Abstract

Textbook has significant roles in the teaching-learning process. A lot of teaching-learning processes throughout the world are conducted with extensive textbooks usage. It occurs because textbooks hold several roles for teaching-learning activity. On the other hand, a theory named Multiple Intelligence Theory (MI Theory) considers that human is born with a fixed amount of intelligence. By applying MI Theory to the English language teaching, the teaching-learning process is expected to accommodate and stimulate students’ intelligence types well, so the students learning output will increase. The objective of the research was to figure out the representation of Multiple Intelligences in the Junior High School English textbooks in Indonesia published by the Ministry of Education and Culture. This research was a content analysis since it was aimed to investigate Multiple Intelligences implementation in the activities of the textbooks. The instrument of this research was a checklist devised by the researchers based on the theoretical and conceptual framework of MI Theory as well as other checklists had made by previous researchers. A careful analysis of the activities resulted that the textbooks mostly catering to verbal/linguistic, interpersonal, musical, and visual/spatial intelligence. The least dominant intelligences were bodily/kinaesthetic, logical/mathematical, intrapersonal, and naturalist intelligence.

Abstract

Online learning in the descriptive text is a challenge for the teacher and student. However, learning activities should be held to make students’ understanding of material well even the condition always different and need new adaptation. In reality, the learning model influences students’ ability, particularly in the learning of descriptive text. The research aims to analyze students’ cases based on the source of the problem in writing descriptive text. This research includes qualitative research, particularly case study research. The analysis uses Spradley Analysis which consists of domain analysis, taxonomy analysis, componential analysis, and theme cultural. In the domain, there are two domains such gender and distance between house and school. As a result of the research, students suffer high problems in four indicators. They consist of organization, grammar, mechanics, and word choice. In the gender category, female students have high cases. Besides, in the distance between school and house, the 6,1-10 KM students suffered the high problem. Further, it can conclude that students’ ability in writing descriptive text is low.

Abstract

Youtube application is a widely used social media platform that has reached its peak popularity nowadays.All people, young and old, are familiar to this. In this pandemic era, the use of this platform can beconsidered as one of the best alternatives for teaching English online due to its familiarity, effectiveness,and attractive features. It also offers various information needed not only for the teachers but for thestudents as well and it can be utilized as a two-way communication for teaching and learning process too.This application also provides authentic learning materials for the learners. Based on this consideration,this paper will review some of the virtues and challenges we can find by employing Youtube applicationfor our emergency remote learning during this Covid 19 outbreak. It is expected that this discussion willbe able to give alternatives for improving our teaching and learning process quality during this difficulttime.

Abstract

There are so many American films that use LGBT as the theme now in mainstream media such asNetflix, HBO, and Amazon Premium. Some of those films have been streamed in Indonesia.However, there might be some problems regarding the translated subtitle because Indonesiadoesn’t have as many gendered-languages as America. The aims of this research are to identifythe translation techniques and translation quality of microaggression expressions in Boys Don’tCry movie subtitle. This research uses descriptive qualitative method. This qualitative descriptiveresearch is an embedded-cased study and a product-oriented of translation research. The sourcedata of the research are microaggression expressions directed toward LGBT in Boys Don’t Cry.The data are collected through document analysist and FGD (Focus Group Discussion). Theresults of this research reveal that the translation techniques found in.

Abstract

Along with the development of science, learning English is very important for students to master orlearn. However, with the COVID-19 outbreak, learning activities are carried out at home using theGoogle Meet media. This study aims to determine students' perceptions and motivations towardsEnglish through google meet in class XI students of SMA Prestasi Prima for the academic year2020/2021. This type of research is descriptive qualitative data taken from 30 students of class XIIPA 1. Data collection techniques using observation, questionnaires, and interviews. Then theresearch instrument used field notes, questionnaire sheets, and cellphones, and the Whatsappapplication. Then analyze the data using data reduction data, display the data, and conclude. Theresults of this study are presented descriptively. Then this study found that the perception ofstudentslearning English through Google Meet was quite good. However, students experience obstacles inonline learning, such as difficulties understanding the material, network disturbances, and internetdata packages that run out quickly. While students' motivation to take part in online learning is quitegood, this can be seen from the way studentsthink they are still diligent in doing assignments andrepeating material that has not been understood. However, some students are not enthusiastic aboutlearning English through google meet. This can be seen from the attitude of students who are lazy tostudy because theyhave a lot of assignments and feel bored with the assignments given repeatedly

Abstract

This study aims to determine the emotional character of Go Moon Young, who is the main character in thedrama "It's okay to not be okay". This drama tells about a person named Go Moon Young, a character whohas an antisocial personality disorder and has a dark past that makes Go Moon Young have a bad temperand don't care about other people. Abandoned by his parents when he was young, Go Moon Young livedalone into adulthood and managed to become a famous children's story book writer. In this study,qualitative methods were used, statistical methods and other calculations did not give results, and theresearcher tried to understand the meaning of the events of the interaction of human behavior in certainsituations, and interpret your point of view. The result is a very emotional influence on the socialenvironment such as being shunned by the surrounding community, less sensitive to others, hurtingyourself and always feeling lonely.

Abstract

This research aims to know the students' understanding of English-speaking learning material during the pandemic era in the 8th grade of Junior High School 3 Ngadirojo. It is case study research that focused on the students' understanding of speaking learning material. The research used a descriptive qualitative approach. The research subject is students in the 8th grade of SMPN 3 Ngadirojo. The research was conducted from March-May 2021 in an online way. The data collecting techniques used in this research are tests and interviews. The research instruments used to collect the data are material sheets and cell phones. Techniques that are used to analyze data are data reduction, data display, and conclusion. The result showed that most of the students in the 8th grade of Junior High School 3 Ngadirojo can understand the speaking learning material well during online learning in the pandemic era. But not all students could understand the material caused by problems such as internet network connection, learning communication tools, teacher learning techniques, students' ability to understand the material, and other issues. Online learning is one of the most used learning strategies during the pandemic era, even though it could not reach the curriculum target.

Abstract

Writing is one type of skill that students must master. Based on the research of the researcher, this issue had not been investigated by others. The objectives of the research are to find out the dominant problem found in the writing ability indicators. In this research, the researcher used the qualitative descriptive method. The data collecting techniques used in this research are tests and interviews. Subjects of this research were 29 students of X TB 1 at SMKN 1 Pacitan. This research finding showed that the mean score of students' writing ability is 61.55. The researcher showed that the X TB 1 SMKN 1 Pacitan has a fairly good competence from their ability to write narrative texts in learning English. As a result of the test, there were 5 students (25%) who got score 70- 84 (Good to Average), 10 students (50%) got to score 55-69 (Fair to Poor), 5 students (25%) got to score 25-54 (Very Poor). Most of them cannot write the correct spelling, using punctuation and capital letters. Students cannot have good ideas, lack motivation, lack support from parents so that students do not have the determination to reach better grades. Students are not interested in writing narrative text. Based on the results, the researcher would like to suggest that teachers pay closer attention to improving the process of teaching writing English. Students are expected to be more active in participating in activities to improve their writing skills during and outside the classroom.

Abstract

The objectives of the research are to find students’ writing ability in online English learning. Themethod used in the research was a case study. The researcher used the quantitative. The data weregathered from this study through tests. The subjects of this research were students of XII MIPA 2 atSMA Negeri Tulakan, who were 20 students. This research finding showed that the mean score ofstudents’ writing ability is 70.85. Then the median of students’ writing score is 66. The modus ofstudents’ writing ability is 57 and 64.The standard deviation in SMA Negeri Tulakan is 75. From thefinding and data analysis, itcan be concluded that 12 from 20 students get the score of writing understandard deviation. Then eight from twenty students get the score up to standard deviation. Most ofthem have difficulties determining ideas or content, organization or coherence text, arranginglanguage use or grammar, word choice or vocabulary, and mechanics errors, including punctuation,capitalization, and spelling. There are some data or facts about students’ ability to construct theirs.Based on the English teacher interview’s result, teaching English online learning is not going well.Both the teachers and students must be able to adapt to online learning. Another obstacle of onlinelearning is some students don’t have a cellphone that supports the online learning media. Manystudents had difficulties, such as internet network constraints and limited quotas of internet data.Students are also less interactive in English online learning.

Abstract

This study aims to find out students' Interest in English Online Learning reviewed from Aspects ofInterest, Elements of Interest, and Indicators of Interest. This research wasa case study. The approachused in this research was a qualitative descriptive research approach. Participants of this study weregrade XI students of TKJ,1 consisting of 36 students and 1 English teacher at SMKN 1 Giritontro.The data of this research were obtained from observations, documentation, and interviews. Dataanalysis techniques used qualitative analysis, namely data collection, data reduction, presentation,conclusion drawing, and verification. The results of the data analysis showed that the results ofobservations made by researchers on online learning videos in grade XI TKJ 1, namely onAspect ofInterest, with an average percentage of 46%, had a range of values with a description of LessInterest. While Element of Interest got, an average percentage result of 53% had a range of valueswith a description of Interest. Lastly, the Indicator of Student Interest got a result of 51%. Apercentage of 51% had a range of values with a descriptionof Interest.
