PENSOS: Jurnal Penelitian dan Pengabdian Pendidikan Sosiologi dipublis oleh program studi pendidikan sosiologi, fakultas keguruan dan ilmu pendidikan, Universitas Muhammadiyah Kupang sebagai wadah untuk menumbuhkembangkan kreativitas dan pertukaran gagasan dari hasil-hasil penelitian dan pengabdian dari para mahasiswa, dosen, dan guru. Abstract

This study aimed to determine (1) the impact of early marriage on education, and (2) the factors caused early marriage in Lamea Village, Malacca District. This research employed a qualitative approach. The subjects of this study were 14 people consisting of 9 parents and 5 children who had early marriages. Data collection in this study were carried out by observation, interviews and documentation. Data were analyzed through data collection, data reduction, data presentation and conclusions. The results of this study indicate that early marriage has both positive and negative impacts. The positive impact of early marriage is to reduce the economic burden on parents. Meanwhile, the negative impact of early marriage is not being able to continue their education to a higher level, lack of confidence with their peers, and often experience disputes in their household. The causative factors of early marriage are economic cases in new families, low knowledge or education degrees, social environment, and promiscuity.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine multicultural-based education and efforts to strengthen the character values of students at SMA Negeri 5 Kupang. The approach taken was qualitative. The selection of research subjects used purposive sampling technique consisted of teachers and students. Research data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The research data were analyzed using source triangulation, technical triangulation, and time triangulation analysis techniques. This study shows several findings; (1) multicultural-based education is implemented by providing encouragement to students through group work so that students can automatically establish cooperative relationships and mutual respect among themselves, and also implemented through the attitudes and ethics of teachers so that students can imitate the good attitudes and ethics shown by teacher. Students are also taught to always respect and respect each other both between students and students, students with teachers and students with parents. (2) The efforts made in strengthening student character are to encourage students to always be honest, respect each other, be responsible for completing assignments given by the teacher, always show commendable attitudes such as always obeying school rules, respecting older people, and respecting fellow students without looking at ethnic, religious, national and racial differences.

Abstract

The study aimed to investigate the application of the direct instruction method in improving student ability to edit essay texts. Classroom Action Research was employed to get the data at Grade IX B, SMP Negeri 16 Kupang. The subject of this research was 30 students (15 male and 15 female). The research was carried out using two cycles which included the following steps: planning, action, observation, and reflection/analysis. Based on a study, the use of the Direct Learning Method can improve students' ability to find and correct spelling errors, word choice, sentence effectiveness, paragraph integration and discourse coherence. Based on observations in Cycle I and Cycle II, shows that the results obtained in Cycle I reached 40% learning completeness. Meanwhile, the results of Cycle II reached 80% of learning completeness.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the teacher’s role in shaping student personality, and the constraints of the teacher’s role in shaping student personality at SMA Muhammadiyah Kupang. This type of research is qualitative methods. The subjects in this study were teachers and students. The techniques used in collecting data in this study are through observation, interview, and documentation. The data analysis techniques used data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The results of this study indicate that the role of the teacher is as a teacher guide (finding, directing, motivating), as a role model for giving (attitude, speech, behaviour, mental, morals, good morals), the teacher has carried out its role but, in its implementation, it is less effective, so that the formation of the student’s behaviour has not been achieved. The obstacles teachers face in shaping student behaviour are the negative influence from various social media, lack of family attention, and bad friends associating with students, the teacher has tried but has not succeeded in implementing it.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine fishermen’s perceptions about the importance of children’s formal education, and the factors that influence fishermen’s perceptions. The data were collected by observation, interviews, and documentation. The subject of this study was parents and children who continue their education and those who are not. The study showed that there are still parents who think that education is not important. It is a waste of time, money, energy and thought. Education is considered a way to get a job, even though it can also be by helping parents to work. Besides, there are also some parents who think that education is very important for their children’s future. The factors that influence the fishermen’s perception are parental education, inadequate economics, environment and parent’s motivation.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to find out the application of the Learning Cycle 5E Learning Model at Grade XI IPS SMA Efata Soe. This type of research was Classroom Action Research (PTK) which was intended to improve classroom learning. The subject of this study was 23 students at Grade XI IPS SMA Efata Soe. This research was conducted in two cycles. In each cycle, there were 2 meetings, and an evaluation or test was held at the end of the meeting. Data collection techniques used observation sheets, interviews, tests, and documentation. The data analysis technique used qualitative and quantitative data analysis. This research shows that there was an increase in student learning outcomes in learning sociology in Cycle II. Sociology learning outcomes at the Pre-Cycle meeting total scores of 1,560 with an average of 67.8 and Cycle 1 total scores of 1,640 with an average of 71.30 while Cycle II total scores of 1,910 with an average of 83.8. This study shows that the success criteria set by the researcher were 80% above the KKM 72, so this research was said to be successful because it has achieved success indicators.

Abstract

The study aims to review several articles from Google Scholar about the implementation of the learning stick method in sociology. The article criteria were published in 2015-2020. The study showed that the Talking Stick model does not only improve the students` stick outcomes, but it can also produce the students` abilities in critical thinking, communication skills, cooperative abilities, and problem-solving abilities. The students can exchange their ideas with friends, which makes the students more active in stick because they are in stick to provide information about the material being studied.

Abstract

This study aimed to find out the strategy of problem-solving conducted at SMA Negeri 5 Kupang. This research uses qualitative methods. The subjects in this study were students at SMA Negeri 5 Kupang. Data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis techniques used data reduction, data presentation, and conclusions. The results of this research show that the strategy for solving the problem of learning loss among students after the COVID-19 pandemic at SMA Negeri 5 is that teachers can use methods that can be applied without having to gather and have physical contact, such as inquiry methods, case studies, problem-solving, recitation, and so on. By interacting a lot, it is hoped that it can help strengthen students' communication skills and create emotional closeness between fellow students and the teacher.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to know how the utilize information technology as a learning medium. and to find out what obstacles teachers and students face when participating in learning during COVID-19. This research used qualitative methods. The subjects in this research were sociology teachers and students. This research data was collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The data analysis techniques used data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of this study show that the learning process during the COVID-19 pandemic at SMA Negeri 5 Kupang continues to run well because sociology teachers have made maximum use of technology. Currently, there is a lot of technological information that can be used as learning media that can help teachers and students during learning, such as WhatsApp, Zoom and Classroom which are used in learning. However, there are still several obstacles in the learning process, such as economic problems which make it difficult for students to buy cell phones and internet quotas, poor networks, supervision, and lack of understanding from students.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the reading culture among students in the final semester of the teaching and education faculty, at Muhammadiyah University of Kupang, and to determine the library's strategy for increasing reading interest among students in the final semester of the teaching and education faculty, Muhammadiyah University of Kupang. This study uses a qualitative method. The subjects in this research were final semester students of the teaching and education faculty, employees, and the head of the library. Collect data using observation, interviews, and documentation. Meanwhile, the data analysis process used is data reduction, data presentation and conclusions. The results of the research show that students' reading culture is improving, as seen from the number of reading sheets read, ranging from 10 to 40 pages per day and due to the need for information and knowledge which is used as a reference in preparing final assignments. Meanwhile, the library's strategy is to increase interest in reading, namely an adequate library, a book collection tailored to student needs and regular funds every year.
