Abstract

Introduction: Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disorder characterized by high blood glucose levels because the body cannot release or use insulin adequately. Diabetes mellitus has become a health problem whose prevalence continues to increase in society. WHO estimates an increase in the number of people with diabetes mellitus in Indonesia from 8.4 million in 2000 to about 21.3 million in 2030. One of the natural remedies that can be used to lower blood sugar levels is cinnamon (Cinnamomum cassia). Purpose: This systematic review aims to find out the effectiveness of cinnamon use against blood sugar reduction in people with diabetes mellitus. Methods: Journals are derived from electronic databases such as Google Scholar, PubMed and Science Direct, published from 2017 to 2021. Keywords used: cinnamon, diabetes mellitus, and benefits. Discussion: Bioactive content in cinnamon, flavonoids, can lower blood sugar levels by affecting glucose and insulin function in the body. The action mechanism of cinnamon by increasing the sensitivity of insulin receptors includes activating 3-kinase P1 receptors and inhibiting tyrosinfosfatase, increasing the concentration of the fossilized IRS-1 substrate and its binding to 3-kinase PI, activating syntaseglyogen, stimulating glucose uptake, and activating kinase from insulin receptors. Conclusion: After a review of 7 journals, it can be concluded that the administration of cinnamon has the potential to lower blood sugar levels in patients with type-2 diabetes mellitus.

Abstract

Introduction: Lack of sun exposure due to lack of outdoor activities can lead to vitamin D deficiency. Vitamin D is an important regulator of calcium metabolism so its presence is very important for life and vitamin D deficiency is common throughout the world. Based on data from the International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF), more than 200 million women in the world suffer from osteoporosis, with the majority of women aged over 60 years. The purpose of this scoping review was to determine the relationship between vitamin D deficiency due to indoor activity and the occurrence of osteoporosis. This research was conducted using the scoping review method, which was a database search for several articles from international journals related to vitamin D deficiency, indoor activity and osteoporosis. The databases used in this study were Pubmed, Science Direct and Google Scholar there were 664 articles obtained. After screening the articles with inclusion and exclusion criteria, 16 articles were deemed relevant. Then, the researchers reviewed and analysed the articles for the review article. The conclusion from this scoping review is that vitamin D deficiency can be caused by a lack of sun exposure due to indoor activities which are a lifestyle and daily activities at work. Meanwhile, vitamin D deficiency can lead to an increased risk of osteoporosis through less than optimal bone and muscle function and increased bone turnover as a result of increased levels of parathyroid hormone (PTH).

Abstract

Introduction: Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a chronic disease that is sweeping the world. More than 300 million people in the world suffer from this disease and the number is increasing rapidly. Management and treatment of diabetes involves both pharmacological and non-pharmacological methods. One of the non pharmacological methods is acupressure. Purpose: to find out the benefits of acupressure therapy in health practice and it is hoped that this study can be an illustration of alternative therapies to overcome health problems such as type II diabetes mellitus. Methods: This systematic review was carried out in accordance with the PICO model. The database or database search in this literature review was carried out in April 2022. The database used was Google. A total of 5 articles were used as research samples that met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results: 4 out of 5 articles analyzed stated that acupressure was considered to help lower blood glucose levels. Meanwhile, in one article, it was stated that there was no significant difference between the mean glucose levels of the three groups before and after the intervention. Discussion: Self-acupressure at 4 points LIV 3, ST36 SP6 and KD 3 under controlled conditions can increase insulin levels. Acupressure therapy was carried out routinely at ST 36 points and Suzana's feet 3 times on the 6th day, 12th day and 18th day. Emphasis on points ST-36 and SP-6 can restore the balance of Yin and Yang and improve insulin secretory function in patients with non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus. Conclusion: Acupressure therapy can reduce blood glucose levels in type II DM patients. Acupressure therapy must be carried out according to the correct and regular procedure to avoid failure in acupressure therapy.

Abstract

Introduction: Prostate cancer is cancer that develops in the prostate gland of the male reproductive system. It is caused by prostate cells that begin to mutate and multiply out of control. Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men globally after lung cancer. Lycopene has been identified as an antioxidant substance that is potentially an anticancer substance. Lycopersicum is a carotenoid most commonly found in tomatoes (Solanum lycopersicum L.). However, some studies’ results for the relationship between lycopene in tomatoes (Solanum lycopersicum L.) with the risk of prostate cancer still show inconsistencies. Purpose: This study aims to find out and update the data related to the correlation between lycopene content in tomatoes and the risk of prostate cancer. Methods: This research method uses a systematic review method by searching research journals from PubMed, Google Scholar, and Science Direct database with inclusion criteria for analysis. Results: As a result, 6 out of 5 similar research journals for analyses related to the correlation between lycopene in tomatoes (Solanum lycopersicum L.) with a reduced risk of prostate cancer. Discussion: Prostate cancer patients have a low antioxidant content in their blood, thus increasing the stress of oxidation and lipid peroxidation. Reducing the risk of oxidation requires an intake of antioxidant substances that function as an anticancer substances, one of which is lycopene in tomatoes (Solanum lycopersicum L.). Lycopene serves as a free radical carcinogenesis substance and increases overall antioxidants, thereby reducing oxidative damage to lipids, proteins, and DNA. Although there are still inconsistencies in some studies related to the co-relationship of the two, this study concludes that there is a tendency to a correlation between lycopene in tomatoes (Solanum lycopersicum L.) with drop risk of prostate cancer. Conclusion: Thus, effective levels of lycopene in tomatoes (Solanum lycopersicum L.), which should be consumed at a certain time to lower the risk of prostate cancer are still unclear in number and more research is still needed related to this.

Abstract

Introduction: Hypertension is a non-communicable disease caused by genetics, stress, and lack of physical activity. So far, no effective drugs have been found to cure high blood pressure. Vernonia amygdalina contains substances that can lower blood pressure, namely flavonoids and potassium. Purpose: The systematic review aims to assess the potential of vernonia amygdalina in lowering blood pressure in hypertensive people. Methods: Articles are obtained from electronic databases such as PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar published from 2011 to 2021. Keywords used: ("African leaf" OR "bitter leaf" OR "vernonia amygdalina") AND (hypertension OR "high blood pressure ") NOT" low blood pressure ". Results: The results of the six selected articles indicate that vernonia amygdalina is able to lower blood pressure. This is proved in the hypotensive experiments of cats, suggesting that vernonia amygdalina can affect a significant drop in blood pressure in normotensive cats. Discussion: The flavonoid content of vernonia amygdalina can increase the biogibility of nitrous oxide (NO) and cause vasodilatation and endothelium vasodilation. Potassium may also cause vasorrhea to react through a membrane hyperpolarizing and thus encourage the closing of the calcium channel. Conclusion: It can be determined that vernonia amygdalina's consumption potentially lowers blood pressure in hypertensive people.
