Abstract

Instagram accounts owned by cultural industry have been followed by millions of followers and are not limited to a group of people in a country because cyberspace creates unlimited communities. Cultural industries that use Instagram place halal (allowed in Islam) and syar'i (based on Islamic law) labels as important elements in promoting their commodities. The following article tries to look at the commodification of several posts on Instagram that are related to religious identity and the implications that are formed by the cultural industry in Muslim communities. The following qualitative research is analyzed by content analysis based on data collection - neographic studies - from several Instagram accounts, such as travel, fashion, and cosmetics agent acoounts which utilize Islamic attributes. The results of this study indicate that the cultural industry always introduces new trends of pop culture through Instagram by using religious attributes, such as using the terms halal, syar'i, or Muslim. Religion as an agency is widely used by the cultural industry in advertising its commodities. In addition, the agency is a tool to persuade consumers to buy commodities and at the same time it is able to identify consumers as pious and modern Muslims.

Abstract

Disability is a very complex issue and probably can influence various aspects in community life. Persons with disabilities are often hard to maintain the interaction between the limitation of individual function and the problems in their environment due to the negative attitude and stigma by discriminative people toward persons with disabilities. Besides, religion and normativity rules are very attentive and respect them (persons with disabilities). Inclusive education is effective and essential for persons with disabilities, but the modification of curriculum in class cannot meet their education rights relating to the social life as it should. The research method used is analytical descriptive in order to observe the possibility of hermeneutics towards the criticism of positivism as the dominant theme in research of social sciences, arts, and humanities. This paper relates to the disability social activities termed as social disability coming from the interpretation of Quran and social reality that then emerge the precious understanding and life experience for persons with disabilities so that it gives positive impact for students with disability, no disability, family, and large community.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the position of women in Islamic spiritual discourse. During this time, patriarchal culture places women in subordinate men in a variety of situations; politics, economics, culture, education and religion. This study criticizes the results of studies that narrate that women are second class. Through qualitative methods and descriptive analysis, this study relies on primary documents about traces of women in the labyrinth of Sufism. The results of the study indicate that the position of women is so central and a bridge to climb the title of Insan Kamil (perfect human). Many minor, nagging, and wrong views that view women has tempting, wild, bad instinct and as a barrier for the Sufis to reach the highest level. In the context of Sufism, women as seducers are God's elements that manifest on humans. As long as directed, she is the road to the perfection and the maqam of Insan Kamil. The world of Sufism understands women in the corridors of harmony and duality. Women are miniatures of nature. The famous Ibn ‘Arabi thesis says that God wants to be known so He creates nature. There is duality in it, Qahar, Luthf, Jamal and also Jalal. To the way of God, it cannot be separated from feminine and masculine aspects. Recognizing women is like recognizing God.

Abstract

This study questions the response of the Khawārij sect in interpreting the verses that speak of blasphemy. The study will focused on exploring the results of the Khawārij interpretation of the blasphemy verses in the Tafsīr Haimayan al-Zād Ilā Dār al-Ma’ād by Yusuf Wahbi, this book was chosen because it became a reference often used by the Khawārij sect to this contemporary period. For this reason, the author tries to use the Gadamer-style hermeneutic-subjectivist approach so that the ideological dimension in the interpretation can be properly embodied. The results of the study indicate that Khawārij tends to be textual and put forward their ideology in interpreting the verses of blasphemy. This is evidenced by the existence of a bid'ah instrument which is used as a benchmark to set a ban on sitting with the perpetrators such as the prohibition of sitting with people who deny and insult the Qur'an as in QS. Al-Nisa ': 140. In addition, the results of the interpretation of Khawārij have reduced the preventive principle contained in QS. Al-An'am 108 and their interpretation of QS. Al-Taubah: 12 has indirectly opened the opportunity for the creation of excessive arrogance against religious offenders.

Abstract

The global rashdul qibla commonly called istiwa' a'dzam occurs twice a year, 15/16 July and 27/28 May. On that date, the place that occurs during the day (illuminated by the Sun) can use the Sun's shadow to determine the direction of the qibla, because at that time the Sun is right above the Ka’ba. And for places where the night experiences (not illuminated by the sun), then you can use the rashdul qibla of the turning point of the Ka'ba, which is on January 13/14 and 28/29 November. In this study, the authors found the probability of rashdul qibla occurring four times a year somewhere. That is the combination of the rashdul qibla when the Sun is above the Ka’ba, and the rashdul qibla when the Sun is above the turning point of the Ka'ba. These places include Ambon, Namlea (Indonesia), Perth, Broome (Australia) and Tutuala (Timor Leste). Qibla rashdul July 15-16 and 27/28 May take place in the late evening, and qibla rashdul January 13-14 and 28/29 November occurs in the morning, after the sun rises.

This study also highlights a wide array of reasons for the urgency of fostering the children’s spiritual intelligence attempted by the lecturers. Firstly, this kind of intelligence constitutes the value and meaning of spirituality. Secondly, it represents the nature of faith (spirituality) for human beings. Lastly, spiritual intelligence reflects the meaning or core of the whole intelligence that plays a pivotal role in the basis for intelligence quotient (IQ) and emotional quotient (EQ). The internalization of spiritual intelligence in children can be fostered when they are in the womb until adulthood through habituation, good modeling, and consistency from their parents. Furthermore, the implications of spiritual intelligence for children cover their character, emotional, psychological, and physical development.

Abstract

This present study aims to explore the phenomenon of the Qur’an recitation by employing a ‘Kempekan’ model, which is transmitted at Pesantren (Islamic boarding school) Babakan. Kempekan is a style of tartil (a proper manner) recitation of the Qur’an promoted at Pesantren Kempek. A qualitative approach was designed in this ethnographic study. The data were collected through observation and interviews. The findings demonstrate two important points obtained from the living Qur’an of Kempekan. Firstly, the phenomenon of Kempekan which has emerged amid the pesantren not only to maintain the originality of the Qur’an recitation, but also to shape a new tradition of both its transmission and transformation patterns. It can be noticed from the development of the practice of today’s Qur’an recitation in Indonesia. Secondly, the surge of Kempekan has pervaded a plethora of cultural aspects occurring in Babakan. This can be evidenced from communities in the so-called Region III Cirebon, namely: Majalengka, Kuningan, Indramayu, and Cirebon, who attended the khatm al-Qur’an. The transmission and transformation of Kempekan raise the dialectical model of the Qur’an and its distinctive culture. The recitation of the Qur’an is not only limited to the rituals of ubuddiyah (religious merits), but also impacts on aspects of culture, economy, the structure of society, and a new model of piety.
