Abstract

This research aims to know the problem of what is the students’ perception toward E-Learning at English Education Study Program of IAI Muhammadiyah Sinjai, especially during the pandemic era. The researchers use the descriptive qualitative method in this research. The population in this research were all students in English Education Study Program, Academic Year 2017/2018 of Faculty Tarbiyah and Teacher Training, IAI Muhammadiyah Sinjai that consist of 34 people. While the sample of this research is also 34 people by using Total Sampling technique. Technique of collection data that used in this research were interview, coding, classifying, and documentation. The result of this research showed that most of the students thought that the use of E-Learning in pandemic era was negative perceptions. These negative perception caused by some reasons, namely: the limitation of network and internet quotes; unsupportive facilities, such as laptop and gadget or handphone; limited time in interacting with lecturers.

Abstract

This study aims to find variations in the use of student politeness strategies in Islamic Institute of Muhammadiyah Sinjai. The researcher applied a descriptive qualitative research method. The participants of this research were 5th semester of English Education program consisting 34 students. The observation administered and mainly observed during the teaching and learning process in the classroom. The transcriptions were analyzed and discussed based on the theory of politeness of Brown and Levinson (1987). The findings from this study show that English students used different kinds of expressions to encode their politeness in the class. Those expressions were in the forms of greetings, thanking, addressing terms, apologizing, asking permission, rejecting, and fillers. There are also several terms comes from the student's regional language which is used as a form of their politeness. These expressions are categorized as positive and negative politeness.

Abstract

The objective of this study is to identify the implementation of the paraphrasing strategy for the students at Mts Ummul Mukminin Makassar in teaching reading comprehension and the interest in using that strategy in the teaching and learning process. 30 students for the experimental group and 30 students for the control group were involved in the subject. The resources consisted of a test for reading comprehension and a questioner.The result showed that paraphrasing strategy substantially improves the reading comprehension of the students (.000 < .05). The questionnaire was given to the students covered the statement about whether or not the students are interested in the use of paraphrasing strategy. The questionnaire result shows that the use of paraphrasing strategy in teaching reading improves their interest in reading comprehension. In other words, the students have high interest to the use of paraphrasing strategy in learning reading. The interest of the students was classified in high category for experimental community, which is shown by the mean interest of students 71.87. Finally, the paraphrasing technique leads to enhancing the achievement of reading comprehension and students are involved in using the strategy in the course of teaching and learning.

Abstract

This paper aims to describe the forms of imperative pragmatic language used by preachers in propaganda content videos. Especially YouTube, this social media is loved by all circles. YouTube social media offers a variety of content, one of which is updated, the video which contains propaganda content. This research method uses descriptive qualitative, data collection is done by listening and recording methods. Data obtained through the method of refer and note then analyzed by classifying and grouping. In the grouping steps are used, namely 1) Data Collection, 2) Data Reduction, 3) Data Display, 4) Data Verification. The results of this study found that there are several forms of imperative pragmatic language contained in the video content of propaganda on YouTube. The imperative pragmatic forms found in the video content of preaching on YouTube, namely, a) pragmatic imperative invitation b) pragmatic imperative petition; c) pragmatic imperative demand; d) imperative pragmatic appeal, e) imperative pragmatic expectation, f) imperative pragmatic recommendation, and g) imperative pragmatic prohibition.

Abstract

This research aimed to find out the effectiveness of the use of animation movie through retelling technique to improve the students’ speaking ability of the eleventh years’ students of SMK Teknologi Somba Opu, Gowa. This research is a quasi experimental research and it employed a cluster random sampling technique. The researcher randomly selected two classes from four classes of the eleventh years based on their similarity in their speaking ability. Group A was as experimental group and group B became control group. The data were collected by using test. The result of data analysis indicated that the learning outcomes on speaking of the eleventh years’ students of SMK Teknologi Somba Opu taught by using animation movie through retelling technique was significantly increased after the treatment. The use of animation movie through retelling technique was effective in improving speaking ability with achievement of the students was better than conventional activity as indicated by the t-test value 13.804 and the p-value (2-tailed) .000 which was not greater than .05 level of significance.
