Abstract

Islamic law rests on the precipice of Al-Waḥdah (Unity) which includes unity of the humankind, unity between human being and his environment, unity within the family, unity of the state and society, of government and politics, of economy and culture, and law and policy. Several studies have tended to focus on the negative perception of Islamic law as inimical to national unity while little or no attention has been paid to its cohesiveness and civilizational dialogue with other cultures. Using socio-historical approach, the paper examines the concept of Al-Waḥdah paradigm in Islamic law in Nigerian legal context with a view to understanding the implications concerning national integration. It was discovered that Islamic law had contributed to the integration of Nigeria as a nation in the past and its neglect would not augur well for national integration. This paper therefore, argues that Islamic law has a lot to offer in the national integration of the country especially in the areas of education, economy, socio-psychology, morality and diplomacy. Finally, the paper affirms that the significance of Islamic law transcends religious sphere, and hence, should be allowed to play its role in the national integration of the country. It suggests that for national integration to be achieved in Nigeria, Muslims in the country need to re-orient themselves to the concept of Al-Waḥdah articulated by Islamic law.

Abstract

Prophet Prediction is a tanabuāt which is related to his prophetic task for the events that have not yet occurred, but the occurrence can be sooner or later, and the event is certainly inseparable from the sociological conditions of the dinamical and developing society. To understand the hadith of the Prophet which is predictive, it needs to focus on various aspects, it starts from the semantic context and the linguistic structure of the hadith text, the appearance of the hadith, the position of the Prophet when delivering the hadith, the context of the mukhathab that followed the Prophet and how to connect the hadith text of the past to the present context. Therefore, it can capture meaning precisely, without forgetting its relevance to the contemporary dynamic context. The hadith of Sahih Muslim from Abu Hirairah which mentions two grups including the inhabitants of hell, predicts the occurrence of arbitrariness, injustice, and the moral crisis of political rulers who have impartial policies for the welfare of the people, and the existence of women who are increasingly brave to stimulate lust, and people who turn away from the big problems that are being faced.

The aim of this paper is to analyze the strategy of Ustadz Abdul Somad (UAS), the currently most popular preacher in Indonesia, in utilizing the internet for the purpose of Da’wa (Islamic propagation). Findings reveal that UAS’s success lies on his ability to persuade his audience to record his sermons and post them individually to the internet, especially on video-sharing platform of youTube.com. Abdul Somad even claimed himself as a preacher of million viewers. However, his sermons are mostly uploaded to the internet by his audiences. Abdul Somad does not rely on professional team to craft his sermons and post them online. This strategy of allowing his audience to create and share user generated contents is proven to highly successful. Not only that Abdul Somad is able to secure millions of viewers online, it also helps him to multiply the proliferation of his sermons with relatively no cost.
