Abstract

The purpose of this study is (1) to explore the mathematical concepts contained in the sonaf-maubes traditional house, and (2) to find out the symbolic meaning contained in the sonaf maubes traditional house. The type of research used is qualitative research with an ethnographic approach. The subjects in this study were people who could provide explanatory information about something that would be examined, including traditional leaders, guardians of the sonaf maubes traditional house and builders as well as the people of the Usfinit tribe who provided information about the history of the sonaf maubes traditional house. Data collection techniques used are interviews, observation, and documentation. Based on the results of the research, it can be concluded that (1) there are mathematical concepts found in the Sonaf-Maubes traditional house, namely flat shapes, spatial shapes, line concepts, counting concepts, distance concepts, and reflections (reflection), (2) there are symbolic meanings in the Sonaf-Maubes traditional houses on the traditional stone pillar main, roof, attic, doors, stoves and so on

Abstract

This study was conducted with the aim of determining the effectiveness of the jigsaw-type cooperative learning model on students' mathematical communication ability. This research uses quantitative methods with a quasi-experimental approach. This research design uses a pretest-postest control group design. The participants of this study were grade X students of one of the high schools in North Central Timor Regency. This research was carried out in the even semester of the 2022/2023 academic year The research instrument was in the form of a mathematical communication ability test and observation sheets. The results of this study show that jigsaw-type cooperative learning is effective in improving students' mathematical communication ability. this is illustrated by the results of research that shows that the achievement and improvement of mathematical communication ability of students who learn through the jigsaw-type cooperative learning model is better than students who learn through conventional models

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine students’ ability and difficulties in reading narrative text in SMA Kristen Petra Kefamenanu. It develops a way of reading English narrative texts through short stories as a medium of learning for students. This research used classroom action research. This classroom action research was carried out in 2 cycles. Each cycle consists of four steps, namely planning, action, observation, and reflection. This research technique uses a short story test consisting of multiple choices. The test consisted of cycle I and cycle II. This study analyzed the average score of each test to determine the increase in students' vocabulary in the short story narrative text after the action is taken. The results showed that narrative texts could improve students' vocabulary, which was seen in the results of the student's average score in Cycle I was 92 and in Cycle II was 92. It is concluded that teachers chose short story narrative texts to learn and teach vocabulary as one of the techniques to improve students' reading skills.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the profile of high school students' mathematical connection abilities in solving problems on systems of three-variable linear equations based on cognitive style. The method used in this research is qualitative. This research was carried out in the even semester of the 2022/2023 academic year. The research subjects were 27 class X students at a high school in the North Central Timor district. Subjects were grouped based on FI and FD cognitive styles. Next, 6 subjects were selected, namely 3 FI and 3 FD to take the mathematical connection ability test. The instruments used in this research were GEFT, mathematical connection ability tests, and interviews. Data analysis techniques are data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The results of this study show that the mathematical connection abilities of each student are different. Subjects with a field-independent cognitive style meet all indicators of mathematical connection ability, while subjects with a field-dependent cognitive style do not meet all indicators of mathematical connection ability

Abstract

This study of pre-service teachers’ perception of the use of e-learning during the Covid-19 pandemic in colleges of education in the North-west, Nigeria, was guided by two objectives; to find out the availability of e-learning tools in colleges of education in North-west, Nigeria during Covid-19, to investigate the perceived usefulness of e-learning by the pre-service teachers in colleges of education in North-west, Nigeria during Covid-19 and two research questions; are e-learning tools available for teaching and learning in colleges of education in North-west, Nigeria during Covid-19? How do pre-service teachers perceive the usefulness of e-learning in colleges of education? The researchers used mixed methods (quantitative and qualitative) for data collection.  A Multistage (called clustering) sampling technique was employed to select the sample from the colleges of education in North-west, Nigeria. The total population of the study is 113,030. The total sample that was chosen is 372 for quantitative and 23 for qualitative. The instruments used for data collection were adapted (questionnaires were used for quantitative, while data-blank was used for qualitative). The frequency and percentage were employed to analyze the respondents’ demographic information. The summary of the major findings points out that, there are no adequate e-learning resources in colleges of education in North-west, Nigeria that will enable them to use e-learning during Covid-19, and the pre-service teachers in colleges of education in North-west, Nigeria didn’t use to e-learn during Covid-19. The study affirmed that e-learning can be used as an instructional tool in colleges of education in North-west, Nigeria.

Abstract

This study aims to improve students' problem-solving abilities through a constructivist approach. This study uses quantitative methods in the form of pre-experimental. This research was carried out in the even semester of the 2022/2023 academic year This research design used one group pretest and post-test. The participants of this study were 17 grade X students of one of the high schools in North Central Timor district. Research instruments in the form of problem-solving ability tests. Before conducting data analysis, a prerequisite test is first carried out, namely a normality test using the SPSS-assisted Shapiro-Wilk test, and the results obtained that the data is normally distributed. Test the hypothesis using a one-sample t-test and a paired sample t-test. The results showed that students who learned using the constructivist approach achieved minimal completeness and there was an increase in the mathematical problem-solving ability of students who learned through the constructivism approach. Learning with a constructivist approach can facilitate the problem-solving ability of high school students. Therefore, it is recommended that advanced researchers in order to be able to apply constructivist approaches to other mathematical abilities

Abstract

There is an interesting issue that concerns leadership in 21 century that is faced with the 4th industrial revolution on leadership. This paper aimed to discover school principals’ practices of servant leadership in serving teachers. The study engaged servant leadership and Cultural Historical Activity Theory (CHAT) as theoretical frameworks. Servant leadership was used to interpret the practices of the school principals, while CHAT was used to identify and explain the findings in terms of culture and context. Two schools were chosen; both are owned by the public and found in the rural area of Maseru. This paper is located within an interpretive paradigm and adopts a qualitative approach. The study engaged focus groups, interviews, and observation. There were two focus groups, one from each school. There were 8 members in each focus group. The interview was done with the school principals of the two schools in Lesotho. The findings revealed that school principals practiced servant leadership. One core business of servant leadership is to serve. Teachers were served by reducing conflicts, facilitating the decentralization at school, promoting information sharing in schools; augmenting teacher commitment boosting job satisfaction and retention of teachers, creating a pleasant working climate, and developing teamwork.

Abstract

This study explores the factors behind poor Kiswahili performance in selected schools within the Alego-Usonga Sub-County. Kiswahili is learned globally for diverse purposes, including research, travel in East and Central Africa, meeting foreign academic requirements, connecting with East African diaspora roots, and voluntary work. However, Kiswahili performance in K.C.S.E. has been consistently low, with a five-year mean score of 4.74 (equivalent to D+). The research investigates challenges related to the availability of Kiswahili teaching and learning resources and proposes strategies for academic improvement. A sample of 311 students, 15 teachers, and 15 principals was selected through appropriate methods. Findings indicate that most secondary schools have a low book ratio of 1:3, and all other resources scored poorly, with a mean of 2.92, highlighting resource inadequacy as a significant challenge. The study recommends implementing strategies like donations, fundraising, and parental involvement to enhance resource availability. In conclusion, it emphasizes the need for government and stakeholder collaboration to improve Kiswahili's performance as a subject in the Sub-County.
