Abstract

This research describes English Language Teaching (ELT) strategies and challenges in Islamic Boarding Schools. This research is library research. The analysis shows that teaching English needs a system or method during the implementation. Besides, teaching foreign languages, such as English, faces challenges/difficulties/problems during the implementation. Factors such as teacher education background, enthusiasm level, comprehension of the student's character, and norms applied at Islamic Boarding Schools determine which strategies English teachers implement. Even though teachers attempt to develop their teaching strategies innovatively, stagnant techniques are used to meet students' requirements. By understanding a student's character, teachers can select the most effective method for teaching English. Modern Islamic boarding schools combine traditional and modern systems to prepare students for the challenges of the times. English is used to explore and implement the richness and beauty of Islamic boarding schools' knowledge of knowledge objects and conditions related to this era. English Language Instruction is essential for Pesantren, and it must be well-planned and organized to achieve high-quality English teaching and learning. Foreign languages must be used as the language of everyday life in Islamic boarding schools. The most important details are the teacher's dedication, the students' awareness of learning English, the challenges teachers face in providing modern learning, and the lack of exposure to Arabic. Arabic and English are the priority languages to be taught, as they are essential for understanding the Qur'an, hadiths, and globalization.

Abstract

The significant impediments frequently hampering globalized EFL learners from continuing their reading learning enterprises are a higher sense of competitiveness among learning community members, satiation to read plenty of challenging reading texts, and constant perturbing of encountering adverse reading learning situations. These inevitable reading learning obstructions can be better mitigated with the continuous support of the jigsaw technique wherein EFL learners willingly, supportively, and collaboratively address insistent reading learning supports to achieve more gratifying reading learning outcomes as solid teammates. This current small-scale library study is a further attempt by the researcher to exhaustively investigate the influence and crucial role of the jigsaw technique in empowering worldwide EFL reading learning dynamics. To that end, the researchers utilized a thematic analysis approach in reviewing specifically attained research results derived from 20 jigsaw techniques in reading study techniques more trustworthy, robust, and representative findings. The 20 chosen journal articles ranged from 2018 until 2022 to ascertain the validity and reliability of the reviewed research results toward existing EFL reading learning contexts. The thematically categorized research results revealed that the jigsaw technique did not solely make EFL learners more proficient but also avid readers. Therefore, it is vitally essential for worldwide second language educators to commence their daily-based reading learning activities with the endorsement of the jigsaw technique. Abstract

In this case, the researcher wants to analyse three advertising posters for the Avon Catalog 2022 product “WHAT'S NEW” out of a total of singers representing dark-skinned women using semiotics. The dark-skinned women who became the object symbolized that the advertised product was suitable for all skin types. This study employs a qualitative approach with descriptive analysis. Therefore, this study aims to identify the signs (icon, index, symbol) and find out the meaning of messages contained in advertising posters through Peirce's theory. The results of this study indicate that there are 13 signs on 3 Avon advertising posters (Eye Love It, Luxury In The Shade of You, Winter-proof Your Skin). Besides that, the researcher also found the meaning of each symbol by using dark-skinned women, which shows that they can also positively impact the beauty world. It could be concluded that each advertisement had a different sign, and this distinct difference had given different interpretations. Abstract

Language and society have strong relations on each other in which they interfere on any aspect in a language. Social interaction can emerge large variety of languages because the speakers may produce new languages more and have more choices in using the language. This case can be referred to language varieties that occur within a social interaction. This study was aimed to analyze the language variations in Banjar Puaya communities. The research used a qualitative method with a case study to explain the phenomenon found in the field. The data analysis was done by observing and interviewing youth and adult communities of Banjar Puaya. The result found some classifications of language variations namely dialects, registers, mixtures of varieties, and secret language variations. The variation occurred based on the environment and situation and condition's influence. Therefore, it is possible that language can still be modified and developed since the society makes any variation in the use of language.

Abstract

This research analyses the Deixis in Maher Zein's song "For the Rest of My Life" to reveal the layers of meaning embedded within the lyrics. Deixis refers to language elements that indicate specific meaning within a given context. The study employs a descriptive qualitative methodology, focusing on the types of Deixis by Levinson used in the lyrics and the intended meaning conveyed through the song. The analysis identifies five types of Deixis: person, time, place, discourse, and social. The results show that the song predominantly utilizes person, place, and time deixis, emphasizing the singer's emotional connection and lifelong commitment. Additionally, discourse deixis fosters a direct relationship with the listener, while social Deixis underscores the singer's expressions of love and devotion towards specific individuals. In the cultural and religious context, the nuanced analysis reflects Islamic values of introspection, enduring commitment, interpersonal relationships, and love as a source of strength and unity.
