Abstract

Globally, there are various actors staging violence against civilians to foster fear and suspicion of others. People in many countries are convinced that terrorism represents the most significant threat to their daily lives. There are political movements that take advantage of tragedy and stage citizens against each other to gain greater support. It is important to remember that terrorism is not a new phenomenon. Many countries have suffered for decades from groups, both internal and external including both State and non-State actors, wielding violence against civilians as a political strategy. In many cases, the local population emerged stronger and more resilient, proving that brutality is no match in the long term for the progress of unity and shared values. Religion on the other hand is intended to mold character for a violent free world. Islam has been getting an extremely bad reputation across the world and Muslims have had to face some major hate because of it. People feel it is okay to blame the religion and its teachings and mar Islam's reputation. Hence, this paper studies the nexus between Islamic religion and terrorism in Nigeria and elucidates the impact of the Islamic religion on terrorism in relation to having a violence-free Nigeria. The scope of this paper however is a reconnoiter of the extent to which Islamic religion has been a causative factor or a panacea to terrorism in Nigeria and finds that Islam is a religion of peace but the Quran- which is the Islamic Sacred Book and rule of faith, has suffered major misunderstanding in the hands of ignorant extremists and fanatics distorting this view. This study adopts an evaluative method of research to arrive at its findings

Abstract

African and Africanists scholars formed the intellectual wing of African nationalism; which triumphed in the attainment of political independence of the former colonial possessions in the 1960s. In the course of the nationalist struggle, it was held out that African underdevelopment was coursed by the unequal economic relations between the colonies and the metropolitan countries. Walter Rodney in a brilliant analysis of the low economic situation of the continent held out the prospects of rapid economic advancement of the continent once this colonial hegemony - which came at the heels of the abolition of the over four hundred years of the trans-Atlantic slave trade - was laid to rest. Other scholars pointed out paths to political Stability which, it is generally accepted, is a sine qua non of economic development. Regrettably, almost sixty years on, the African continent is still enmeshed in the backwaters of world economic progress. The Rodney thesis no longer suffices as an explanation of African economic underdevelopment. More so when juxtaposed with some Asian countries which gained political independence contemporaneously with African states. This paper attempts to answer the question of where and why did African political elite get It wrong? By so doing deepen our understanding of the African economic crisis and proffer ways of meeting the challenges so posed.

Abstract

Trade and business have played a pivotal role in shaping the development of world’s economy and every home and individual is affected by it. The growth of every nation is largely controlled by its inherent capacity for smooth trade and business. Trade and Business contribute to the overall development of a nation by making a significant contribution in terms of tax revenues and providing lucrative employment. Thus, Trade and Business being such an important area of human concern cannot be given a free hand to govern and control the society. Business and trade are the potential forces of such a society endorsing peace and prosperity of every citizen provided they are properly steered. Therefore there is a need for a yardstick which would determine the worth and the depth of the business and trade policies. And, this yard-stick or standard by which we measure the reliability of the business and trade policies should be based on a solid philosophy. Due to the above, this research attempt to pinpoint the philosophy of Immanuel Kant, which I seek to unearth and recommend to the world of business and trade for the resolution of ethical conflicts.
