Abstract

ABSTRACTPoespowardojo ( in Budihardjo, 1994) stated that there are two essencesof house for the residences. The former essence, house is a world where theresidences must develop theirselves. The later essence, house isa placewhich the residence must adapt to the local culture. So that, the meaning ofhouse has a close relation with the sicial, culture and economic backgroundof the owner. This research is focused on the ornaments of Kudus Traditional House, that right know slowly destroyed. The aim of this research is to get the meaningof the house, through discovering the residences value systems, physically ornon physically. There are several value systems found at Kudus traditional house, that is:hierarchy, status symbol, gender, sacral-profane, duniawi-ukhrowi, pingitanculture, collumn meaning, and tumpangsari. Those value systems have. veryclose relation and also form the meaning of Kudus traditional house. The main result of this research is that the meaning of a house is veryinfluenced by social and culture condition in Kudus, and also by the economicbackground of the owner. Keywords: Kudus traditional house, meaning, value system

Abstract

ABSTRACTKampong Karangkajen Yogyakarta is an old kampong that most nativeresidences are batik enterpreneur. Most of them still have close relationship, evenmore family relationship. So that there is a unique relationship among theresidences, especially in their informal relation. The aim of this research is to look for characteristic of informal gatheringspace at Kampong Karangkajen Yogyakarta, and to get determine factor of thecharacteristic, through typology study. This research uses rasionalistic-qualitative paradigm. Before analyzingthe data, the researcher studied several references, especially about typologyin architecture. The study results theory frame that will drive data analyze, thatis 9 cases of informal gathering space at Kampong Karangkajen Yogyakarta. The result of this research show that there is a typology of informal gatheringspace at Kampong Karangkajen Yogyakarta, especially in physical factor thatsupport activity comfortness. The determine factors influenced the typologyare: the users, the activities and the time when the activities happened. Keywords: typology, informal gathering space, Kampong KarangkajenYogyakarta

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe sediment suspension phenomena have a close something to do withthe watering field, the complexity of the existence of silt particles and clay in afluida which are continuously interact and the turbulence which was happenedhas a specific characteristic. The problems on the sediment suspension flow on the open channel wereapproached with experimental method, i.e. by conducting a direct measurementof the sediment recirculating flume in Hydrology and Hydraulics Laboratory inPAU UGM. To measure the concentration profile of sediment suspension carriage,it is used optical silt measuring instruments type Foslim-probe tools, while tomeasure the flow speed profile, it is used electromagnetic flowmeter probe settype VM-201 H tools and vector calculate equipment type DV-101 tools. From the measurement of 10 series of uniform flow suspensed sediment, itshows that the integration constant value, Br, from logaritmic rule tends to besmaller compared with the integration constant value, Br for pure water, i.e. Br=9. 110 +- 0.734. the integration constant value is affected by the sedimentsuspension concentration level which is showed by the fact that the raisingconcentration will cause the reduction of Br value. From the result of thecomputation, it shows that the coles wake parameterP for the suspensed uniformflow is P =0.085 with the constant value of Von Karman k =0.40 constant. Itshows that te sediment suspension effect will cause the value of P will be moreoppened, it is aggree with the result gained by Coleman (1986) which was saidthat the sediment suspension will cause the greater P value. Keywords: sediment suspension, uniform flow, open channel

Abstract

ABSTRACTThis research is aimed to show the ability of tube tissue system distributesclean water in Balikpapan City recently. The use of waterCAD software is one ofthe alternative programs to drive an element tube exchange to get a betterclean water distribution tissue. The data of the research are city population, topography photograph,skeletonize-model map and its equipment. The data then were used for the inputof waterCAD software. According to the output of the program, it shows that itshould be a change of tube elements to gain pressure standard 150-300 kPausing scenario management facility. The result analysis using waterCAD software shows that the capacity ofclean water distribution pipe at this time have not been able to suffice the cleanwater demand, in this condition, the water flow has average pressure -29.735,05kPa which is not appropriate with pressure standard. The alternative program tosolve this matter is the change of tube diameter to 400, 500, and 600 mm andtube material from Galvanized Iron and Steel. The pressure after the change is174,5 kPa. The computation dispute between waterCAD software and analyticcomputation is 0,71% for flow debit and 2,27% for pressure at node. The differenceshows that the waterCAD software has been thoroughly tested. Keywords: water demand, clean water distribution system, waterCAD program

Abstract

ABSTRACTBurned and raw limestone powder is a kind of binder that has been widelyused in traditional construction of masonry and clay brick wall. Nowadays, limestone powder also widely used in many construction projects as a portlandcement admixture. This research is designed to examine the effects of burnedand raw limestone powder on the compressive strength of mortar. This research has been done with experimental method using variouscomposition in mortar mix design. The compositions that used in this researchare 1:1/4:3, 1:3/4:3, 1:1:3 and 1:2:3 of portland cement, limestone powder andsand, with six standard cubes for each average of mortar compressive strength, that have been tested in the Laboratory of Building Material, Department of CivilEngineering and Planning Education, Faculty of Engineering in State Universityof Yogyakarta.Test results indicate that (a) average of mortar compressive strength using1:1/4:3 composition of portland cement, limestone powder and sand is 24,79MPa for burned limestone powder and 16,3 MPa for raw limestone powder, (b)average of mortar compressive strength using 1:3/4:3 composition of portlandcement, limestone powder and sand is 14,14 MPa for burned limestone powderand 13,28 MPa for raw limestone powder, (c) average of mortar compressivestrength using 1:1:3 composition of portland cement, limestone powder and sandis 12,28 MPa forburned limestone powder and 7,78 MPa for raw limestonepowder, (d) average of mortar compressive strength using 1:2:3 composition ofportland cement, limestone powder and sand is 8,56 MPa for burned limestonepowder and 7,18 MPa for raw limestone powder, (e) There is a significantdifference of mortar compressive strength using burned limestone powder andraw limestone powder, (f) the use of burned limestone powder as portland cementadmixture is better than raw limestone powder that indicated from the result ofcompressive strength tests. Keywords: nlortar, conzpressive strength, lilnestone po~vder.

Abstract

ABSTRACTFluidization method is one of the alternatives to maintain river mouth andharbour entrance. It is expected to substitute the role of maintenance dredgingthat is high cost and often inefficient for small volume of dredging. A series ofresearch is conducted to understand the fluidization method but there has beenlittle confidence whether fluidization process can run when the system isimplemented in the field. Hence, fluidization model of large scale is expected toenhance confidence. The objective of the present study is to obtain flow rate required forfluidization. The study used two dimensional physical modelling of large scale. Itwas conducted by testing various sediment thickness (burial depth of pipe) from25 cm to 150 cm in a large concrete well. Several parameters were observed onthe experiments. Performances of one and three holes of fluidizer pipe wereobserved too.The flow rate requirement increases linearly with sediment thickness. For 1hole of fluidizer pipe, the flow rate requirement approaches Qh =0,45 db + 0,40.While 3 holes of fluidizer pipe requires flow rate as Qh =1,44 db + 0,16. Wheredb is sediment thickness. Comparison between the performances of 1 holeand 3 holes of pipe show that holes spacing significant to fluidization. Thedistance between holes should not be too long. Cooperation of holes mayreduce flow rate requirement. Keywords : fluidization, dredging, sediment
