Jurnal Siasat Bisnis (JSB) is a peer review journal published twice a year (January and July) by Management Development Centre (MDC)-Department of Management, Faculty of Economics, Universitas Islam Indonesia. JSB) addresses the broad area of management science and its applications in industry and business. It is particularly receptive to research relevant to the practice of management within the emerging regions and its effects beyond. It covers studies on how management work is done (descriptive) and/or should be done (normative) in diverse organisational forms, either in profit or non-profit firms, private or public sector institutions, or formal or informal social networks. Abstract

This research is to develop a theoretical model about performance and to test the influence of business environment in determining operations strategy and to improve company performance by empirical test in high medium manufacturing company in Tasikmalaya.This is explanatory research. The method of the research is survey. The object of the research consists of business environment, operations strategy and performance. The research location is in Tasikmalaya City and Regency involving the high medium manufacturing companies. The research subject is CEO. The research population is 192 high medium manufacturing companies in Tasikmalaya. The research sample is 110 companies determined by Structural Equation Model, as the method of analysing data, which is operated by AMOS. The conclusions of the research are: (1) Business environment sets a significant role in determining operations strategy choice, so to decide the competitive company priority needs the right identified scanning environment. (2) The success of the company in uncertainty business condition will be reached if the company is able to focus itself in cost strategy, quality strategy and delivery strategy.Keywords: business environment, operations strategy, performance and balance score card

Abstract

This study aims to determine the role of peers' influence, attitude towards cigarette advertising, and attitude towards smoking behavior on teenagers’ smoking intention. The respondents in this study were 150 students of high schools in Yogyakarta city. Quantitative data analysis methods used to test three hypotheses in this study is a Multiple Re-gression Analysis. Findings found that there are only two variables that have positive relation towards teenagers’ smoking intention, i.e. peers' influences and attitude towards smoking be-havior. Attitude towards cigarette advertising do not positively contribute for teenagers to have an intention to smoke. Abstract

This research aims to analyze the small and medium industries competitiveness in the manufacturing sector in Central Java by using the framework of Porter's diamond model. Measurement of the competitiveness index is using the value established in the industry rankings, the company, dimensions and elements. Based on the results of the index values calculated, small and medium industries in the manufacturing sector in Central Java are highly competitive both for each dimension and overall dimensions. According to the results of independent analysis of samples t test found no significant difference between the competitiveness of small industries with medium industries. Small and medium industries in the manufacturing sector in Central Java has also contributed to the regional economy, especially in absorbing labor, establishment of regional gross domestic product (GDP), providing the output value, non-oil exports, and the absorption of investment value.Keyword: small and medium industries, competitiveness index, manufacturing sector

Abstract

The study is to examine the effect of service quality and satisfaction of the tax compliance of taxpayers to pay taxes. It is the case study in Yogyakarta Branch of Tax Office. In the study the concept of quality of service tax office and taxpayers satisfaction based on five dimension including reliability, assurance, responsiveness, empathy, and tangible. The research data was obtained with 191 respondents involves taxpayers in the two branches of the tax office in Yogyakarta by taking a sample of convenience sampling. With the data processing program Amos, was obtained the result that service quality had a positive effect on adherence indirectly through a variable of satisfaction. While based on Wilcoxon analysis concluded that some quality assessment items, service and taxpayer satisfaction are empirically proven to different.Keywords: Service quality, satisfaction, compliance, taxpayers, and service dimensions

Abstract

This study observes the bankruptcy prediction models introduced by Altman; the First Altman model, the Revised Altman model, and the Modified Altman model to predict bankruptcy for manufacturing companies listed in the Indonesian Stock Exchange. The research was conducted for forty-two manufacturing companies that matched criteria in the selection of the sample over the years 2004-2007 based on published data for the same period. To accommodate various Almant models, the data was then calculated based on financial ratio and the data have been processed further to find the bancruptcy index as suggested by the models. The results of the three models are then compared with the use of company’s age and size as descriptive information to predict the company’s bankruptcy potential. The result of comparative data in bankruptcy prediction is that; the first Altman provides the highest percentage in predicting the bankruptcy. The research also found that the company categorized under small groups and under the age of 30 were likely to go bankcrupt in compare to the other groups. Abstract

This paper examines investor reaction to earnings management around seasoned equity offerings (SEO) by companies listed on Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) in the period 2005-2007. Using Jones Model modified by Dechow (1995), this research found evidence of earnings management around seasoned equity offerings. Based on managerial response hypotesis, this research analyze whether SEO announcement signals earnings management to investor. Furthermore, this research also analize investor reaction on SEO announcement and financial report around SEO. The result shows that investor failed to recognize earnings management on financial report before SEO. However, this research does not found evidence that SEO signals earnings management conducted by firms to investor.Keywords:    Earnings management, seasoned equity offerings, investor reaction, managerial response hypothesis
