Abstract

This study aims to improve students reading skills using interactive multimedia for the first grade of elementary school. This study is used classroom action research (CAR) by Kemmis & Taggart model design. The research participants were 18 first-grade students of elementary school. Data collection was used observation and performance assessments in the form of preliminary reading practice. The findings demonstrated that interactive media might help first-grade elementary school enhance their early reading abilities. The average value before being given action of 59.7%, which is an increase in early reading skills, can be noted. The average value before being given action was 59.7%, which is in the sufficient group; then climbed in the first cycle to 73.6 percent, which is in the good category; then increased again in the second cycle to 93.1 percent, which is in the very excellent category. As a result, this study may be considered a success because the success markers established in cycle II were satisfied.

Abstract

Teaching industrial chemical for students of vocational school in Indonesia is quite challenging due to the bulk materials in limited time. For Grade 10, the students should master the single and mixture substances into solutions. It means that they have to understand how to identify the acid and alkaline. In the laboratory, it is easy to recognize the acidity of a substance using litmus paper, pH meter or universal indicator. However, it would be tough if the students have to use natural indicator. By applying the classroom action research among students on grade 10 in one of vocational school in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, the current study attempts to increase the students’ competence in comprehending the use of natural indicator to measure the acidity. The discovery learning was chosen.

Abstract

In English as Foreign Language (EFL) countries, learners mostly gain their English knowledge in the classroom and in the limited time. Without strong intrinsic motivation of acquiring English, it would be hard for the learners to reach the language acquisition. Historically, second language acquisition was begun from the contrastive analysis in which the learners compare their first and the second language. Though the study is quite old, however, it is still useful for the truly beginners especially in EFL context. The current conceptual study aims to view the contractive analysis applied in EFL classroom. The implementation of the contrastive analysis in Indonesia cannot be separated from the students’ characteristics, classroom environment, and length of input. The comparative analysis on the sentence types and the Subject – verb agreements underpinned the further analysis on the contrastive analysis between Bahasa and English.

Abstract

The current case study was to analyze the course credit conversion of MBKM experienced by 40 university students who join the student exchange and pre-teacher service. Through the individual interviews among the participants, the study found that there were several reasons why they join the MBKM programs. However, started from the piloting program of both MBKM, the credit conversion has still become the main problem not only among students, but also the university. The discussion was brought under the scope of the structure of the spreading of course unit throughout the semesters. The study suggests that the courses should be redesigned by placing the main course at the beginning of the course: semester one to three, and the last semester. Whereas, the semesters depicted to MBKM were on semester five to seven. It means that the converted course units were on semester five to seven as well.
