Abstract

Learning with a problem-based metacognitive approach can grow students' cognitive abilities in solving problems. By solving problems, students can organize and control students' cognitive activities so that students' learning methods are more effective and efficient, and students' thinking patterns become more developed and creative in solving problems. Learning that begins with giving problems fosters students' metacognitive actions, can contribute to building students' character to be aware of their behavior in learning. Metacognition has two components, namely metacognitive knowledge and metacognitive skills. In mathematics learning, students' metacognition can be developed in each phase of problem solving: understanding the problem, planning/determining a problem solving strategy, carrying out the solution as planned, and interpreting/rechecking.

Abstract

Research and development aims to: (1) create a media development of IPS learning video to be applied as a learning media as learning source, (2) to know students’ responses about IPS learning video media in Proclamation of Indonesian Independence subject matter as learning media as learning source. The type of this research is a development research using R & D development model. This learning product development model is a systematically arranged model adapted to the characteristics of the lessons and learners. The result showed: (1) the test of IPS subject matter is very good qualification (95,00%), (2) the test of learning design is very good qualification (87,50%), (3) the test of graphic design/media is very good qualification (92,50%), (4) individual test is excellent qualification (93,33%), (5) the small group test is excellent qualification (91,39%), (6) field test is excellent qualification (97,84%). The final product of this development is in the form of a video of CD learning.

Abstract

This study aims to find out how the effort to improve the students’ writing skill through image streaming method using the image series media on Indonesian Language in Fifth Grade at SD Negeri Paya Peunaga Meureubo Subdistrict. The research approach used qualitative approach with Classroom Action Research type (PTK), which consists of pre action and two cycles in which there are four stages: planning, implementation, observation and reflection. The subject of this research were all fifth grade students of SD Negeri Paya Peunaga Meureubo District, West Aceh District, which amounted to twenty eight students. Data collection techniques used observation, test, documentation and validation. Instruments in this study are observation sheet, test sheet and validation sheet. Data analysis technique used percentage descriptive. Based on the result of this research at the pre-action stage, only eight students or 28,6% students who complete with the average value of the overall student is 57,14. In the first cycle, there are seventy students or 60,7% who complete with the average value of the overall student is 65,2. In the second cycle, twenty three students or 82,1% have reached mastery with the average score of students is 72,8. The result of observation on teacher activity in the first cycle is 72,9% including in good category whereas in the second cycle reach 85,4% in very good category. The result of observation in the first cycle is 68,2% including enough category, while in the second cycle reach 79,5% in good category. Thus the use of image streaming with image series media in Indonesian Language learning can improve the writing ability of the fifth grade students of SD Negeri Paya Peunaga.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to find out (1) the differences of mathematics problem solving ability of student who get the problem-based learning better than student who get direct learning, (2) the difference of students’ learning motivation who get problem-based learning better than student who get direct learning, (3) the level of students’ activity during the process of the problem-based learning takes place, (4) the process of students’ answers that taught with problem-based learning is better than direct learning. Thisresearch is a semi experimental research. The population of this study is the students of eighth grade of Junior High School that accredited A in Sibuhuan. Randomly, one school was chosen as a subject of this research, namely SMP Negeri 1 Barumun. Then randomly, selected two classes from seven classes The first experiment class was given a problem-based learning treatment and the second experiment class was given a direct learning treatment. Instrument which is used consisted of a test of mathematics problem solving ability, questionnaire of students’ learning motivation and observation sheets. Data analysis was done by covariance analysis (ANACOVA) and Mann-Whitney test. The result of this research is the whole students who get problem-based learning is significantly better than the mathematics problem solving ability and students’ learning motivation are compared with students who get direct learning, students’ activity in problem-based learning is effective and the process of students’ answer which get problem-based learning better than students who get direct learning.

Abstract

This research aims to (1) improve the result of students’ physics learning on the subject of temperature and calority of the eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 5Padangsidimpuan Academic Year 2017, (2) to know the learning outcomes about the application of problem posing learning model in heat and temperature subjects as direct impact (3) to know the learning outcomes about the application of problem posing learning model in heat and temperature subjects as indirect impact to the ability and attitude of the eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 5 Padangsidimpuan Academic Year 2017. The research method used a classroom action research using two cycles on temperature and heat material subjects. The subject of this research is the students of the eleventh grade of SMA Negeri 5 Padangsidimpuan, which amounting to thirty students. The conclusions of this study are (1) The direct impact on the application of problem posing learning model on heat and temperature subject on the eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 5 Padangsidimpuan (2) The indirect impact on the application of problem posing learning model on calority and temperature subject to improve the eleventh grade students’ learning result of SMA Negeri 5 Padangsidimpuan. All students know that learning is not just about what is learned but why and how to learn it. Students can also communicate with their teachers and friends at school. The process of information exchange, the students have self- confidence and self-esteem so that they have positive effect on the motivation and scientific attitudes, as well as acquire the learning skills and the life skill from what they find in the learning process.

Abstract

This study aims to describe: (1) the type of main words and derivative words interference of Batak Toba language in Indonesian narrative essay, (2) the type of interference of the structure of Batak Toba language sentence in Indonesian narrative essay, (3) the causes of Batak Toba interference in Indonesian narrative essay. The method that used in this research is descriptive qualitative method. In this study, the method can give a complete description especially on grammatical interference of Batak Toba languag in Indonesian narrative essay. This research is held at SMA Negeri 1 Simanindo Samosir Regency. The subjects of this research is Xa and Xb class which is about sixty two students. The data is taken from narrative composition which is written by the students. The instrument of this research is the researcher himself. The technique that used in this research is interview technique; it is done to know the students’ background one by one. After knowing sixty two students’ background of SMA Negeri 1 Simanindo Samosir regency, that are from Batak Toba tribe, then the students are assigned to write an article of narration. The result of this research shows that there are two forms of interterence and the factors causing the interference of Batak Toba Language in Indonesian language narrative text, i.e. morphological interference and syntax. As for the forms of interference contained in the narrative essay is the main word and derivative words such as prefixes, suffixes, confix and repetition, while the form of infix is not found. In syntax, interference occurs in the pattern structure of Batak Toba language sentence on the structure of the Indonesian sentence.

Abstract

This study aims to determine whether through the application of a realistic mathematical approach with cooperative learning model of Student Teams Archievement Division type (STAD) can improve students’ mathematical problem solving skill on algebraic operation material on the eighth class of SMP Negeri 37 Medan. The type of this study is a Classroom Action Research (PTK). The subject in this research is thirty six students of VIII-5 class of SMP Negeri 37 Medan and the object of this research is the students’ mathematical problem solving skill on algebraic operation material in VIII-5 class of SMP Negeri 37 Medan academic year 2017/2018. This study is a classroom action research (PTK) consisting of two cycles, each consisting of two meetings. Before giving an action, a diagnostic test is given first and each end of cycle is given a problem-solving test. From the results of data analysis of diagnostic tests obtained by the number of students who achieve mastery learning from diagnostic tests that is eighteen from thirty six students or 50% with the average class 57.85. The result of data analysis on the first cycle after applying realistic mathematics approach with STAD type cooperative learning model shows that the number of students who reach the completeness of learning is twenty four from thirty six students or 66.67% with the average class 69.31. The result of the final data analysis of the second cycle with the same learning obtained by the number of students reached the learning completeness that is thirty one from thirty six students or 86.11% with the average class 77.92. It means that there is an improvement in the students’ problem solving skill from the first cycle to the second cycle. Based on the classical learning completeness criteria, this learning has reached the target of learning completeness. Thus it can be concluded that the application of realistic mathematical approach with STAD type cooperative learning model in the eighth grade of SMP Negeri 37 Medan can improve students’ mathematical problem solving skills.

Abstract

This research aims to know (1) the improvement of mathematical problem solving skill and students’ learning motivation who received problem-based learning and conventional learning, (2) the interaction between learning model and students’ early ability to the mathematical problem solving skill and the students’ learning motivation (3) the completion process of the students’ answers for solving problem on each learning. This research was done in SMP Negeri 4 Padang Bolak. The type of this research used quasi-experimental with pre-test-post-test control group design. The population in this study was all eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 4 Padang Bolak, while the sample was thirty students in VIII-1 class as experimental class and thirty students in VIII-3 class as control class. Sampling is done through random sampling technique. The research instrument used a mathematical problem solving skill test, questionnaire of students’ learning motivation. The hypothesis testing in this study used two way ANOVA test. The result of this study shows that (1) the improvement of the mathematical problem solving skill and the students’ learning motivation who received problem-based learning is higher than conventional learning. The result of the improvement of mathematics problem solving ability which was given problem based learning and the conventional learning was 0,16. It was seen from N-Gain 0,53 to 0,69, while the improvement of students’ learning motivation was 0,15. It was seen from N-Gain 0,17 to 0,32. (2) There is no interaction between learning and students’ mathematical early ability to the mathematical problem solving ability and students’ learning motivation. (3) The completion process of students’ mathematical problem solving answers who are given the problem-based learning is better than the students who are given the conventional learning.

Abstract

Character education is currently inadequately taught by traditional learning methods that tend to be based on the assumption that learners have the same needs, learning in the same way and in the same time; in the quiet classroom, with the tightly structured subject matter and it is dominant by the teacher. Traditional learning methods are considered not able to achieve the educational goals because of less accommodate the continuity of the experience of learners, especially in the age of primary school is still crave the ongoing experience in the family environment can be experienced also in school. Character education is a conscious and earnest effort of a teacher to teach the values to his students. Those values are built continuously day by day through thoughts and deeds, thought by thought, action by action. The teacher has the duty and responsibility to give guidance to the students to be fully characterized human in the dimensions of heart, mind, body, taste and intention in everyday life. So, the experience of children who are still global necessarily require the application of the relevant learning models to their characteristics. Therefore, an effective character education learning model is needed in schools.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the learning style of the mathematics learning outcomes in the fifth grade students of SD Negeri 064036 Medan. The type of this research is qualitative descriptive. The population and sample of this research is thirty two students of the fifth grade. The result of data analysis obtained there were twenty two students (68,75%) who have visual learning style, six students (18,75%) have auditory learning style, and four students (12,5%) with kinesthetic learning style. Many students who complete their learning outcomes (beyond the limits of KKM ≥ 68,5) by using test results on Fractional Subject as the test is six visual people (18,75%) with the average of students’ learning style 75,17; two auditory people (6,25%) with the average of students’ learning 72,50; and two kinesthetic people (6,25%) with the average of students’ learning style 73,00. Based on the result of data analysis, the learning style influences mathematics learning result.
