Abstract

The thinking skill teaching model which is based on metacognitive theory is a teaching method that requires students' skills in managing and controlling themselves to develop their thinking ability. The developed thinking skill model refers to four types of skills, namely problem-solving skills, decision-making skills, critical and creative thinking skills. The teaching model is developed to teach students’ thinking ability. This is a research and development study that adopts Borg & Gall (1989) steps consisting of four stages, namely (1) Collecting information (including literature review, observation of existing tools and creating research framework); (2) Designing (formulating research objectives, estimating funds and time required and research work procedures); (3) Developing initial product form (initial draft of product design); and (4) conducting initial field trials. Based on the result of the research, it is found that 1) the developed thinking skill model is the research that tries to develop a learning model to develop and improve students' thinking ability, 2) the theoretical foundation of the development of this thinking skill model is metacognitive theory, 3) the product validation result generated, in the form of modules and assessment instruments, is in valid category, because the products produced is in line with the theoretical basis used, 4) based on the practicality of the product, in the form of modules and valuation instruments, it was found that it is in the practical category, meaning that the resulted product is applicable in teaching students’ thinking capability.

Abstract

Questioning is a form of communication that supports learning. Questions asked during learning process can be used to evaluate students’ understanding on certain concepts. Through questioning, an educator can direct students to think and get involved in learning activities. However, asking good questions for cognitive functions is difficult. Low response from students discourages the educator to either ask or give more questions during the teaching and learning process. In this writing, types of questions, functions of questions, aims of questions, and questioning techniques are discussed. This article further provides sample questions in learning science.

Abstract

This study is to describe the application of consistency principles in developing lesson plans of teaching English for young learners designed by student-teachers. The design of this research is descriptive quantitative. The instrument in this study is a checking guide sheet. The lesson plans, as data, were analyzed by comparing the consistency  principles of developing  lesson plan of teaching English for  children with each document. Based on the analysis, there were 23 documents (38%) applying most of the principle of consistency within the development of the syllabus and only 1 document (2%) which does not apply any of the principles. In detail, 25 documents (42%) partially applied the principle of linkage and integration and no document (0%)  which did not apply any of these principles. Then, 28 documents (47%) applied all of the principles of learning foreign languages for children and no document (0%) that did not apply any of the principle. Almost all documents (92% - 93%) implemented each principle of helping students’ development and practice language through collaboration, integrate language and content, and validate and integrating that learning with the learners’ language and culture. Next, most of documents (68% - 78%) applied the principles of providing an active and fun role in the learning experience, using multidimensional and thematic learning activities, validating and integrating the learning with language and culture of learners, and providing clear objectives and feedback on the language usage. Abstract

There have been five characteristics of a qualified school such as focusing on the customer, total engagement, measurement, commitment, and continuous improvement. Every educational institution including Islamic boarding school (IBS) is required to provide the best services to its customers. In this way, IBS need to be supported by a good management system; the existence of a regular mindset (administrative thinking), the implementation of regular activities (administrative behavior), attitude to the task activities well (administrative attitude), and so forth. To answer the various problems that exist in the educational environment the management should have an Integrated or Total Quality Management (TQM). One of its goals is to transform a school institution into a sincere team, without conflict and internal competition to achieve a single goal of satisfying all customers. TQM will provide educators professional solutions to meet today’s challenges and the future. It is because TQM can be used to build alliance between education, business and government. TQM can also shape the community responsive to the changing demands of society in this era of globalization. Besides, TQM form a responsive school and is able to respond to changes that occur in the field of education in order to give satisfaction to stakeholder.

Abstract

SMPN 3 Lengayang has applied STAD as a type of cooperative learning to improve students’ passiveness. The learning is initiated by forming study groups and assigning tasks to be discussed together. However, in fact the learning is not effective that the students still can not understand the materials properly. It is noticable that the tasks given have been done by one student only, meanwhile the others are less serious and rely on those who are willing to do the group work. This is a field reasearch which describes the implementation of STAD in teaching PAI qualitatively. Data collection techniques used are in the form of observation, interviews, and documentation. As the result; 1) the planning of STAD strategy in teaching PAI at SMPN 3 Lengayang does not yet fulfill the requirement such as in organizing teaching materials (systematic/systematic demands with unsuitable time allocation), and detail of learning scenario (strategy step / method at each stage not clearly illustrated). 2) the implementation of STAD type in teaching PAI at SMPN 3 Lengayang is not fully implemented from the six STAD type cooperative learning steps, namely on teamwork and quiz, and 3) the evaluation in STAD type co-operative learning at SMPN 3 Lengayang is a written test or in the form of quiz. In addition, a test through a special quiz for individual assessment while group assessment is taken from group work. Especially the group with the highest score is given an additional mark.

Abstract

This study aims at developing mobile learning-based interactive media in programming language I subject. This research uses the ADDIE model, in which the proposed instructional media are tested to students of Informatics Management study program at STAIN Batusangkar, particularly in Programming Language course I. Data collection was done by distributing the questionnaires. At first, the need analysis was conducted by observing the related phenomena and previous research. Next, after the designing stage, the product was validated by three experts. As the result, the product, in terms of content, was 81,05 categorised very valid, besides in terms of design, it was valid with 85,6 score. In terms of practicality, the product was applied to the students. The result shows that the product was practical to use in Progamming Language course I. In order to find out its effectivity, the product was tested twice, before and after treatment. The mean score of post-test result was higher t “test” 0,001<0,05 than that of the pre-rest. Based on data analysis both design validation by experts and test results of the students, then the interactive online learning media is recommended to be developed for STAIN Batusangkar students.

Abstract

In the world of education, a delivery of stories is one of the effective strategies to deliver educational materials to children or learners. As the matter of facts, sometimes the stories told to the children or learners are taken from untruthful sources or fairy tales that will cause a delusion in the child's mind. It is important for parents or educators to convey valued stories coming from the teachings of Islamic values, such as the stories of the previous people delivered by the Prophet Mohammad through his traditions. The purpose of this study is to examine the editorial accounts of the story of the prophet Abraham and Sarah with the zholim King, and to know the understanding of the hadith and the educational analysis associated with this hadith. To obtain the information on the hadith about the story, the researcher uses a takhrîj hadith method, in as much as, it was found there are various relevant hadiths of the Prophet Muhammad related to the story. These hadiths have been analyzed for their historical qualities and linked them with Islamic education materials.
