Abstract

In today's world, Islamic education is facing a significant dilemma. On one hand, there is a need to modernize the concept and practice of Islamic education. On the other hand, it cannot afford to lag behind in the global competition, as it is an ongoing process. The current challenge lies in continuously improving the quality of Islamic education, especially in response to global developments. Failure to respond to global changes may lead to an ideological crisis that jeopardizes the identity of its citizens. Tauhid-oriented education is believed to be effective in addressing global phenomena and nurturing socially conscientious individuals. Moreover, as an education system, it is imperative for a nation to cultivate the character of its citizens while preserving the nation's values. The article proposes the four pillars as an alternative approach to revitalizing Indonesia, with a focus on human resource development, fostering good citizenship, and modernizing Islamic education.

In order to create peaceful world from economic aspect, maqashid syariah should ideally also has implications for—at least moslem—all mankind in their economic behavior, both in consumers and producers position. maqashid syariah is the reason for the existence of rules in Islamic teachings. Attaining maslahah and avoiding disobedience/disadvantageous for all mankind as universal value, should be placed as the point, so all aspect of human life should lead in achieving the desired benefit in maqashid syariah. Hence, Islamic economy also put maqashid syariah as refference, so it will be the first choice for people (not jus for moslem) to solve contemporary economic problems. Moslem scholars are in charge to apply maqashid syariah on their analysis related to economics and economy.

Abstract

The existence of different faiths in one country, where each offers life norms, prevents the use of one religion as the sole general source for reference. Therefore, it becomes a necessity to find one general concept incorporating all those religions. This calls for a concept of civil religion. It is a view that puts religion norms as merely having substantives function. In other words, it looks for a compromise held by all faiths to keep all parties respecting each other. This is the reason this article will discuss religious practices demonstrated by NU have shown to contain substantial elements of civil religion. This then will lead to the building of public ethics as a room for dialogue acting as substitute of religions.

Abstract

Problems arising from the relationship between Islam (dîn) and politics (siyâsah) became the polemics among Muslim political thinkers that have not been completely solved up until now. Hence, it is difficult to identify which countriy such as Turkey, Egypt, Sudan, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Algeria, and Indonesia, that deserves to be a representation of an Islamic state. The consequence of different understandings about the relationship between Islam and politics – in the case in Indonesia- is the emergence of Indonesian Islamic State (NII). This movement attracted a number of responses from Indonesian Muslim intellectuals. Using a sociohistorical-politics approach in discussing these responses as they do not agree about the establishment of the NII, will lead to an understanding of coercion and oppression of understanding group that is different from other groups.
