Abstract

The most seriouse affecting Sengon (Sengon (Falcataria moluccana) plantation is Gall rust is coused by the fungus Uromycladium tepperianum (Sacc.) McAlp. This disease reduced the yield due to mortality and stems brakage (fllowing the formation of stem-girdling galls) reduced marketability and  decreased of ghrowth rates. This research aimed to select seedlings sengon which is tolerant to gall rust disease at provenence level, Five seed sources were used for this study i.e. from Papua (Elaigama Hubikosi and Siba Hubikosi) and Java (Candiroto, Kediri and Wonosobo). Inoculation was carried using fresh spora of Uromycladium tepperianum, There times when the seedlingreaches two weeks old. Then obsevation has been done for height and symptom scoring for evaluating disease incidence and severity. The result showed there were variations for height, disease incidence and disease severity. Seedlings sengon from Papua exhibited growth (height) about 6,5-12,2 cm,  and seedlings from Java. It recorded that seedlings from Papua exhibited 0% of disease incidence ansd disease severity, meanwhile seedling from java is more susceptible to the gall rust, by which exhibited hight value of disease incidence (86-94 %0 and disease severity (53-60%).

Abstract

Gaharu is an imprortant species of non wood forest product of Aquilaria spp with hight economic value. The natural stand has been exploited very intensive. The aim of the study were to investigate level of Aquilaria (namely A. malaccensis, a. beccariana and A. microcarpa) in order to provide genetic information for developing conservation strategy of the species. Aamples were colleted from 7 populations and analyzed using 26 RAPD primers. Total of 84 polymorpic loci have been obtained from these primers. Mean of genetic diversity within population indicated by A. malaccensis Muara Bungo population. A. malaccensis Berau population has the lowest genetic diversity. The highest genetic distance between populations was between A. micricarpa samboja and A. beccariana Berau. In contrast, genetic distance between A. Microcarpa Bearu and A. malaccensis Berau was the the lowest (0.017). based on Cluster analysis, The seven populations were divided into 2 groups. The first group consisted of 2 populations of A. malaccensis and A. microcarpa from Kalimantan.

Abstract

Ramin (Gonystylus spp.) is one of the genus wood producing that interested to trade. This plant growth in peat swamp forest areas. This genus consist more than 20 species and only Gonystylus bacanus (Miq.) Kurz) has been explored. From 2004 this species has been listed in CITES APPENDIX II. Propagation of this plant can conducted trhrough generative but difficult to get of materials as explants. Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium used as growth medium. The observation was made  on Shoot induction period, shoot number, heigh of shoot and visual performance of culture produced. The results showed that shoot can induced from stem with single node. The treatment of 2.0 mg/l thidiazuron is the best treatment to shoot induction. The average of shoot find was 5.1 days after cultured  and faster than other treatment. The treatment of 0.5 mg/l BA is the best to shoot growth and visual performance. Average of shoot height from this treatment is 0.7 cm. The treatment of 0.5 mg/l BA on modifild MS medium is the best to shoot elongation than MS medium.

Abstract

The aims of this experiment was to investigate effect of population sources and media composition toward shoot cutting growth of Alsonia angusiloba Miq. From two sprouts age. This experiment was arranged in completely randomized design with factorial setting. The research used 2 factors. i.e. population  source (Banten,Pendopo,Lubuk Linggau and Solok) and media compositions (sand, cocopeat, husk charcoal. Sand : husk charcoal (4;1) and sand cocopeat (4 :1). The result showed that interaction of population source and media composition did not give any significant effect on parameters measured. Lubuk Linggau population produced the best of rooting percentage (31.19 %) from 3 month sprouts age and Pendopo population produced the best of rooting percentage (65.52 %), number of root (5.50) and length of root (2.79 cm) from 5 month sprouts age. Sand : cocopeat (4:1) media produced the best of number of root (4.14) and length of root (2.41 cm) from 3 mionth sprouts age. Sand media produced the best of rooting percentage (70.42 %), number of sprout (5.27) and length of sprout (2.82 cm) from spouts age. Rooting percentage, number and length of roots tended to increase from 3 month sprouts age to month sprouts age.

Abstract

Using two chloroplast universal primers, haplotipic within and among populations of Pinus merkusii had been evaluated, in order to access paternal variation of this species. The aim of this study was to investigate variation of chloroplast microsatellite in P. merkusii. Using two universal chloroplast microsatelites, a total of 18 chloroplast haplotypes were found among 730 individuals surveyed in 10populations in Java. Private haplotypes mostly found at eastern Java populations. The number ofdetected haplotypes (Na) within populations ranged between 5 and 14. Variation of haplotypes (h) was relatively hight; it ranged between 0.727 and 0.858. Nei’s genetic distance among populations was very low (Da=0.030). Moreover, analysis of molecular variance (AMOVA) showed genetic variation originated from within population but the value was insignificant. It was concluded that private haplotypes found in eastern Java might show gene pool of P. merkusii in Java. These detected haplotypes are of important information for genetic resources conservation anf breeding strategy of P. merkusii.
