Abstract

This research attempts to identify the nature of economic growth and to understand disparity among of sub-districts in Banyumas regency. The tools of analysis are Klassen typology, Williamson index, entropy Theil index, trend and Pearson correlation.Klassen typology shows that Banyumas sub-district can be classified into four types: high growth and high income, high income but low growth, high growth but low income, low growth and low income. Based on Williamson index and entropy Theil index, we found that disparity of gross regional domestic product per capita among sub-districts in Banyumas tended to increase over the period of 1993-2000. More importantly, our findings confirmed that Kuznets hypotesis could be found in Banyumas. Indeed, there has been a negative correlation between Williamson index or entropy Theil index with GRDP growth.

Abstract

This research aimed to analyze the potential of regional financing from regional debt both short run and long run debt in DIY. The criterias General Revenue and Debt Service Coverage Ratio as regulated in PP 107/2000 are used to decide whether the regional government is eligible to borrow long run debt. Because all of regions are eligible according to General Revenue criteria,  so the eligibility is only determined by DSCR criteria. Over period 1995 – 2002, DCSR fluctuates especially in crisis period. However, the short run eligibility criteria can not disclose the real financing needed For that reason, it is needed advance criteria that is more representative. Key word: regional debt, financing, DSCR

Abstract

This research aims to identify spatial concentration of large and medium manufac¬turing industries throughout 25 districts in West Java. It used secondary and establishment data of BPS (Indonesia’s Central Bureau Statistic) since 1990 until 199. The tools of analy¬sis are Geographic information system, logistic regression, regression using panel data and convergence analysis. The research showed that the industry growth in West Java was not distributed equally among districts. Several districts have a high industry concentration, meanwhile some have a low industry concentration. The manufacturing industries concentred in Bota¬bek (Bogor, Tangerang and Bekasi) and Bandung area. Factors that affect the growth are labor cost (salary), output, FDI, economics of scale (SE), dummy crisis (DKrisis) and dummy industry (DInd).Logistic regression analysis showed that, several variables were significantly ex¬plain that manufacturing industry are more concentrated on industrial regions. This result is consistent with regression analysis using panel data which shows that the manufacturing industrial growth was influenced by those above variables. Convergence analysis indicated that, West Java Province should growth at least 6.30% per year for its convergence growth. Keywords: spasial, convergence, manufacturing industries
