Abstract

The determination of borax contains in wet noodles done by curcumin reagent as color regent which produced rosocyanin complexes and monitor by using UV-Vis spectrophotometry in maximum wave length at 545.95 nm. Before it was used in a sample which was taken from Ciputat market, this method was validated. The results showed that calibration curve in linear 6.25-50 µg/ml with regression equal y = 0.008 + 0.012x and correlation coefficient (r) = 0.9994. this method gave detection limit at 3.1132 µg/ml and qualification limit at 10.3775 µg/ml. The simulation recovery of wet nodles was 99.767 ± 1.114 %. The result of examination of wet noodles sample which was marketed in Ciputat market that four of five contained 3.76112 ± 0.0451, 108.592 ± 0.02185, 117.9461 ± 0.01455, and 6.275 ± 0.0221 borax.

Abstract

Beetle (Piper betle Linn) is a plant belonging to the Piperaceae that is often used in beetle chewing. Essential oil fractions of beetle leaves were given by steam and water distillation and fractionated based on time periods. The results showed that the fractional yields of F1, F2, F3 and F4 were 0.061%, 0.034%, 0.027% and 0.015%. respectively. Analysis of essential oils by GC-MS showed that 5 main chemical components were chavibetol, caryophyllene, patchouli alcohol, phenol,2-methoxy-4(1-prophenyl)-acetate and 4-allyl-1,2-diacetoxybenzene respectively. All of these main chemical constituents were proposed to be responsible for its antibacterial activity. The anti-bacterial activity of essential oils of beetle leaves was evaluated with a microdiluton method. The results showed all of essential oil fractions tested active against Staphylococcus epidermidis and Steptococcus mutant but not active to Bacillus subtilis. The MIC values of Staphylococcus epidermidis for all of essential oil fractions were 0.25%, while Steptococcus mutant was the most sensitive to fourth fraction by 0.25%. Inhibition mechanism their activity was indicated through microbial cell walls vandalism test after treatment 1 MIC and 2 MIC of the oils.

Abstract

Betel leaf is well known in Indonesia as a therapeutic herbal. Betel leaf extract contains phenol, euganol and chavicol which can inhibit the growth of bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus. Phenol can denature the cell protein of bacteria, euganol as bacteriostatic, and chavicol has a bactericidal effect five times more than other phenol derivatives. Red Betel leaf also has some good effect on our body. Research on the effect of red betel leaf is not as much as the effect of betel leaf extract. Because two kinds of piper leaf have some effect as antibacterial, so the purpose of this study is to know the comparison of the antibacterial potency of ethanol extract of red betel vine (Piper crocatum) and beter leaf extract toward the growth of Staphylococcus Aureus. This research use diffusion disk method and with concentration 250 mg/ml, 500mg/ml, 750mg/ml, and 1000mg/ml. The result from this research is that the effect of betel leaf extract at concentrations of 250mg/ml and 500mg/ml is lower than the effect of red betel leaf extract, but at high concentrations of 750mg/ml and 1000mg/ml the effect of betel leaf extract is higher than red betel leaf extract.

Abstract

Accidents are unexpected events and it is not expected that in the event there is no element of premeditation, even more so in the form of planning. Accidents can inhibit project development, material losses, lost time, disability which can reduce the quality of life for workers and even death. Based on PT. PP (Persero) Tiffani Apartment Project, Kemang, South Jakarta, evaluating accidents form in April- September 2010, obtained 22 cases of work accidents than 96 construction workers. Statistical test using Chi Square to see the relationship between two variables. That is the variable age, years of work units and long working hours associated with workplace accidents on construction workers. The results showed that construction workers who suffered work accidents as many as 21 people (35%) and construction workers who did not suffer work accidents as many as 39 people (65%). From the results of statistical tests, variables related to the accident were age (p value = 0.003), years of work (p value = 0.007) and longer working hours (p value = 0.000). To reduce the number of accidents that occur on construction workers by training the young-old construction workers and increase the frequency of occupational health and safety training, to supervise a higher priority to the construction workers who are younger than 29 years, providing adequate rest periods for construction workers who work more than the normal working hours, making the work shift, giving rewards and punishments to the construction workers,

Abstract

Chronic disease is a disease condition or health problem related to symptoms or disabilities who need long-term management. The results showed that there were 75 people from 54 (72.0%) patients with diabetes who controlled their blood sugar levels, while 21 (28.0%) patients with diabetes who were not their blood sugar levels under control. Thus, the proportion of patients with uncontrolled blood sugar levels is more than in patients who do not have blood sugar levels under control. In addition, based on data analysis using chi square analysis, correlation and logistic regression obtained results indicate that there is no relationship between knowledge, education, proximity and exposure to sources of information, food intake, physical activity of the patient, the patient's drug intake, as well as other complications of disease (P value = 0.622; 0.612; 0.743; 0.903; 0.564; 0.503; 0.649) with control of blood sugar levels. Based on these research results suggest the author's family to better provide support to members who have diabetes in the family to perform control of blood sugar levels. For health workers in order to further enhance socialization, counseling and services in the management of diabetes mellitus to patients' blood sugar levels can be controlled, so as to improve health status.
