The aims of this journal is to provide a venue for researchers, academicians and practitioners for publishing the original articles or review articles. The main focus of the journal is on language teaching and pedagogy work. We are particularly interested on Language and Teaching Methodologies, Pedagogical Techniques, Technology in Language Teaching, Technology in Language Teaching such as CALL and MALL and Curriculum Development and Material design. Although the focus is primarily on research on language education, we will also consider papers in other areas of applied linguistics such as Sociolinguistics, psycholinguistics, and neurolinguistics, Language and culture, cognition, and pragmatics and Theories and practice in related fields.

Abstract

This research was conveying the influencing MOBA game in the teaching and learning process. This research has two intentions were: 1) influence of MOBAenhance the ability of students to speak, and 2) students’ interest in the use of MOBAgame. This research used a mixed-method. This research’s population was ten classes of the Eleventh grader at SMA Negeri 3 Sidenreng Rappang by population total were 298 students. The research’s sample was XI IPA2(33 students) which got by using a cluster randomly. This research used two varieties of instruments were speaking testand questionnaire. This study found that the influence of MOBA in clarifying thespeaking ability was improving. The mean score of post-test evidenced was higher than pre-test (69.39>51.81). So the researcher stated H0 was refused and H1 was confirmed. Furthermore, this research also found that the Eleventh grader wasinterested in learning speaking where was proved by the questionnaire’s mean score was 79.72 were classified in an interesting category

Abstract

The aim of this research was to find out the impact of the implementation of ICARElearning steps in improving the students’ writing ability at fishery agribusiness department of SMKN 7 Pinrang. This research applied quasi experimental design with non equivalent control group design. The total number of sample were 59 students in which class X AP1 consist of 29 students and class X AP2 consist of 30 students. The instrument used in this research was writing descriptive teks. The data was collected through pre-test and post test. The result of the data analysis showed that the writing ability of the students improved. Despite the students’ writing ability in control class also improve, but the improvement is not as significant as in experimental class. Therefore, the result of this research showed that ICARE learning strategy can be an alternative way to solve the problem in the classroom, especially for writing skills.

Abstract

This research is aimed to investigate whether Read-ask-put (RAP) Strategy improves significantly students’ reading comprehension. A quasi-experimental method was conducted in this research with a time-series design consisting of one pretest-posttest group. The population of this research was the student of class VIII SMP 5 Pinrang in the 2018/2019 academic year which consisted of 10 classes. The sample was taken by purposive sampling technique, VIII.1 class as the experimental group and VIII.2 as the control group. The number of experimental groups was 30 students and 30 students in the control group. The research instrument used was reading the test. Based on the data analysis, the mean score of the experimental group was higher than the controlled group (79,6> 72,76). This showed that the reading comprehension of the students who are taught through rap strategy was better than the students who are taught through reading aloud. The result of t-test value (3,07) was greater than t-table for α = 0.05 with df = 58 is 1.671. It means that the alternative hypothesis was accepted. The study concluded that teaching English through RAP Strategy improved the students’ reading comprehension in SMP 5 Pinrang.

Abstract

ABSTRACT The major problems of this research were how to enhance the students’ speaking ability. Then how to motivate the students to speak in English so this research conducted to find out whether implementing Multiple Intelligence effective to improve the students’ speaking of SMP Negeri 3 Duampanua. A quasi-experimental method was carried out by researcher in this research. The population of SMP Negeri 3 Duampanua. VIII.1 and VIII.2 were taken as sample. The instruments that used in collecting the data were interview test and questionnaire. The result of the research shows the students’ speaking ability of the experimental was better than the control group. It was proved by the data of the students’ mean score on experimental class was higher tha the control group (69.16 ˃ 60.52). Futhermore, implementing multiple intelligence improve the student speaking ability. Besides, the research finding also shows the students interest toward the implementing of this simulation. Keywords: Multiple intelligence, Students’ interest, Speaking ability ABSTRAK Masalah utama dari penelitian ini adalah bagaimana meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara siswa. Lalu bagaimana memotivasi siwa untuk berbicara bahasa Inggris sehingga penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui apakah penerapan kecerdasan ganda efektif untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara SMP Negeri 3 Duampanua. Metode kuasi eksperimen dilakukan oleh peneliti dalam penelitian ini. Populasi penelitian ini adalah SMP Negeri 3 Duampanua. VIII.I dan VIII.2 diambil sebagai sampel. Instrumen yang digunakan dalam mengumpulkan data adalah tes wawancara dan kuesioner. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan kemampuan berbicara siswa kelas eksperimen lebih baik daripada kelompok kelas kontrol. Itu dibuktikan dengan data skor rat-rata siswa di kelas eksperimen lebih tinggi daripada kelompok kelas kontrol (69.16 ˃ 60.52). selain itu penerapan kecerdasan ganda meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara siswa. Selain itu, temuan penelitian ini juga menunjukkan minat siswa terhadap penerapan simulasi ini. Ini dibuktikan ole data dari kuesioner dimana minat siswa adalah yang dikategorikan sangat setuju. Kata kunci: kecerdasan ganda, minat siswa, kemampuan berbicara.

Abstract

The objective of the research was to find out : (1) whether or not phonetic symbols influence pronunciation ability of the second-semester students of Muhammadiyah University of Sidenreng Rappang and (2) whether or not the students interested in the use of phonetic symbols in teaching and learning pronunciation of the second-semester students of Muhammadiyah University of Sidenreng Rappang. This research applied a Pre-experimental method that applied one group pre-test and post-test. The subject of the research was the second-semester students of Muhammadiyah University of Sidenreng Rappang in the academic year 2018/2019. The total population was 30 students that gather in one class and the population was taken as samples by the total sampling technique. The data of the research were collected by using two kinds of instruments, namely pronunciation test, and questionnaire. The pronunciation test was used to obtain data on the students’ pronunciation ability and the questionnaire was used to know the students’ interest in teaching and learning pronunciation through phonetic symbols.

Abstract

Writing is considered a difficult skill for students. Regarding the reality, the Indonesian government has put one approach in curricula namely genre-based approach that makes the researcher interested to formulates two research objectives in this research. They are to find out the extent to which the using genre-based approach helps teachers in teaching writing hortatory exposition texts and to know the students’ interest in the implementation of the genre-based approach in learning writing hortatory exposition texts at SMA Negeri 2 Pinrang. The researcher applied the triangulation mix method and used purposive sampling. To obtain the data, the researcher used three instruments, namely observation, interview, and questionnaire. After analyzing the data, the research result indicated a genre-based approach helpful to teachers in teaching writing hortatory texts. Further, the students’ interests categorize as strongly interest. Keywords: Genre-based Approach, Writing, Hortatory Exposition Texts.

Abstract

Vocabulary is one of the important mastery in English. People can communicate or talk with others by creating a sentence either verbally or in writing. The function of a sentence is to convey the message or the specific intent. So that the message can be up and understandable manner of speaking. This research was based on the students problem regarding the English teaching. Especially the students vocabulary mastery. It was caused by the teaching activity applied in the classroom, where the teacher was more active than students. Consequently, the students vocabulary mastery was low. Therefore, the objective of the research is to find out whether or not the use of the cartoons films able to improve vocabulary mastery of seventh grade junior high schools in UPTD SMPN 1 Parepare. The researcher applied quasi-experimental design with two groups pretest and posttest design. The population of this research was the seventh grade students at UPTD SMPN 1 Parepare academic year 2020/2021. The sample of the research was taken by using total random sampling which consisted of 64 students from two classes taken from the population of the seventh grade students of UPTD SMPN 1 Parepare. VII.6 as the experimental class and VII.9 as the control class.The result of the data analysis shown that the students vocabulary mastery was improved. It was shown by the mean score of the pretest in the experimental class was 50.00 while the control class 55.43. Besides that, the mean score of posttest on experimental was 83.12 while on control class 64.68. It was proved the t-test 2.380 was greater than the t-table 2.000 with degree of freedom (df)=(N1+N2-2) 62 for 0.05 level of significance. It can be concluded that the results of the scores indicate that cartoon films are quite effective in implementing UPTD SMPN 1 Parepare
