Abstract

The study investigated the effect of Entrepreneurial Orientation (EO) dimensions and performance: Market Orientation (MO) as a mediating role in the case of SMEs in Amhara Regional State of Ethiopia. A Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) was employed to analyze and test hypothesis. The result indicates that the direct effect of autonomy, innovativeness, Proactiveness & competitive aggressiveness dimensions of EO are significant. In addition, MO partially mediates autonomy, innovativeness, Proactiveness and competitive aggressiveness dimensions of EO and SMEs’ performance linkages. Therefore, with MO, EO dimensions will give superior SMEs’ performance.  However, risk taking has no significant effect on the SMEs performance as well as risk taking -performance relationship was not found to be mediated by MO. Thus, the higher SMEs are entrepreneurially oriented, the more they are willing to be market oriented that intern positively affects the performance of SMEs. The findings reveal owner/managers of SMEs needs to be more entrepreneurially oriented to create a well-built MO environment that enables them intensively competitive in the fast-changing market environment and to improve their performance. This study contributes to the almost wholly overlooked research about east African SMEs’ strategic orientation and performance linkages. Therefore, the study can provide an opportunity to expand the research on other sectors such as construction, agriculture, hotel & tourism and trade business enterprises.

Abstract

When compared to other African countries, Nigeria has one of the lowest tax to GDP ratios among the top ten largest countries in Africa. Hence, this study assessed the effect of tax collection efficiency on the level of tax revenue in Nigeria. The study is built theoretically on the cost-benefit theory of taxation. Secondary data was collected in this study over an eleven-year time period which range over 2011 to 2021. The data were processed analytically using the regression model to measure the effect of the independent variable which is tax cost of collection efficiency on the dependent variables which are direct cost and indirect taxes and moderated by accountability of the collecting agency. The outcome of the study shows the regression result of 74.3% and a calculated p-value of 0.002 which shows that tax collection cost efficiency have a high level of significance effect on direct tax revenue generation in Nigeria. It is concluded from the result that tax collection cost efficiency does have a significant effect on tax revenue generation in Nigeria. Based on the outcome of the study, it is advised that more prudent measures be set up so as to ensure improvement in the tax collection process in order to manage tax collection cost efficiently and improve tax revenue generation in Nigeria.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a learning media for the Android-based web programming course and evaluate the validity, practicality, and effectiveness of the learning media. The Research & Development (R&D) method was used with the Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, & Evaluation (ADDIE) model. The research subjects consisted of 39 students from the Computer Science and Informatics Education Program who took the web programming course in the odd semester of the 2022/2023 academic year. Data was collected through validation sheets, questionnaires, and test sheets. The results showed that the Android-based learning media product developed had high validity according to expert assessments, effective criteria that met high interpretation, and practicality based on the analysis of student responses to the learning media. Therefore, it can be concluded that the Android-based learning media for the web programming course is feasible to use with the categories of validity, practicality, and effectiveness in the learning process in the Computer Science and Informatics Education Program, Department of Computer Science and Informatics, Faculty of Engineering, Makassar State University, in the Web Programming course.

Abstract

The study investigated strategies for managing disruptive behaviours among public secondary school students in classrooms in Kogi East Education Zone. The purpose of the study was to find out the causative factors responsible for students’ classroom disruptive behaviours and strategies to be adopted by public secondary school teachers in the management of students’ classroom disruptive behaviours. Two research questions guided the study. A descriptive survey design was adopted. The population of the study consisted of 2434 teaching staff from 208 secondary schools in the Kogi East education zone. A sample of 400 teachers representing 16% was purposively selected for the study. The Disruptive Behaviour Management Questionnaire (DBMQ) was used as an instrument for data collection. Mean and standard deviation was used to answer the research questions that guided the study with a benchmark of 2.50 for acceptance and rejection. It was revealed from the analysis that (1) hereditary factors, visual disability, mental disability, excessive intelligent quotient in an individual student, exposure of students to the use of computers, television, radios, internet, mobile phones and frustration resulting from emotional to be the causative factors responsible for students’ classroom disruptive behaviours in Kogi East Education Zone. (2) Finding the cause, inducing the desirable behaviour, eliminating the undesired behaviour, systematic desensitization, ignoring strategy, dealing directly with persistent behaviours and monitoring techniques to be strategies for managing students’ disruptive behaviours in the classroom in Kogi East Education Zone. Some recommendations were also made.

Abstract

Nigeria struggles for a stable nation with a lot of security challenges bedeviling her development. Although, it is not an uncommon situation to other African countries, Nigeria insecurity situation has become a monster since 2015. Insecurity is a feeling of not been safe and living in a state of fear. The study investigates the effects of the contemporary Nigeria security challenges on her economy, using historical method which involves the systematic collection and analysis of secondary data scooped from articles, textbooks, and internet materials. The paper adopted the systems theory of David Easton (1966) to enable us to understand the components and dynamics of a system in order to interpret the problem of insecurity and develop intervention strategies. The study reveals that there is a link between insecurity and economic instability in Nigeria. It recommends a pro-active and coordinated approach in combating insecurity problem with a view to increasing economic stability of the country.
