Abstract

Abstract

The existence of the islands in Maluku is very vulnerable to the danger of a tsunami-generating earthquake, because of their location to faults or faults. The purpose of this study was to analyze the height and propagation time of the tsunami waves in coastal areas in Maluku such as Buru Island, Ambelau Island, Manipa Island, Kelang Island. One of the historical tsunami events in Maluku on January 28, 2004, with a magnitude 6.6 earthquake with a depth of 16.8 km, is a case study parameter for create a tsunami wave propagation model for the purposes of tsunami disaster mitigation in affected coastal areas. The tsunami propagation model in this study uses SitProS modeling to analyze the height and propagation of tsunami waves on the coasts of the islands in Maluku. The bathymetry data used was obtained from the ETOPO site, while the fault parameters were obtained from the BMKG site where the sizes of the strike, dip and slip angles were 194o, 84o and -136o respectively. The result of modeled tsunami height ranges from 0.09 – 0.3 meters with a propagation time up to 13 meters on Ambon Island. Buru Island is an area which close to the epicenter of the earthquake so the waves arrived in the 3rd minute with the maximum height until 0.3 meters.

Abstract

This study investigated the characteristics of stratification and vertical stability of southern waters of Tanimbar Islands Regency. CTD Data from World Ocean Database 2018 especially November 1995 to represent second transitional season were utilized in this study. The CTD data were processed using Ocean Data View. This study showed that vertically the temperature of the surface layer ranged between 29 to 30 oC and the thickness of surface mixed layer was found to be 44 m. The thermocline layer has temperature ranging between 12 to 28 oC and a maximum depth of 306 m. Below thermocline layer temperature reduced to reach less than 7 oC (depth > 500 m). On the halocline layer, a high saline water was found between 66 - 94 m depth and was located on the southern part between Barbar Islands and Tanimbar Islands. Water mass was found to be unstable in the mixing layer.

Abstract

The Deep chlorophyll maximum (DCM) in the Banda Sea during the second transitional season (October 2015) was relatively shallow (25 - 64 m) above the mixed layer and far from the base of the euphotic layer or compensation depth. Its presence was identical to the depth of nitraclin injected into the mixed layer as a result of upwelling generated by internal waves. The contribution of these waves to the increase in Banda Sea fertility calculated using ocean color data is 56.87%. This phenomenon is due to the shallow optical depth of the satellite (20-25 m) while high chlorophyll-a concentrations are below. DCM was also associated with the swimming layer of Madidihang (Thunnus albacares) (34 - 68 m) caught with longline gear during the same period.

Abstract

The Galala Poka (APG) sill is in the form of an underwater hill located in the narrow waters of the TAD and TAL transition zones. The morphology of APG is important to map because it influences the dynamics of water masses during the tidal period in the TAL and TAD Transitional areas, and can even explain the phenomena of cohesive sediment transport and deposition as well as tidal mixing phenomena that often occur around APG. This research aims to map the topographical profile of the APG seabed and calculate its spatial dimensions. The GIS-based mapping method is used to create an APG seabed topographic model using data compiled from sounding results, digital Navionic Sonar Chart data and digital shipping channel bathymetry data. The trapezoidal rule model is used to calculate the APG dimensions. APG seabed 2D and 3D spatial models mapped with ArcGIS 10.8 and Surfer 23.The results of the analysis found the APG boundaries at coordinates 128.19316 – 128.19829E and 3.66027 – 3.56659S and UTM coordinates 410399.1390 – 410969.1292 mT and 9594764.3000 – 9595384.3000 mU. The topography of APG is generally convex with a flat peak at the center. There are variations in the slope of the seabed, especially on the outer side of the APG. APG volume with a reference depth of 0m (LWS) 1,304,828.05 m3, surface area 151,954.65 m2. At a reference depth of 8m, the APG volume is 20,071.95 m3, the area is 94,887.23 m2. At a reference depth of 10m, the APG volume is 351,296.95 m3, and the surface area is 73,012.06 m2.

Abstract

This research was conducted to determine growth patterns and gonadal maturity levels, samples were taken randomly when the fishermen unloaded the fish from the boat. The results showed that skipjack tuna (Katsuwonus pelamis) obtained a growth coefficient (K) of 1.85 per year with an asymptotic length of 75.90 cm, t0 -0.06501 years with T max maximum age = 3/K+t0 of 1 .5 years and an Rn value of 0.169. After plugging the growth value into the von Bertalanffy equation for skipjack tuna caught in the Banda seas of Maluku Province, the equation Lt=75.90{1-e-0.14(t+0.06501)} for skipjack tuna caught in Banda Sea waters. Visually, the results of observations in the field showed that female skipjack tuna entered TKG II at body length 44-59 cm, gonad length was 17.4 cm and male skipjack tuna reached TKG II at body length 43-58 cm, gonad length was 16.5 cm. The results showed that entering TKG III visually at body length measures 50.5-73.5 with a gonad length of 20 cm for female skipjack tuna and male skipjack tuna for TKG III dominates with a body length size of 70.5-79.5 cm with a gonad length of 20 cm
