Abstract

The purpose of this qualitative study was to determine the implementation of sociology learning at home during the COVID-19 pandemic at Sudirman Private High School Kupang and its inhibiting factors. The data of the study were obtained from the principal, parents, students and teachers, through structured interviews, observation, and documentation. The data were analyzed through data reduction, data display, and conclusions. The study showed that first, the implementation of learning at home or online was quite well, using Zoom, Google Classroom, and WhatsApp, depending on the internet network where the learning takes place. Second, the inhibiting factors found were the students do not have cellphones and laptops, and the limited internet quota.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to know the challenges of youth’s character education in the globalization era, and the factors that influenced the youth’s character education crisis in Mataru Barat Village, Mataru District, Alor Regency. The data of the study were collected through some techniques; they were observation, interviews, and documentation. The subjects of this study were teenagers, parents, and the village head. The data were analyzed through data reduction, data display and conclusions. The study showed that first, there was some negative character education on teenagers; they were unmanageable, and disobey parents, government regulations, and norms in the society. Second, the factors that influence youths’ character education were family factors: lack of attention from parents, environmental factors: lack of association with educated peers and media factors: youths spend more time on gadgets. Thus, the challenges of the globalization era were greatly influenced by the youths’ character in the West Mataru Village, which was negative social symptoms.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the factors that cause children to drop out of school, and the efforts of parents to overcome dropout students in Oinlasi Village, South Mollo District, South Central Timor Regency. This study used the qualitative research method with a purposive sampling technique. The subject of this study were dropout students, parents, and the head of the village. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation, interviews, and documentation. The data analysis technique used interactive analysis, namely data reduction, data display, and data verification. The results showed that the factors that cause children dropout of school were parents’ low economic background, children’s lack of interest to get an education, peer factors, the distance from school. The efforts of parents to overcome dropout students were motivating children, giving advice, and controlling children's activities.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to find out how the integration of the local wisdom values of the Duakoran community in sociology learning at Raimanuk High School. The research method used was qualitative. The research subjects using the purposive sampling techniques consisted of the principal of SMAN Raimanuk, sociology subject teachers, and students of SMAN Raimanuk. Research data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, field notes, and document analysis. The research data were analyzed using qualitative analysis techniques moving in a circle between data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and data verification. This research shows that integrating local wisdom values into learning activities means integrating, incorporating, and applying values that are believed to be good and correct in order to form, develop, and foster the character or personality of students according to national identity when learning activities take place. One of the values of local wisdom that is integrated into teaching materials is the learning process in the activities of the hase hawaka (greetings and greetings) tradition.

Abstract

This study focuses on teachers' roles and factors that impede teachers' role in classroom management at SMA Taman Siswa Kodi Bangedo in Southwest Sumba Regency to optimize sociology learning. The objectives of this study were to determine the teacher's role in classroom management to optimize sociology learning and the impediments factors in classroom management. The qualitative research method was employed in this study. To collect the data, the researcher used observation, interviews, and documentation. Besides, data reduction, data presentation, and data verification are the data analysis techniques. The study indicates that the teacher's role in classroom management was; as a learning designer, a learning manager, a motivator, a facilitator, a counsellor, and as a curriculum implementer. Theoretically, the teacher must master the class and its management as a whole so that the learning process can achieve its goals. Whereas the obstacle regarding the teacher's role not only comes from the teacher but also the students themselves, both from the family (parents) and school environment.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the adaptation strategy of limited face-to-face learning at SMA Negeri 5 Kupang and the factors that hindered the limited face-to-face learning strategy. This study used qualitative methods. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation, interviews, and documentation. The data analysis technique used interactive analysis which consists of stages of data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of this study indicate that the face-to-face learning adaptation strategy that was limited to the COVID-19 period at SMA Negeri 5 Kupang had been carried out quite well. It was proven (1) choosing the right learning method (the teacher was obsessed with using the appropriate method), (2) designing media learning (planning the use of learning media and evaluating learning), (3) making learning preparations (preparing teaching materials and materials, determining learning objectives, and preparing learning implementation plans). While the factors that hinder the limited face-to-face learning adaptation strategy were (1) the delivery of the material was not optimal. It was related to the limited duration of learning which was only three hours on average, (2) student learning motivation was decreasing, students learn and depend on assignments belonging to their friends, and less effort to study the material, and (3) the situation and conditions during the COVID-19 made communication and collaboration with students less extensive and limited in time where face-to-face meetings were limited under strict supervision.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the teacher's strategy in shaping the character of students, and inhibiting factors of the teacher's strategy in forming the character of students at SMA Muhammadiyah Kupang. This study used a qualitative method. The subjects of this study were teachers and students. The technique of data collection was done by means of observation, interviews, and documentation. The data analysis technique used data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The results of the research are the teacher's strategy in forming the character of students has been proven quite well; (a) understanding included the ability of teachers to design lessons, assess the process of learning outcomes and shape the character of students, (b) habituation included the habit of working on questions on time and teachers instil disciplined habits, (c) teachers set a good example, positive advice, and reprimand to form good character towards students. The inhibiting factors for the teacher's strategy in shaping the character of students at SMA Muhammadiyah Kupang are internal factors in the form of talents, interests, and character, while external factors in the form of family and environmental factors.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine and to describe the use of smartphones as an independent learning media fo High School Students in Manusak Village, Kupang Regency. The informants of this study consisted of students who used smartphones as a media for independent learning. Research data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The research data were analyzed using qualitative analysis techniques moving in a circle, namely data reduction, data display, and drawing conlusions. The study indicated that the benefits of smartphone as learning media for students were to increase students’ knowledge, as a source of entertainment for students who feel bored while studying. Besides, its impact on students were it can divert students’ thoughts and attention, lack of social interaction between students, student cheating oftem occurs in learning (copy and paste from internet).

Abstract

This study aims to determine the role of parents in fostering the morality of dropout adolescents, and the inhibiting factors of parents in fostering the morality of dropout adolescents in Fatukbot Village, South Atambua District, East Nusa Tenggara. This type of research uses qualitative methods. The subjects in this study were parents, children, religious leaders and village government. Data collection techniques in this study, namely through observation techniques, interviews, documentation and data analysis techniques used consisted of data reduction, data presentation and conclusions. This research found that the role of parents in fostering the morality of dropout adolescents has been running, but not optimal, so that many teenagers are worried that they do not know what is good and what is bad. The inhibiting factors that cause the role of parents to not run optimally are due to the educational background of the parents, the economic level of the parents, the type of work the parents do and the time available.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the social impact of teenagers dropping out of school, and (b) the factors that caused teenagers to drop out of school in Tunbes village, East Nusa Tenggara. This Research was the qualitative method. The subjects consisted of dropouts of teenagers, parents, and traditional leaders. Data collection techniques used in this study were observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis techniques used data reduction, data presentation, conclusion drawing, and verification. The results of this study indicate that the negative impact of dropping out of school is the loss of a future or ideals. It is difficult to find a job because it does not have a diploma certificate and lacks knowledge. They become a burden on the government in developing countries, and the positive impact is helping parents at home to fulfil financially. Meanwhile, the factors that cause teenagers to drop out of school are families with low economic income, children hanging out with peers who are no longer in school and a lack of interest in learning due to the long distance from home to school.
