Abstract

An open-pollinated progeny test of Araucaria cunninghamii was established in Bodowoso, East Java.The seeds were collected from 28 parent trees in 3 provenances in papua. The progeny test was arranged according to randomized Complete Block Design consisting of 28 families, 8 replications, 4 lines tree plot and spacing at 4 m x 3 m. At five years of age differences between provenances or families within provenance was significant for height, diameter and stem straightness. Heritability estimates for height, diameter and stem straightness were all moderate: (h2f – 0.44, h2i =0.11) for  height, h2f – 0,36 h2i =0.12) for straightness). The genetic corrwelations between traits were strong and positive: 0.62 for height and diameter, 0.73 for diameter and straightness (rg=0.73) and height and straightness. The genetic gains from family selection with  selection intensity of 70 % for height, diameter and stem straightness were 7.8 %, 2.5 %, and 9.7 % respectively, While those from individual selection with selection intensity of 10 % for height, diameter and stem straightness were 10.7 %, 4.6 % and 15.3 % respectively.

Abstract

Bakau (Rhizopora apiculata(, one of the species of mangrove, is well known for having true recalcitrat seeds, since they tend to have very short-life cycle. Hence they cannot be stored a long time. Developing improved methods for retarding seedling growth of tropical mangrove is necessary to successfully control growth rates during long-term storage. The aim of the research is to identify the influence of growth inhibitors used were paclobutrazol (250 ppm), NaCl (0,5 %) and aquadest (as a control). The condition for the storage consists of heavy (650 lux), moderate (8935 lux) and light (17593 lux) shadings. The media used including the mixture of sand. A completely randomized design was arranged in a factorial experiment. The results showed that the use of paclobutrazol (250 ppm) was very effective to suppress the growth height of the seedlings. The storage condition of light shading with the intensity of the  day-light and the highest temperatur (L.I= ±17593 lux, T= ±350C) could reduced the speed of seedling growth during storage for 6 months supported by the use of sand as media. Such conditions gave a seedling survival of 98,33%

Abstract

A Provenance test for ex-situ conservation and a progeny test of Eusideroxylon Zwageri was established in 2006 and 2008 at Sumberwringin, Bndowoso, East java. The trials were evaluated every year to examine genetic and environment effects on growth. There significant differences among provenances for height both at the provenance and progeny test. The differences among families within provenance was statistically significant for height and diameter. Estimated individual heritabilities at one year old for height and diameter. Estimated individual heritabilities at one year old for height and diameter r=were hight (hi2 = 0.58 for height and hi2 = 0,52 for diameter).

Abstract

The aim of this experiment was to investigate effect of population sources, media composition and NPK fertilizer dosage toward sprouting ability of Alstonia angustiloba Miq. Cutting. This experiment was arranged in completely randomized design with factorial setting. The research used 3 factors, I,e.population sources (banten, Pendopo, Lubuk Linggau and Solok); media compositions (top soil, top soil : Compost : husk charcoal 3 : 2 : 1, top soil : compost : husk charcoal 4 : 2 : 1, Top soil : compost :husk charcoal 5 : 2 : 1 and top soil : compost : husk charcoal 6 : 2 : 1) and NPK fertilizer dosage (0g,5 g. 10 g, 15 g and 20 g). The results showed that media composition variantions did not give significant effect on parameters measured. The best of length and diameter of sprouts, number of nodus and number of leaves were significantly produced by 20 g NPK fertilizer dosage. Pendopo popupation significantly produced the best length sprouts, while Banten population produced the best number of nodus and Lubuk Linggau population produced the best diameter sprouts and the highest number of sprouts. Interaction of NPK fertilizer dosage and population sources gave significant influence on number of sprouts, whit the best interaction was 10 g dosage of NPK fertilizer vs Lubuk Linggau population (1.79).

Abstract

The aims of this study to investigate the adaptability, genetic variation of growth character, and genetic correlation among tested plants. The design was Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with 100 tested families from 8 populations, with 4 tree plots and 6 replications. The spacing was 4mx4m. The resultsb showed that adaptabily of plant was very good, with high percentage of plant survival (91.64%). There were significants variations within families and within populations on height, diameter and branching. The individual heritability (h2i)on height and diameter were hight (0.50) and 0.40) and moderate on branching (0,24). The family heritability (h2f) was moderate on height , diameter and branching (0.56, 0.50, and 0.46 respectively). Yhe genetic correlation (rg) between plant heght and diameter was 0.96.
