Abstract

The domain of warfare has traditionally been scrutinized through macro lenses such as geopolitics and military strategy, yet a comprehensive understanding requires delving into the individual dimension, which incorporates the insights from evolutionary, biological, and human nature perspectives. Despite considerable investigations into the origins and repercussions of war, the subtle yet critical influences exerted by individual-level determinants warrant further exploration. This research endeavors to unravel how inherent human traits—namely aggression, empathy, fear, and the quest for belonging—meld with our evolutionary and biological underpinnings to mold individual conduct in wartime scenarios. Grasping these elements is crucial to decipher the underlying reasons for individual engagement in war and the ensuing psychological ramifications, which bear significant relevance for crafting effective conflict resolution and recovery strategies. By anchoring this study within the Individual Level of Analysis of War and leveraging a qualitative methodology, specifically content analysis, this investigation meticulously reviews scholarly works, autobiographical narratives, and case studies to dissect the intricacies of individual experiences in war. Findings elucidate that personal-level variables critically inform combatant behavior and wartime experiences, where evolutionary and biological predispositions converge with sociocultural factors to influence wartime actions. Recommendations include embedding psychological support and conflict mediation training in military and post-conflict rehabilitation frameworks, aiming to modulate aggression and enhance empathic competencies

Abstract

This study aims to explore the phenomenon of begging in the social and economic context of Indonesia, focusing on the factors that influence the practice of begging, community responses, and solutions that can eradicate it. The research method used is qualitative with a descriptive approach, using data collection techniques through literature studies, observations, and in-depth interviews. Literature studies are used to gain a deep theoretical understanding of the phenomenon of begging, economic empowerment, and related religious values. Observations are conducted to observe direct interactions between beggars and the community, while in-depth interviews are conducted with relevant respondents such as beggars, religious figures, social activists, and policy experts. The results of the study indicate that the phenomenon of begging is influenced by complex factors such as low levels of education, minimal job opportunities, and community attitudes toward beggars. Community responses to beggars vary from empathy to ambivalence, with the perception that begging is not an effective long-term solution. In the context of religious values, the practice of begging is regulated within the framework of allowing begging in emergencies, but strongly encouraging independence and economic productivity through zakat, alms, and economic empowerment. The implication of this study is the need for an integrated approach from various sectors of society, including religion, social, and economic, in formulating more effective and sustainable policies to reduce the phenomenon of begging. Further research is suggested to expand the scope of the study, integrate cross-disciplinary approaches, and further evaluate economic empowerment programs that can change the paradigm of beggars towards a more independent and sufficient life

Abstract

Through the conduction of comparative and comprehensive analysis of relevant data, literature review, and empirical evidence, this paper aims to apply to decision making and reasoning, the fallacy occurs when someone overvalues a sure thing, even when the potential benefits of an alternative option are significantly higher and more probable. Conversely, the agency problem, arising from conflicts of interest between managers and shareholders, can influence dividend decisions in ways that prioritize managerial interests over shareholder value maximization. The findings highlight significant influences of both the "bird in the hand" fallacy and the agency problem on dividend policy. However, their implications and the strategies to mitigate their effects vary significantly. The "bird in the hand" fallacy, rooted in a preference for certainty, tends to lead investors to favour immediate dividends over potentially higher future gains from reinvestment which may not materialize. The methodology employed in this study includes a descriptive analysis research design. Literature review is to establish theoretical foundations and empirical analysis is to substantiate these theoretical keystones. By examining historical data, the study aims to provide insights into how these factors shape corporate dividend policies and investor behaviour. Ultimately, the research underscores the importance of balancing short-term dividend pay-outs with long-term growth opportunities. It suggests that effective dividend policy should consider both investor preferences for current income and the potential benefits of reinvestment in enhancing future shareholder value. By understanding these dynamics and implementing appropriate strategies, firms can navigate the complexities of dividend policy to achieve sustainable financial performance and shareholder satisfaction
