Franconesia: The aim of this journal is to promote a principles-based approach to research on French language and literature by encouraging inquiry into the relationship between theoretical and practical studies. The journal welcomes contributions in the following areas of analysis: Didactics of French; Didactics of French literature; French / Francophone literature; French linguistics; French / Francophone culture; Translation Studies; Culture Studies. All articles will be reviewed by experts before accepted for publication. Each author is solely responsible for the content of published articles. Abstract

The teaching method is one important aspect of the language skills of french language teaching. The method affects many things, one of which is the concentration level of children's learning in class. Therefore, of course, it is important to choose a teaching method that suits student needs. Unfortunately, at this time, language teachers tend to equate language teaching methods with language teaching methods for adults so that students who are at the vulnerable age are children (6 to 10 years). This teaching method for them is boring and results in a loss of concentration in their learning after 30 minutes of learning activities. Apparently, this is due to their different learning interests. This interest in learning is caused by a different type of intelligence called The Multiple Intelligences. This type of intelligence includes Linguistic Intelligence, Logical- Mathematical Intelligence, Visual Intelligence, Spatial Intelligence, Musical Intelligence, Intrapersonal Intelligence, Interpersonal Intelligence and Naturalist Intelligence. The method used in teaching foreign languages, especially in french language, should cover various types of student intelligence so that they can produce french teaching methods that can maximize children's language skills. Regarding children's French language skills, the ability to emphasize here is speaking ability because at their age speaking ability is the dominant ability students use in communicating because they have not been able to carry out correspondence activities, therefore language teaching is focused on teaching speaking skills.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the types of les connecteurs argumentatifs in the debate entitled The Place of Islam in the Republic: Marine Le Pen facing Jean Messiha on the Touche Pas à Mon Poste Youtube Channel based on its use in the context of the statement in the debate. The types of les connecteurs argumentatifs are based on the theory of les connecteurs argumentatifs from Riegel (2009) which include; (1) opposition-concession, (2) explanation and justification, (3) complement, and (4) conclusion. This study uses a descriptive approach. The data analysis method used refers to the qualitative data analysis technique according to Miles and Huberman. Data analysis was carried out on statements in the debate that used les connecteurs argumentatifs and described the function of these conjunctions according to the context of the sentence. The results of this study indicate that there are 24 les connecteurs argumentatifs contained in the debate. From the 24 data found, 6 data were obtained for opposition-concession, 7 data for explanation and justification, 5 complementary data and 6 data for conclusions used by the speaker in statement. Based on the research that has been done, it can be said that the statement in the debate entitled The Place of Islam in the Republic: Marine Le Pen facing Jean Messiha on the Touche Pas à Mon Poste Youtube Channel contains les connecteurs argumentatifs.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to describe the use of persuasive strategies in L'Oréal Paris advertisements. The approach used is qualitative followed by descriptive exposure using content analysis method in identifying the data being studied. This study refers to Gorys Keraf’s and Pachocińska’s theory which is (1) argumentation with facts (l’argument avec des faits), (2) rhetorical questions (la question rhétorique), (3) imperative sentences (la phrase impérative), and (4) exclamative sentences (la phrase exclamative). Data collection techniques used documentation and note-taking & listening techniques and data analysis techniques using Miles and Hubermen techniques which were divided into three parts, namely data reduction, data presentation, and verification/conclusion. The results of this research indicate that there are forty (40) quotes that contain persuasive strategies. There are thirteen (13) advertising data for L’Oréal Paris products. Based on data analysis, all kinds of persuasive strategies were found in L’Oréal Paris advertisements. Arguments with facts (l'argument avec des faits) found seven (7) quotes with 17%, rhetorical questions (la question rhétorique) found five (5) quotes with 12%, imperative sentences (la phrase imperative) found eleven (11) quotes with 28%, and exclamative sentences (la phrase exclamative) found seventeen (17) quotes with 40%which is the dominant strategy found in L’Oréal Paris advertisements.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the forms of nationalism in the poem La Guerre by Louise Ackermann. This study uses the theory of forms of nationalism according to Taguieff, they are nationalisme ethnique (ethnique nationalism), nationalisme civique (civique nationalism) and nationalisme culturel (cultural nationalism) which are contained in his book entitled La Revanche du Nationalisme. This research method is a qualitative descriptive analysis with flow model of analysis according to Miles and Huberman which includes three components of analysis, there are data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions or verification which is carried out by flowing or interconnected and continuous with concurrent data collection process. The results of this study indicate that there are twenty-five (25) data in poetry that indicate forms of nationalism. In detail, there are twenty-four (24) quotations that have the form of nationalisme civique (civique nationalism), five (5) quotation that have the form of nationalisme culturel (cultural nationalism), and three (3) quotations that have the form of nationalisme ethnique (ethnic nationalism).

Abstract

This research aims to describe the elements of symbolism contained in the poem Apparition by Stéphane Mallarmé. In this research, there are four elements of symbolism referring to Wellek & Warren's the ory, namely image, metaphor, symbol, and myth. The research method used is content analysis using a qualitative structural approach to the work. Data analysis uses document analysis and refers to data analysis techniques with data sources, namely poetry with intrinsic elements in the analyzed poetry in the form of phonological elements and semantic elements. The results of this research indicate that there are 20 data in poetry that reflect the four elements of symbolism. Of the four elements of image symbolism, the dominant element is found in 14 lines, then the symbol element is found in 3 lines, the metaphor element is found in 2 lines, and the least found element is myth in 1 line.

Abstract

This research aims to explain the representation built by the author of Le Figaro news article in this discourse towards the Asian community in France with structures according to Teun Van Dijk. This descriptive qualitative research was conducted to find out and obtain the structures of critical discourse from the perspective of Teun A van Dijk in the online media Le Figaro with the study of critical discourse analysis. The data sources used are news articles published by Margaux d'Adhémar from Le Figaro online media in January 2020. The objects of this research are words, phrases, clauses, and sentences contained in the article. The data collection technique of this research comes from documentation study research. The data analysis technique used is van Dijk's critical discourse analysis study model which includes three structures, namely the text dimension, social cognition, and social context. If analysed in general, the news writer wants to convey a message about the social problems that befall some Asian communities in France after the emergence of the Covid-19 case in France. These problems are racist acts that occur to the Asian community in France. So that this incident is the background for the emergence of the anti-racism movement "Je Ne Suis Pas Un Virus". Through the discourse strategy model of Teun A van Dijk, this research found that the information in each sentence contained in the text is related to the next information sentence. This study also found that the text of this news article is one of the representations of the social conditions of the Asian community in France who experience racist acts.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan jenis-jenis konflik sosial yang terdapat dalam film BAC Nord karya Cédric Jimenez. Teori utama yang digunakan sebagai acuan adalah dua jenis konflik sosial menurut teori konflik sosial yang dikemukakan oleh Lewis Coser (2001 : 49) yang terdiri dari Realistic Conflict & Non-Realistic Conflict. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode analisis deskriptif kualitatif dengan menggunakan teknik pengumpulan data yaitu metode simak dan teknik catat yang mengacu pada teori yang dikemukakan oleh Mahsun (dalam Muhammad 2014: 217-218). Data yang terkumpul dianalisis dengan menggunakan teknik analisis data menurut Miles dan Hubermen (dalam Hardani 2020: 163-173) yaitu reduksi data (data reduction), penyajian data (data display), dan penarikan kesimpulan. Selanjutnya setelah data sudah terkumpul, dilakukan analisis dengan mengacu pada teori yang relevan. Dan yang terakhir hasil analisis data dipaparkan dan menarik kesimpulan dari hasil analisis tersebut. Hasil penelitian jenis konflik sosial menurut teori Lewis Coser yang ditemukan dalam film BAC Nord karya Cédric Jimenez ini, terdapat tiga puluh (30) data dalam bentuk dialog atau percakapan yang mengindikasikan adanya jenis-jenis konflik sosial. Secara rinci, dari tiga puluh (30) dialog tersebut didapatkan tiga belas (13) dialog yang menunjukkan adanya jenis konflik sosial Realistic Conflict. Selanjutnya, terdapat tujuh belas (17) dialog yang menunjukkan adanya jenis konflik sosial Non-Realistic Conflict.

Abstract

This research aims to describe the types of French cultural identity in the first part of Fary's stand up comedy show video entitled Hexagone. This research uses the main theory of Multiple Cultural Identity Types (CITs) which originates from the book Intercultural Communication: A Reader 14th Edition by Larry A. Samovar, Richard E. Porter, Edwin R. McDaniel, and Carolyn Sexton Roy (2014). There are six (6) types of cultural identities included in the Multiple Cultural Identity Types (CITs) theory, namely National and Ethnic Cultures, Sex and Gender, Profession, Geographic Area, Corporation, Physical Ability and Disability. This research uses a content analysis method which consists of three (3) stages, namely (1) Data collection by looking at words, phrases, and sentences from data sources, (2) Data classification by understanding the meaning as well as speeches from data sources and grouping words, phrases and sentences used as research data, (3) Data analysis by analyzing the data that has been found and making conclusions. The analysis technique in this research uses interactive model data analysis from Miles and Huberman with three (3) stages, namely (1) Data reduction by simplifying or narrowing data according to theory, (2) Data presentation using diagrams and narrative text on interpretation data, (3) Withdrawal of Conclusions/Verification by drawing conclusions based on the results of the research as well as answering the formulation of the problem. The results of this research indicate that there are thirty (30) speeches indicating types of French cultural identity in the first part of Fary's stand up comedy show video entitled Hexagone. The thirty (30) speeches are divided into eighteen (18) speeches on the cultural identity of the National and Ethnic Culture, seven (7) speeches on the cultural identity of the Geographic Area, two (2) speeches on the cultural identity Sex and Gender, two (2) speeches on the cultural identity of the Profession, one (1) speech on the cultural identity of the Corporation, and zero (0) speech on the cultural identity of the Physical Ability and Disability because the type of that cultural identity was not found in the data source.

Abstract

This study aims to find out the types of cooperative principle maxims according to Grice's theory which were used in an interview on the 8th of September 2021 edition of the television show "Quotidien". The main theory used in this research is the cooperative principle theory put forward by Grice, (1989). The research method used in this research is the “analisis isi”. The analysis activities carried out are collecting data by watching videos of data sources, classifying data based on the use of the maxims of the cooperative principle, and analyzing the use of the maxims of the cooperative principle based on the main theory. The results of the study show that there are 30 datas using Grice's cooperative maxims, where it is found the use of Grice's cooperative maxims. The uses found are the maxim of quality, maxim of quantity, and maxim of manner. The finding of the use of the maxim of cooperative principle is dominated by the use of the maxim of quality with a total of 14 speech events, the use of the maxim of quantity with a total of 8 speech events, then the use of the maxim of relevance with a total of 2 speech events. The use of Grice's maxim of cooperative principle that was not found was the use of the maxim of manner
