitor. Dengan landasan tersebut akan ditemukan brand essence dan brand positioning untuk menjadi landasan terbentuknya brand strategy.

Abstract

The study discusses on how Aqua as the product as well as brand and its cause related marketing activities become the source of popular culture. The customer and community as the stakeholder of Aqua create new meaning using the brand and its advertisement. The new meaning is representations of people’s daily life. Product, brand, and the cause-related marketing activities are a top-down communication that controlled by the capitalist. The representations are a bottom-up communication of people who are constructing and reconstructing their everyday life for their own interests.

Abstract

The goal of this practice-based research is to create new interpretations of traditional Omani Bedouin crafts to inform the creation of contemporary jewellery. According to observations made during fieldwork with settled Bedouin craftspeople, traditional Bedouin methods for tanning leather (using plant materials such as Galqa and Qarat) and the production of leather thread for weaving are described, as is the use of weaving techniques in the production of Shaabook (headpieces), Hebla (leather belts), and traditional homemade decorative trims (Talli, Siim, and Suffah). A collaborative/co-creation workshop with a group of settled Omani Bedouin in North Eastern Oman served as the basis for this research. Participants in the workshop had a variety of traditional weaving techniques under their belts. Working in teams, the participants wove modular elements that were then combined to form a neckpiece. Using reflective analysis, the issue of hybridity is investigated in order to establish a link between the past and the present in the creation of contemporary Omani jewellery pieces.

Abstract

Sampah plastik merupakan salah satu jenis sampah yang banyak dihasilkan oleh masyarakat pada saat ini. Kesadaran yang kurang dari masyarakat untuk mengurangi penggunaan dan mengolah kembali sampah plastik ini menyebabkan penumpukan sampah yang berlebihan di lingkungan. Melihat permasalahan yang ada, maka akan dirancang sebuah poster tentang bahaya sampah plastik bagi lingkungan menggunakan fitur augmented reality sebagai solusi kreatif yang dapat menarik perhatian masyarakat untuk mencermati poster tersebut dan menyebarluaskannya melalui media sosial. Poster ini dirancang menggunakan metode Design Method oleh Eric Karjaluoto, dengan harapan poster ini nantinya dapat meningkatkan kesadaran tentang bahaya sampah plastik dan mengurangi penggunaan plastik yang berlebihan.

Abstract

Media sosial merupakan sarana komunikasi yang digunakan di era modern. Akan tetapi penggunaan media sosial tidak selalu berdampak positif, pelanggaran hukum sering terjadi di media sosial seperti ujaran kebencian dan penyebaran hoax. Kalangan SMA menjadi salah satu kalangan yang rawan menjadi korban atau pelaku pelanggaran di media sosial dikarenakan tingkat emosi yang belum stabil walau sudah dapat berpikir secara kritis. Solusi berupa media pembelajaran berbentuk game edukasi Visual novel berjudul “Freshmen” dikembangkan dengan tujuan untuk mengedukasi siswa SMA akan pentingnya etika dalam bermedia sosial. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian adalah satistik deskriptif. Hasil evaluasi menunjukan bahwa siswa menjadi lebih paham tentang etika dalam bermedia sosial setelah bermain game “Freshmen”.

Abstract

Legen and tuak beverage container made of bamboo has different names and functions namely bethek, centhak and ongkek. This study aims to see how people use bamboo as part of local wisdom in the form of legen and tuak container. The society gaining knowledge from living with the nature finds that the functions of a bamboo are being thermal insulation, being a not-easily-broken container, maintaining flavor and aroma, and making the content in it more durable. Apparently, the sustainability of this natural-made packaging is not only due to its function which is tangible but also related to the socio-cultural of the local community especially how they produce, consume and distribute legen and tuak.  In practice, local wisdom of bamboo as legen and tuak beverage containers continuously gives attention to the balance of nature that does not destroy or force the nature to produce more than its capacity, it is inherited from generation to generation, and it is correlated to the culture. It contains the philosophy of self-controlled and sharing.
