Abstract

Wates Train Station (Wates train station) and Wates Bus Station (Wates bus station) are two transportation nodes located in the Wates District moreover provide a wider area in the scale of the Kulon Progo Regency. These two transport nodes are near to each other and intersect within the radius of the TOD area. The presence of the Yogyakarta International Airport in Temon District was projected to increase the transportation intensity on Wates train station yet Wates bus station as the nodes of the current public transport service. This study was aimed to measure the Node - Place (N - P) index on both TOD areas. The Bertolini’s N - P model is a commonly used method on the measurement of TOD performance in terms of the transportation intensity towards land use (activity) intensity. The identifications were based on the TOD theory and the N - P indicators. Measurements were conducted through a weighted multi - criteria analysis. The analysis resulted in the same type of node - place index on both TOD areas, the “unbalanced node”. An unbalanced node indicates poor land use development regards a high transportation capability. Wates train station area has the index of node 0,72 and place 0,25 while the Wates bus station has the index of node 0,64 and place 0,16.

Abstract

Public open space has functioned as a development image and livability of a city. Malioboro is the most famous street in Yogyakarta with various activities and users. Malioboro street is a corridor that has been revitalized. One of the revitalization purposes is developing a public space that should accommodate all users with their activities. This research will be concentrated on the revitalization of Malioboro as a public space. Placemaking is used as an approach to find out the process of forming public space that has already formed at Malioboro street after the revitalization. So, the research aims to find out that process. The method is quantitative approach, which is a questionnaire to know the user's perception (merchant, tourism, and communities) of the placemaking. Aspects of placemaking are from Project of Public Space (PPS) with four variables: uses and activity, comfort and image, access and linkage, and sociability. Furthermore, the data will be analyzed to find out the placemaking process. The result of this research will be how far the process of the public space that occurred in the revitalized Malioboro street.

Abstract

The old alun-alun of Jepara is the center of city activity and also used to be the center of street vendors activity. Since 2019, the local government decided to move all the street vendors activity into new alun-alun where is one kilometres away from the previous location. The majority of street vendor stated that the new location is not as comfortable as the previous location. It becomes their reason for illegally returning to trade in the old alun-alun. This research aims to examine how far is the place attachment influence for trading based on the preference of street vendors. The exploration of place attachment was based on three variables, i.e. attachment of person, process, and place. Qualitative research method was conducted through literature review, interview, and field observation. The result shows there is no influence of person and process in street vendors place attachment in trading. Only the physical and social form of place indicates the significant influence in place attachment. The factors of access, space shape and size, amenities, and attractiveness activity contribute to the place attachment in trading that is not found yet in new alun-alun.

Abstract

The impact of the earthquake in Lombok Island not only had an impact on community settlements, but also on tourism activities. Especially in Sembalun District, East Lombok, the impact can kill the economy of the community, since tourism is one of the main livelihoods of the people. The process of tourism recovery in Sembalun District shows different progress. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to compare the tourism performance before and after an earthquake—which was analyzed using comparative descriptive method. Furthermore, the next goal is to describe the recovery process of tourism in the aftermath of an earthquake, and identify factors that influence the achievement of tourism recovery using descriptive analysis. Based on the results of each purpose, it shows that there are several differences in the tourism performance before and after the earthquake; either it has better performance after the earthquake or worse. The process of tourism recovery is carried out differently— depending on the damage level. Nonetheless, there are several tourism objects that have not been recovered, such as Bale Adat. There are 4 factors that affect tourism recovery after an earthquake; physical factors, economic factors, social factors, and unique cultural factors.

Abstract

The term of morphology is widely used to describe the physical form of urban areas based on the historical city. The Old City of Kalianget is a modern city that was built as the salt briquette factory area during the colonial period in 1899. This study aims to identify the characteristics of urban morphology in the old city of Kalianget. The deductive qualitative method is used from the beginning of identifying the area problems, field survey and data analysis. This study uses the urban design theory by Roger Trancik. The urban design theory identifies morphology through figure ground analysis, linkage theory, and place theory. The study shows the land was dominated by the factory area in 1947 and has been dominated by the residence and abandoned buildings nowdays. Moreover, the road structure is formed with a grid pattern with the intersections between roads and dominated by T-junction. The center of the old city of Kalianget is an open space in the middle of the area characterized by the plots building. It closes to the open spaces and the main road has the larger size than the next layer.

Abstract

The Lao government has a polity to promote natural, historical, and cultural tourism by encouraging infrastructure development such as airport construction, construction of transport routes that can connect in the whole country, and connect to neighboring countries in the north, central and southern. Base on the abundance of various tourism resources that are couture-history and, many communities have the potential to develop ecotourism through community participation, impressing tourists as well as creating great economic benefits to local people. The development would be focusing on infrastructure and facility development, trekking trail restoration, development and renovation of guest houses, toilet construction, service quality improvement, and media production in advertising. Three areas had developed as community-based ecotourism (Dong Natad protected area is one of them). Kayson Phomvihane city, which is the most populous city of the province located next to the Mekong River has a friendship bridge connecting to Thailand. The city has many popular attractions, includes the cultural and historical site included Inghang stupa, dinosaur museum, old French colonial buildings, and Wat Saiyaphoum (Saiyaphoum Temple); Natural site included: Dong Natad Provincial Protected Area, Nongtao lake, and Buengva lake. This thesis aims to make a guideline for the enhancement and development of ecotourism to lead to sustainable development in the local community. Moreover, the results of this thesis will be analyzed and informed by all stakeholders on the concept for the desired strategy.
