Abstract

Pigs have a very important role for the community that is as a source of animal protein, a source of income, savings and jobs. Pigs are susceptible to various diseases, including diseases that are caused by a parasite of Nematodes class, namely Ascaris suum. The purpose of this study was to determine the degree of real infections by parasitic load value, to determine the degree of infection alleged by TTGT value and to determine the fecundity of Ascaris suum in pigs Landrace in Kupang. The sample was 20 adult male Landrace pigs (finisher) were infected with Ascaris suum. The results showed a positive sample of 20 infected worm Ascaris suum by average number of male worm as much as 3 and the average number of female worm as much as 7 as well as the presence of the worm eggs in the stool with the average amount of 4,645 worm eggs as much by using the method of Mc Master. The results of counting the number of eggs per gram of feces (TTGT) showed 19 samples have TTGT number of> 2000 were categorized as heavy infestations, while one sample has a number TTGT <2000 were categorized as moderate infestation.. The results of the calculation of worm Ascaris suum fecundity showed the highest and lowest values of fecundity, that is each 962,666.66 eggs/adult female worm/day and 180.819 eggs/adults female worm/day.. In conclusion, the fecundity of Ascaris suum in Kupang varied.

Abstract

Rabies has been a serious public health threat in Flores Island, Indonesia since it was introduced by Buton Island fisherman in 1997. The first case of canine rabies was officially confirmed in 1998 in Tanjung Bunga, East Flores regency. The virus spread to other regencies in the island, including Sikka regency. To control the disease, a routine vaccination program has been applied since 2000, however, this program has not yet been successful in eliminating canine rabies from Flores. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of canine rabies vaccination in Magepanda, Sikka. Total 32 dog’s serum samples with age range around 6-12 months were collected in the 14th day post rabies vaccination. Then, those serum samples were examined using ELISA test to measure its antibody titer. The test showed that 78,125% of the samples presented protective antibody titers. Chi-square analysis results show that, no significant relationship between age and the dog with the results of the rabies antibody titer (ELISA) in District Magepanda Sikka, it is probably caused by the uneven distribution of the dog's life.

Abstract

Bali cattle is one of the native cattle in Indonesia. High fertility and are capabled to adapt well in tropical environment is one of the superiority of bali cattle. Bali cattle farming in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) are generally managed by intensive, semi-intensive and extensive system traditionaly, without any recording and lacking good breeding practices. The purpose of this research is to determine the reproduction performance of bali cattle on semi-intensive management system based on pregnancy rate, days open and calving interval. The number of cattles used in this study were 40 cows on age 4-7 years. The methods used were interviews and rectal palpation to know the reproductive status of livestock. Descriptive analysis was used in this research. The results showed that the pregnancy rate was 45%, days open was 112,5 days and calving interval was 13,075 months. This study indicated a decreased reproductive efficiency of bali cattle in Kupang Regency, hence an improvement of the management reproduction is required to achieve good reproductive management.

Abstract

Anthrax is an acute infectious disease caused by the bacterium Bacilus anthracis. This disease can attack domestic and wild animals, especially herbivorous animals, such as cattle, sheep, goats, sheep and can also attack humans. One of the preventive measures that can be taken is vaccination. In general, anthrax vaccination in livestock in Indonesia uses live spore vaccines, which contain B. anthracis 34F2 strain which is toxic, and is not encapsulated. Anthrax vaccination in goats and sheep can cause anaphylactic shock effects because it can still produce toxins. The incidence of anaphylactic shock in goats and sheep can be prevented by modifying the vaccination dose, namely the preinoculation dose. This study was conducted to determine whether there was a difference in the antibody titer value and the total plasma protein of sheep who received variations in the vaccination dose. There were 12 sheep that were divided into three groups, namely the control group, sheep that received the full dose of vaccination (0.5 cc) and sheep that received the preinoculation dose. Measurement of antibody titers was carried out using the indirect ELISA method and measurement of total plasma protein using a refractometer. The results of the analysis of variance (ANOVA) showed that there was no significant difference (P> 0.05) of the variation in the vaccination dose on antibody titer and total plasma protein. In general, the paired t test results did not show any difference in antibody titer values at each sampling time. The antibody titer was negative until the 12th week after vaccination. The highest antibody titer value in the sheep group with the full dose was seen at week 12, while the highest titer in the sheep group with the preinoculated dose was seen at week 10

Abstract

Asian Palm Civet (Paradoxurus hermaphroditus) is one of Indonesian faunas. The brain is the most vital organ for living organism because it is a central coordination of the various activities, internal mechanisms and coordinating all body activities related to the stimulation of the surrounding environment. The purpose of this research was to observe the brain macroscopic representation of Asian palm civet. Three Asian palm civets were used in this study. Asian Palm Civet was anaesthetized and perfused then opened the skull to observe the brain macroscopic representation. The brain macroscopic representation showed that the Asian palm civet had 3 parts of brain the cerebrum, cerebellum and brain stem. Sulcus and gyrus in Asian palm civet are simpler than dogs. Paraflocculus lobes in the dog is more complicated compare to Asian palm civet that is found on the ventral and dorsal. Vermisin the Asian Palm civet resemblance to the vermis in dog. The continued development of the vermisin Asian palm civet and more developed than the fruit bat (Rousettus sp), in connection with the Asian palm civet life as nocturnal and live in tree.

Abstract

Some of the chemical compounds in bitter melon fruit that acts as infertility for males, namely saponins, tannins, alkaloids, flavonoids and triterpenoids were able to reduce the number of spermatogenic cells. Renal excretory function in carrying out this gets tough task, because almost 25% of all blood flow to the two kidneys. The amount of blood flow to the kidney causes renal exposure to the material circulating in the circulation system is quite high, so that the toxic material will easily cause damage to the kidney tissue. This study aimed to determine the effect of dose delivery infusion of local bitter melon fruit on the island of Timor, East Nusa Tenggara against renal histopathology description of male white rat (Rattus norvegicus). The study was conducted in the 2 treatment groups, namely (P1) bitter melon infusion at a dose of 1250 mg/kgBB/day and (P2) bitter melon infusion at a dose of 2500 mg/kgBB/day. Each treatment group consisted of 6 rats administered for 48 days. Microscopic changes that occur in the kidneys of mice include glomerular congestion, atrophy of the glomerulus, tubular hemorrhage, necrosis of the tubules are composed of cells piknosis, Karyorrhexis cells, karyolysis cells and tubular protein deposits. The average glomerular damage and kidney tubules was higher in treatment P2 than P1 which indicates the ravages caused by high dose bitter melon infusion given to the treatment group P1 and P2 so that the chemical substances to be excessive and toxic, accumulate in the kidneys and cause damage to the kidneys
