Abstract

Prodamas is a breakthrough program of the Kediri City Government in accelerating regional development through direct community participation (empowerment). Prodamas seeks to realize the ability and independence of the community in infrastructure development, community economic improvement, and social community. This research uses descriptive research with a qualitative approach which is limited by the research focus, namely (1) Implementation of the Community Empowerment Program (Prodamas) in Ngronggo Village, City District, Kediri City seen from Merilee S. Grindle's theory which contains policy content and implementation context; (2) Supporting and inhibiting factors for the implementation of Prodamas. The data analysis method uses the Interactive model according to Miles, Huberman, and Saldana (2014) with four stages, namely data collection, data condensation, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that the implementation of the Community Empowerment Program (Prodamas) in Ngronggo Village, City District, Kediri City based on policy content and implementation context is in accordance with the theory of Grindle (2017), it's just that the desired degree of change has not been measured, then the resources used need development and adjustment. Supporting factors for the Prodamas program come from human resources, teaching, budget, facilities and infrastructure, and academics. Meanwhile, the inhibiting factors come from bureaucratization which is still complicated, human resources, and the fact that the Prodamas program is still ineffective.

Abstract

This study aims to determine what factors influence underemployment in East Java Province. This study uses several variables such as age, education level, and training participation. The methods used are Linear Probability Model (LPM), Logit, and Probit. The focus of this research is how to reduce the probability of the workforce being trapped into underemployment. The results of this study indicate that the age factor has a positive and significant effect on underemployment where as age increases the probability of becoming underemployed also increases. Furthermore, the education factor shows negative results, the higher the level of education, the lower the probability of underemployment. Workers with an elementary school education level are most prone to being trapped into underemployment. Meanwhile, workers with university graduates have the lowest chance of becoming underemployed. The training participation factor shows that workers who attend training have a lower probability of becoming underemployed.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the issue of high poverty rates in the Province of Gorontalo, as well as the low value added in the agricultural sector, reflected by the sluggish growth of the agricultural sector and the prevalence of poverty among the population employed in this sector. The aim of this study is to investigate how the growth of the agricultural sector and other control variables influence poverty reduction in the Province of Gorontalo. The research employs panel data analysis using data encompassing all districts/cities in the Province of Gorontalo over a span of 12 years. Poverty plays the role of the dependent variable, while the growth of the agricultural sector serves as the independent variable along with other control variables, namely agricultural basis/non-basis region dummies, Human Development Index, Economic Realization, and Open Unemployment Rate. The results indicate that the dummy variables for agricultural basis and non-basis regions, Human Development Index, and Economic Realization have a significant negative impact on poverty. However, the variable of agricultural sector growth has an insignificant effect, and the open unemployment rate also has an insignificant influence on poverty.

Abstract

After the Covid-19 pandemic, internet usage has increased dramatically. However, the impact of internet accessibility on the job market is still a circle in academic circles. There are those who argue that internet accessibility can improve labor market performance by reducing information distortions and increasing workers' skills. However, there are also those who argue that internet accessibility can hamper labor market performance due to a skills bias, where workers who are less skilled with routine tasks tend to be left out in the digitalization era. Therefore, this study aims to evaluate the extent to which internet accessibility influences the labor market in Indonesia using the Fixed Effect Model (FEM) method and Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) data for 2010-2020. The results show that in general, the internet tends to improve the performance of the labor market in Indonesia with a positive effect on wage rates and the proportion of workers in the formal sector, and a negative effect on the Open Unemployment Rate (TPT). This study suggests that the internet can increase productivity and income as well as facilitate access to information on the labor market in Indonesia.

Abstract

The Municipal Minimum Wage Policy (UMK) aims to improve the welfare of workers/laborers and avoid the poverty trap. However, based on the theory of the “UMK” policy, it has a negative impact, it can increase unemployment and poverty. This study analyzes the influence of the UMK on TPT and poverty in West Java by considering the supporting variables, namely population, number of industries, investment. The type of data used is secondary which tested by using panel data regression analysis and processed with Stata 14.2. The results of the analysis show that the UMK has a positive effect on TPT, but the population, number of industries and investment have no effect on TPT. Then, the UMK has a negative effect on poverty, population has a positive effect on poverty, and the number of industries has a negative effect on poverty, while investment has no effect on poverty in West Java in 2017 – 2021.

Abstract

Exchange rate is a key part of a country’s economic stability. The US Federal Reserve has been aggressively hiked the federal fund rates (Fed Rate), which potentially affect Indonesia’s rupiah exchange rate. Hence, it is interesting to understand the effect of Fed Rate hikes alongside other exchange rate determinants, i.e., BI Rate, inflation, trade balance, and foreign exchange reserves on the value of Rupiah exchange rate. This study uses Vector Autoregression (VAR) method to analyze data between 2018 to 2023. In line with what has often been assumed, this study found that Fed Rate hikes contribute to depreciation the value of Rupiah. On the other hand, policy reinforcement to maintain other macroeconomic indicators, such as inflation, trade balance position, and foreign exchange reserves will support the value of rupiah. Thus, it is essential for the government and the central bank of Indonesia to continuously monitor global economic policies and give adequate and immediate response to maintain Rupiah value.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused the economic growth of East Java to contract. However, not all regions in East Java have experienced a deep contraction. This study aims to estimate the magnitude of the impact of COVID-19 on the regional economic growth of East Java and analyze the impact of COVID-19 on regional growth based on its economic base. This study utilizes the convergence model developed by Barro & Sala-i-Martin, and scatter plot analysis. The results indicate that COVID-19 has caused a contraction in the regional economic growth of East Java through a decrease in sectoral influence. The sector most affected is the mining sector. As a result, spatially, mining areas tend to experience severe contractions, while agricultural areas, which are known for their low prosperity, only experience mild contractions. This condition has contributed to a decrease in the coefficient of interregional inequality in East Java during the pandemic. Considering the importance of the industrial sector in accelerating the resilience of economic growth, an alternative development approach that can be pursued is through the development of agro-industries.
