Abstract

This study aims to identify and to analyze KH. Imam Zarkasyi’s paradigm model of thinking in increasing the value of inclusive Islamic education based on human unity value through historical-philosophical approach. The result is that the paradigm model of Tawhid Worldview constitutes rationality value to liberate science bigotry among tribes, ethnic, cultural or religious understanding. Rationality value to build scientific epistemology in Islamic education inclusive curriculum content can be implemented through the integration of social sciences culture of sources of Islamic teachings, the philosophy of Pancasila and socio-cultural diversity of learners locally, nationally and internationally. On the other hand, rationality value will change the learning approach and method, and civilizing values of inclusive education through religious communal environment. The paradigm model can balance value function and mental changes and inclusive personality of local, national and international Muslim generation.

Abstract

This research was Classroom Action Research to analyze students’ reading comprehension through SQRW. In this research, researcher used random sampling in selecting the participant and answering the question of questionnaire. In collecting the data, the researcher did observation and used reading task, test, teacher’s diary and Questionnaire. The subject of the study is the second year students of SMP Negeri 20 Padang, The subject consists of 40 students, 23 male and 18 females. From the data that have been found, they have good ability in serving, answering questions, reading and writing. It means the ideal passing score is at least 75%. This study was stopped when 90% of the students, subject of this study have reached the passing grade. It is recommended that English teacher of junior high school use the SQRW in the classroom, the teacher must to be able to support the students to learn reading by using SQRW and also the teacher must consider the best teaching in developing the use SQRW.

Abstract

This Classroom Action Research aims at developing students’ speaking skill through the application of oral report technique. This research is conducted collaboratively in three cycles in which researcher acts as a lecturer while his collaborator acts as an observer and each cycle consists of two meetings. Data of this research is attained from two main sources namely qualitative and quantitative data. The data shows that In preliminary study, 35.5% students could answer questions given by researcher through interview but the achievement score shows that 13.3% students could fulfill the minimum criteria of achievement. The minimum criterion of achievement is 60. At cycle I, 37% students could participate in oral report and 24.4% students could fulfill the minimum criteria of achievement. At cycle II, 51.1% students could participate in oral report and 42.2% students could fulfill the minimum criteria of achievement. The last is 75% students could fulfill the minimum criteria of achievement from 86.6% students who participated in oral report at cycle III from 45 students. Furthermore, the highest score obtained by student from each of cycles present that in preliminary study is 70 whereas 72.5 at cycle I, 85 at cycle II, and 90 at cycle III. Based on the findings of this research, it can be inferred that the application of oral report technique can develop students’ speaking skill in using English

Abstract

This study intends to explore students’ difficulties in using critical thinking skills in reading. The subject of this study was second year undergraduate students of Ar-Raniry State Islamic University, Banda Aceh. This qualitative study analysed students’ difficulties in using critical thinking skills in term of interpretation, analysis, evaluation, inference, explanation, and self-regulation. A personal interview was conducted to find the data from the students. The result indicates that students’ lack of practicing let them difficult in using critical thinking skills in reading. The other difficulties found were lack of language mastery, implied meaning, background knowledge, repetition and lack of vocabulary. Among six problems discovered above, lack of practicing, background knowledge and language mastery had made the students felt that critical thinking was difficult to be applied.

Abstract

This case study aimed to evaluate the rural area learners’ writing self-efficacy using two different approaches which are qualitative and quantitative approach. It involved three form four students and a teacher for six months. In this study, the learners’ writing self-efficacy was investigated using a combination of quantitative and qualitative (classroom observation). Classroom observation was based on three characteristics: persistence in accomplishing language tasks, self-awareness of English proficiency, and willingness to engage in language activities. These characteristics which were concept of self-efficacy. This study did not focus on the score of WSE scales alone but also placed a heavy emphasis on the perceptions and actions of the form four students and teacher. Altogether, 15 non-participant classroom observations, 10 interviews with each of the three students and 10 teacher’s interviews were carried out to understand the participants’ self-efficacy phenomena in their learning to write. Findings showed that the combination of different method of collecting data for writing self-efficacy was a feasible way in explaining rural learners’ writing self-efficacy development.

Abstract

The success of higher education institutions can be seen from several indicators. One of the indicators is the institutions that can produce outputs and outcomes with the competence in relation to the needs of society. The graduates’ academic achievement can be described through their grade point average (GPA). There were 79 graduates who got Cum Laude predicate at the Department of Islamic Studies, IAIN Imam Bonjol Padang in the 1st Period of graduation which was held on August to September and in the 2nd period on March, from the academic year of 2011 to 2015. The lowest GPA was 3.50 while the highest GPA was 3.93. The graduates who got Cum Laude have worked in several fields of jobs; such as Islamic Religion teachers, staffs in government offices, banks, and political parties both in West Sumatra and out of Sumatra. The study showed that there is no significant contribution of GPA with their career. It implied that GPA will not determine the graduate career either as a teacher on Islamic studies or as a teacher on social science and civics education. It also found that the graduates who work in out of field of studies were caused by the demand of the schools because of lack of teachers.

Abstract

This research was focused on the implementation of instructional authentic assessment in the Cutural History of Islamic Subject; class VIII, Perguruan Thawalib Putri Padang Panjang. This study aimed at describing the implementation of authentic assessment by teachers in teaching Cultural History of Islam. The design of this research was qualitative and the data collection techniques were observation and interview. The data were analysis by using Interactive Analysis Model of Miles and Huberman. The results obtained indicate that the implementation of authentic assessment had not been fully implemented by the teacher of Cultural History of Islam both in the affective and psychomotor, while the cognitive domain has been performed well.

Abstract

This Research was conducted to measure the performance quality of the educational laboratories at the faculty of Islamic Education and Teacher Training in State Islamic University or UIN Imam Bonjol Padang, especially in the performance of the field Practice for Teacher Training laboratory (PPL), Computer and Islamic Education Practice Laboratory (PPAI) by using balanced score card method. In term of the method, four perspectives were used such as: financial perspective, customers (the users) perspective, internal business perspective, and growth and learning process. The foci of this study included: PPL, computer, and PPAI. The subjects of this research were 3 heads of the labors, 6 laboratory staff, 3 financial staff, and 90 students who were studying in semester VII at faculty of Islamic Education and Teacher Training in UIN IB Padang at academic year 2016/2017. Questionnaire, interview guide, and observation sheet were used as the instruments that have been tested their reliability and validity. Data analysis was employed by measuring the customer perspective questionnaires, internal business process perspective, and learning growth perspective. The finding of the study ­­showed that the performance of labor the PPL laboratory is 3.27 (65.35%) with good category. The Performance of computer laboratory is 3.05 (61%) with good category. The Performance of the PPAI laboratory was 2.76 (55.2%) with less good category. Overall, all three laboratory have 3.03 (60.6%) performance measurement result   with good category.

Abstract

The low proficiency attainment in English language among Malaysian learners has been given main attention in Malaysia Ministry of Education’s plan to further improve education. Part of the plan is by introducing literature components in the teaching and learning of English language curriculum. This has immediately changed the scenario of teaching and learning in English language classroom. This paper will review past studies related to the implementation of Literature component in English language by looking specifically at the teacher’s roles since teachers are the direct factor contributor in learners’ process of learning and teaching. Apart of roles in the learning process, teachers’ approaches employed in teaching literature component will be critically reviewed in this paper and suitable approaches available in teaching literature in English will be put forward.
