Abstract

Literature reflects the social ideology and criticizes the community that violates the Islamic ideology andmoral values. One of literature works is prophetic literature that discusses about daily life. Propheticliterature refers to literature that involves in human history. The development of prophetic literature withreligious pattern has many elements, including the human-God relation and inter-human relation.Prophetic literature also deals with reality, such as socio-cultural judgment and criticisms. The propheticliterature has three matters: ma'ruf (instructing to do the good things, humanization), nahi mungkar(preventing the evil things, liberation), and tukminu billah (having faith in the God, transcendental). Theresearchers used descriptive-qualitative research with Hermeneutics theory of Hans Georg-Gadamer tointerpret the Nabi Baru poetry compilation written by Triyanto Triwikromo, the definition of prophet, andprophetic or the features of a prophet as the ideal spiritual-individual. As the agent of change, propheticliterature has a motivation to return to the prophetic values and to guide the community in to the rightway. This matter needs three united materials to create unity. This research explains the representations ofhumanism, transcendental, and liberal values. The results showed that Nabi Baru poetry compilation bookby Triyanto Triwikromo contained values, such as humanism, liberal, and transcendental values.

Abstract

Abstract The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the pretest and posttest on learning English, the English for Communication course at the Vocational School of IPB University. The methodology used is a case study. This type of research is quantitative research. Data collection was carried out by conducting tests and interviews. The subjects of this research were students of the Digital Communication and Media Study Program at the Vocational School of IPB University, totaling 300 students. From the results of this study, it shows that there was an increase in the value of the pretest and posttest. The average pretest score is 61, while the average posttest score is 80. From this process, it is known that the pretest can be used as a learning control tool. Lecturers can see that the learning techniques used can increase students' understanding of English. In addition, from the interview process, it is known that the pretest and posttest can be used by lecturers to find out students who have weak abilities and students who have high abilities.

Abstract

The prevalence of English in recent years cannot be understated and this very sentiment rings true for almost every country worldwide. Among the various tools that are available for teaching, gamification tools of learning such as the application Kahoot! is seeing prominence in usage. Kahoot! promotes engagement and adds a fun factor in learning due to its interactive nature. Kahoot! also encourages competitiveness as it is a quiz-based application. A previous research found mentioned that Kahoot! decreases students’ confidence because of the competitiveness that stems from the quiz aspect of the application. The present study wishes to challenge the statement into test. The participants of this research are 36 first-year EFL students from a private university in Batam, Indonesia. The research conducted a correlational research design, providing quantitative data through the use of questionnaire and observation, which will be triangulated with a qualitative data gathered by the means of a guided interview. Spearman rule was used to analyse the correlation between the students’ ranking confidence and finding the correlation between both cycles. The study found that student’s confidence in learning vocabulary through the use of Kahoot! is initially positive and it grows with the passage of time.

Abstract

Learning English is very important especially for education and future, this is because English is one of the international languages ​​used. This case study aims to analyze the difficulties of learning English in grade 10 students at the vocational high school level. This research is mainly to find the students' difficulties in mastering English. This research was conducted at SMK Negeri Kebonagung involving 70 students as subjects. Researchers used a classical and individual approach in collecting data. The data was obtained using a google form which was distributed to 70 students of class x in various majors. The findings show that students' English learning difficulties are: (1) a sense of coercion; (2) mastery of basic concepts/low intake; (3) lack of self-confidence; (4) forgetting factor; (5) have little opportunity to practice. Referring to these findings, it is suggested to teachers and institutions to facilitate and provide high motivation for the students' English learning process.

Abstract

The development of information and communication technology is what most people look forward to, including technological advances in the field of education which are very useful for teachers and students. Teachers can apply the use of technology in learning English to help and facilitate teaching and learning activities and encourage students to actively participate in learning. This study aims to explain the importance of applying technology in teaching English. The method used in this research is qualitative through a literature study approach. Data was obtained through collecting references and materials related to the use of ICT in learning and teaching English. After the data is obtained, the data is presented based on predetermined boundaries. The results of the study show that the use of technology in teaching English can make the learning atmosphere more enjoyable, students can freely get and do assignments and can access more learning resources. In addition, by utilizing information and communication technology students become more creative and motivated to be actively involved in teaching and learning activities so that it is very necessary for English teachers to regularly integrate the use of communication and information technology in learning English.

Abstract

This research was conducted to determine the application of authentic assessment in the writing skills of students of class X MA Assalafiyyah Mlangi Sleman Yogyakarta. The scope of this research is divided into several points, namely: (1) what authentic assessment is applied by the teacher, (2) what obstacles in applying authentic assessment in English writing skills. The researcher used a qualitative descriptive method. Data collection techniques used are interviews, observation, and documentation. The researcher analyzed the data using analysis from Miles and Huberman which includes data reduction, data presentation and conclusions and verification. The results of the study, namely: the teacher applies an authentic assessment of students' writing skills through three aspects, affective aspects, cognitive aspects, and skills aspects. On the affective aspect: the teacher uses the technique of observation, self-assessment, peer-assessment and journals. The teacher prioritizes journal techniques in English writing skills. Cognitive aspects: written tests and assignments, both of these techniques are applied in class in writing skills lessons. Skills aspect: product assessment and portfolio assessment, teachers do not apply project assessment because they focus on other techniques. Overall, teachers know the application of authentic assessment to writing skills based on the 2013 curriculum, even though they apply authentic assessment to learning activities, such as: having limited time, limited knowledge of students in English.

Abstract

This research aims to identify the filtering or barriers experienced by students learning English. Mixed-method research using a case study approach with embedded type is employed in designing this study. An integrated questionnaire and interview entitled Filtering Experiences by High School Students were distributed in gaining the data. While the sample of this study was 50 students from two different high schools in Pongok Island, Southern Bangka, Indonesia. The findings of this study indicate that the average value obtained is 3.85 on a given scale of 5. It Indicates that most students do not have filtering in learning English in the classroom. From the interview, it was found that the students were fully aware that English is essential to learn. However, it was also found that the external factor that affected the low motivation of learning was the attitudes and ways of teaching by English teachers

Abstract

English can not only be acquired through formal education, but also can be obtained from non-formal education, especially from their family. Families have a responsibility in the education of their children. Parental guidance is needed to help student achievement to the fullest. This is because parents know their needs will provide supervision of students, support to students in learning. The statement of problem from this research are (1) How is the students’ English achievement of eighth grade at MtsN Aryojeding (2) How is parental guidance of eighth grade at MtsN Aryojeding (3) Is there any correlation between the students’ English achievement and the parental guidance of eighth grade at MtsN Aryojeding, the objectives of this research is know whether or not there is correlation between the students’ English achievement and parental guidance.The research using quantitative approach of which the data obtained from students’ final test and parental guidance questionnaire, then this test result was analyzed using Pearson Product Moment formula in SPSS 16.0 for windows version to find the correlation.The finding of coefficient correlation of research is 0.79, the level of correlation is “strong”. The researcher concluded that comparison that is used as a relationship with the right direction is done by the parents will provide an increase in the students’ English achievement.The students should be improved the learning achievement and students need to understand how effective learning in school and at home. The parents should be able to further enhance the learning guidance to their children through encouragement and constructive guidance, complementary facilities and infrastructure. And it is suggested that the study will be useful for the future researcher as the reference to make a further research especially about students’ English achievement and parental guidance

Abstract

This research was conducted to desribe student’s academic dishonesty in examination process. The researcher used a Sequential Explanatory mixed method, a method that combines both quantitative and qualitative methods with descriptive research. Techniques in data collection is questionnaire and interview. The result showed that the popular forms of academic dishonesty among the students were cheating on their friend without his or her knowledge, carrying crib notes, allow their friend to copy answer sheet, collaborate with friends and etcetera. Based on the results of the study it can be concluded that students’ do academic dishonesty in examination process.

Abstract

Technology integration in education has been a topic of interest for many years. Among those technologies, chatbots have been used in many educational settings. However, the impact of chatbots on students' engagement and critical thinking in different learning contexts has not been fully explored. This study aimed to investigate the impact of chatbots in different learning contexts on student engagement and critical thinking. A literature review was conducted to examine the previous studies on using chatbots in different learning contexts and relevant theoretical frameworks on student engagement and critical thinking in online and blended learning contexts. This study's results revealed that chatbots could improve students' engagement in different learning contexts and support the development of critical thinking skills. However, the design and features of chatbots should be aligned with the learning context to achieve optimal results. This study fills a gap in the literature by providing insight into how chatbot-mediated instruction may vary in different learning contexts and its possible impact on student engagement and critical thinking. The findings of this study have implications for chatbot design and instruction in different learning contexts, and it could be considered a valuable reference for educators, instructional designers, and researchers.
