Abstract

Estate crops is one of the foreign exchange producers that can be relied on in the globalization era. Therefore the production of estate crops process requires means of production that is efficient and environmentally friendly to raise the competitiveness in the global market. Plant disease control by using biological  controlle agent such as PGPR is necessary to be utilized in the estate crops enterprise that is environmentally friendly and sustainable. Plant Growth-Promoting Rhizobacteria (PGPR ) is a bacterium that lives in the root and can produce antibiotic, as competitor, induce plant resistance to control pathogenic disease and pest and can secrete useful compounds  for plant growth. PGPR  user can reduce the utization of synthetic pesticide and inorganic fertilizer. The application of PGPR to control diseases in the estate crops such as pepper, tea, tobacco, and vanilla  effective to control the main pathogens such as Phytophthora capsici, Phytophthora nicotianae,Fusarium oxysporum, Pseudomonas solanacerum, Rigidoporus lignosis, Exobasidium vexans,Tobacco Mosaic Virus and nematodes. PGPR has the potency to reduce the pesticide utilization upto 50% and in the organic cultivation. PGPR has been published could complety replace the pesticide utilization especially if it is used continuously. Indonesia is the second biggest country in the biological resources including PGPR. This potency is necessary to be developed and utilized to build the estate crops that is environmentally friendly and suatainable. Key words : PGPR, biological control, environmentally friendly, induce resistance.

Abstract

Patchouli (Pogostemon cablin Benth.) as the oil-producing plant is known through patchouli oil. Patchouli oil is one of natural ingredient that has a very important role in the industry of cosmetics and perfumes. Patchoulol (patchouli alcohol/PA) is the most important compound which secretes aroma and are often used as an indicator of the quality of patchouli oil. But this time, the PA content of Indonesian patchouli oil mostly <31%, whereas the ISO standard requires over 31%. Therefor, efforts to increase the patcouli alcohol content is higher indispensable either through improved crop and post harvest. Various studies have been conducted from land suitability and climate, varieties and post-harvest. The results showed that the content of PA can be improved more than 50% Key words : Patchouli, patchouli alcohol, technology, improvements

Abstract

Indonesia is a country having the largest area of sago in the world. Sago is plant producing carbohydrate used as raw material of ethanol, therefore it has the largest potency to produce bio-ethanol as fossil fuel substitution. In the past, development of sago plantation was still in a forest, with 95% area located in the East of Indonesia as the rest is in the West. The productivity is varies depends on age and location with tha average of 90 to 700 kg per stem. If the productivity is 100 kg per stem with the population of 30 stems per ha, the total sago starch in Indoensia will be 6,84 millions ton per year. The constrains in development are plant material and cultivation technology, therefore their research and dissemination need to be increased. Beside to produce bioethanol, sago forest can absorb CO2 emission from tidal swamp, therefore Indonesia can earn carbon-trade compensation.   Keywords : Sago, potency, bioethanol, CO2 emission, superior varieties.

Abstract

The Arenga microcarpha (sago baruk) has a prospect to be developed because its food source as sago baruk flour and its side products such as cattle feed, wood and organic fertilizers, as well as its support for land conservation due to its ability to grow well in varying critical and long dry season areas which enables to control erosion and ground water. The optimal growth of sago baruk requires minimized trim which can be used as cattle food. Sago baruk farm management would be efficient if combination patter of Sagu  baruk, forestry plants and cattle could be applied in one are. The pattern would produce diversification products, such as sago baruk starch, beef cattle, organic fertilizers  and wood. The pattern will be implemented appropriately and intensively in sago baruk areas to provide more employment and opportunities, increase of income, and provide sustainable food for people. Key words: Arenga microcarpha,  sago baruk starch, cattle feed, land conservation

Abstract

Indonesian ginger production rate decreased 13.3% per year in the last decade, and put Indonesia into a position to the 14 ginger exporter countries which was originally the main exporting country, due to the decline rate of productivity during the period 2004-2011. Over the periode of 2004 to 2011, the decline productivity reached of 5,88% per year and harvested area 2,03% per year. The decline productivity as the impact of the use of carelessly seed, pest and disease, application of unappropriate cultivation techniques, climate change, and competition with more profitable commodities, so that influences to the rate of planted area. To be able to compete in the free market, the strengthening of farmer capital and infrastructure improvements policy along with assistance for the implementation of cultivation techniques in accordance to the GAP (Good Agricultural Practices) and GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices), and the use of of superior varieties, healthy seeds, and socialization good agriculture practices needs to be done. In the future, research to generate high yielding varieties resistant to pest and bacterial wilt disease and high moisture, as well as cultivation technology that can overcome climate change should be carried out. Key words : ginger, production, export, determinats factor
