Abstract

As a strong ally of the US, Turkey was subject to economic penalties in May 2018 for its continued imports of Iranian oil. Turkey delayed deciding whether to import Iranian oil despite this pressure. The purpose of this study is to examine Turkey's foreign policy about the importation of Iranian oil in 2018. The study uses a qualitative method with an explanatory analysis approach, drawing on the foreign policy theories of Morgan and Palmer, which highlight the objectives of proaction and security. The results show that Turkey's foreign policy goals are more proactive due to two major variables. First, Turkey and the United States do not work together well. Second, Turkey's proaction-oriented foreign policy is influenced by its capabilities, which include military might, alternative alliances, influence both regionally and internationally, and bargaining power. Turkey forms new alliances with Iran, China, and Russia, primarily concentrating on deepening its relationship with Russia. Furthermore, Turkey has a great deal of regional and global influence, as seen by its mediating role in the Syrian Israeli crisis in 2011. Turkey's foreign policy dynamics are further emphasized by its negotiating stance with the United States over the Incirlik zone. In conclusion, Turkey's strategic negotiating positions, alliance preferences, and regional and global capacities all influence its complex foreign policy strategy.

Abstract

Turkey was a closed country to immigrants. However, in 2013, Turkey modified its foreign policy to become an open country for immigration under the Law on Foreigners and International Protection. Even in 2019, Turkey is the country that receives the most refugees. The purpose of this research is to examine the impact of Turkish foreign policy changes on immigration. To analyze it, this study employs Blavoukos and Bourantonis' Foreign Policy Change Concept. This study uses a qualitative approach with an explanatory design. The data analysis technique used in this study begins with data reduction, followed by data presentation, findings, and verification. This study discovered that Turkish foreign policy changed as a result of Turkey's desire to join the European Union, the encouragement of President Abdullah Gul and Prime Minister Erdogan, and the shift in Turkish political culture to Neo-Ottomanism.

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to analyze the factors contributing to Indonesia's evolving stance during negotiations for issuing FLEGT Licenses, employing qualitative research techniques and a single case study approach. Stephen Woolcock's Economic Diplomacy Theory is utilized as the analytical framework. This paper argues that structural, domestic, and ideological factors influence Indonesia's policy adjustments in response to the FLEGT license mechanism. The study reveals issues such as an imbalanced relationship between Indonesia and the EU in FLEGT implementation, policy inconsistencies among Indonesian governmental bodies involved, and perceptual discrepancies among stakeholders engaged in the process. The findings suggest that, in Indonesia's case, Woolcock's theory factors interact, with the pivotal relationship between interest and institutional variables within the domestic decision-making process significantly impacting changes in Indonesia's stance on economic diplomacy practices

Abstract

The perception of advocates among the general populace often revolves around their portrayal in courtroom dramas, where they engage in intellectual battles to defend the oppressed against the powerful. However, the role of advocates extends far beyond courtroom theatrics, encompassing activities that uphold the rule of law both inside and outside the courtroom. Despite being considered a noble profession with a duty to protect human rights, advocates face scrutiny and controversy, with some viewing them as manipulators of truth and exploiters of suffering. This dichotomy in perception poses challenges to the advocacy profession, particularly in Indonesia, where advocates are expected to serve as agents of legal development and justice. This paper aims to delve into the intricacies of the advocacy profession and assess the extent of advocates' contributions to upholding the rule of law, offering insights to enrich legal discourse and understanding.

Abstract

This paper examines the trade dispute between the European Union (EU) and Indonesia over Indonesian steel goods. The EU's application of customs duties and anti-dumping measures on Indonesian steel products spurred Indonesia to initiate a dispute with the World Trade Organisation (WTO), claiming breaches of the bilateral agreement struck by the two countries. The WTO's creation of a trade dispute tribunal needs compliance from both Indonesia and the EU. This study uses qualitative approaches to critically assess relevant material, including scholarly journals, papers, and news sources, to provide light on the motives behind the EU's adoption of customs and anti-dumping policies, showing underlying domestic interests. Despite the EU's displeasure with Indonesia's remedy, it is still within Indonesia's sovereign rights to take such moves. This case highlights the complexities of international trade agreements, as well as the need to follow WTO norms for settling disputes.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze mutually reinforcing relations between climate change and interfaith harmony. Interfaith peace in the context of climate change can be created more effectively by building harmony and peace in Indonesia as a plural state because alleviation is no longer segmented to faith-based efforts alone. This research uses a qualitative method with a literature study approach. Based on the conceptual framework of environmental peacebuilding, this study found four important points: (1) climate change and interfaith harmony are mutually reinforcing; and (2) the shift from a faith-based approach to interfaith-based approach represents a more effective Environmental Peacebuilding effort (3) The existence of bottom-up initiatives executed in the frame of interfaith cooperation shows that the role of local communities is increasingly significant in environmental peacebuilding efforts in Indonesia. (4) Interfaith communities can conduct advocacy to build a more critical society by addressing national development that intersects with environmental interests.

Abstract

This research explores the relationship between youth bulge and political instability, using Ivory Coast as a case study. Despite being one of the world's poorest continents, Africa is experiencing a quick and considerable youth bulge, posing difficulties to political stability. The youth bulge phenomenon, which is defined by a disproportionate increase in the youthful population compared to other age groups, has historically been linked to political upheaval, as evidenced by events such as the Arab Spring. Lack of democracy, economic restrictions, and ethnic or religious discrimination are among the factors that contribute to political instability during a youth bulge. This study uses a qualitative research approach and secondary data analysis to investigate the impact of the youth bulge on the Ivory Coast political scene. The findings suggest a high youth unemployment rate of 35.7%, as well as considerable differences in educational access and political participation among young people. This lack of political engagement exacerbates the confusion, resulting in rebellion and instability. The study emphasizes the significance of tackling socioeconomic difficulties and increasing political inclusion to counteract the negative consequences of the youth bulge on political stability in Ivory Coast and other contexts.

Abstract

The entrance of Muslim immigrants in France in search of employment gave rise to the problem of Muslim immigration in France. The French government initially welcomed the entrance of Muslim immigrants because it required laborers to complete post-war reconstruction. Due to the growing immigrant Muslim population, these individuals have gathered, constructed mosques, established Islamic organizations, and formed groupings. increasing the visibility of Muslim identity. This is viewed as an outsized challenge to Islamic ideology in terms of French secularist philosophy. The attack on the WTO building, which worsened the already negative perception of Muslims, made this situation worse. In addition, President Macron manipulates the debate over Muslim immigration to further his political agenda. Macron enacted anti-separatist laws and anti-immigrant policies, which further marginalized Muslim immigrants. Macron became a securitization actor and actively declared that Islam was a radical, terrorist, and separatist religion to further his interests. The overwhelmingly Islamophobic French society endorses Macron's remarks. Thus, by embracing Macron's proposal, the problem of Muslim immigration has reached the securitized point, at which point the government must address the problem by enacting anti-separatist legislation.

Abstract

A demographic bonus is expected in Indonesia between 2030 and 2045 when people of productive age (16-65 years old) will dominate the country's economic and political systems. The purpose of this study is to determine whether the demographic bonus has the potential to produce turmoil in Indonesian politics. This study is based on the 'political demography' idea, which states that having a large number of young people in a country destabilizes its political structure. Three reasons contribute to this: the democratic and political system, economic factors, and prejudice against specific ethnicities and religions. According to the findings of this study, the author discovered factors that have the potential to cause turbulence in Indonesia's political system, such as Indonesia's unstable democratic and political system, as well as discrimination that can lead to protests from minorities against their unequal participation in Indonesian politics.
