Abstract

This study aimed at: (1) generating sociocultural base-thematic-integrative learning instrument on the theme “My Aspiration” for the students of SD N Pujokusuman 1; and (2) identifying the effectiveness of the sociocultural base-thematic-integrative learning instrument on the theme “My Aspiration”. This study referred to the steps that had been developed by Borg Gall. The developmental design was categorized into three procedures which consisted of: (a) preliminary stage; (b) development stage; and (c) testing stage. The subjects of the main experiment were 28 elementary school students. Then, the subjects of the operational test were 84 students from SDN Pujokusuman 1. The subjects of operational product test in the experimental group were 56 students and in the control group were 28 students. In gathering the data for this study, the researcher employed interview guideline, learning instrument product assessment sheet, teacher’s checklist observation sheet, student’s checklist observation sheet, learning results test, and teacher’s response questionnaire. In conducting the data analysis, the researcher made use of independent sample t-test with the rate of significance 0.05. The results of the study show that the learning instrument belongs to the “Good” category. The implementation of the learning instrument, in general, belongs to the “Very Good” category. However, there are differences between the control group and the experimental group after the implementation of the sociocultural based-thematic-integrative learning instrument with p 0.05. There is also a significant improvement with p = 0.0001.

Abstract

This study is a quasi-experimental research using factorial design. This study aimed at finding the facts that had been resulted from the different influence caused by the use of Open-Ended method and that of STAD method on the students’ mathematical problem-solving skills in terms of learning achievement. The learning achievement was categorized into two types namely the high achievement and the low achievement. The population in this study was Grade V students from SD Negeri Serayu. The data were analyzed by ANAVA univariate test. The results of the study were as follows. First, there have been differences in the mathematical problem-solving skills of the students who had been taught using Open-Ended method and those who had been taught using the STAD method. Second, there were also differences on the students’ score. For the students who had been taught using the Open-Ended method, the highest posttest average score of their learning achievement was 95.71 while the lowest post-test average score of their learning achievement was 63.92. These students’ total average score of learning achievement was 81.04. On the other hand, for the students who had been taught using STAD the highest posttest average score of their learning achievement was 95.50 while the lowest posttest average score of their learning achievement was 70.00. These students’ total average score of learning achievement was 89.13. Third, there has not been any differences between the Open-Ended method and the STAD method.

This study aimed at generative a proper and effective Adobe Flash Interactive Multimedia for Grade IB Students under the sub-theme “My Food is Healthy and Nutritious” in SD Negeri Glagah Yogyakarta. This research and development study referred to the stages that had been developed by Borg Gall. The development design was put into four stages, namely: (a) exploration; (b) product development; (c) product testing and revision; and (d) implementation. The subjects of preliminary field testing consisted of 15 Grade IV students in SD Negeri Glagah. Then, the subjects of expanded field experiment consisted of 30 Grade IV students in the experimental group and 29 Grade IV students in the control group; all of these students came from SD Negeri Glagah. The data were gathered using the interview guideline, the interactive multimedia product evaluation sheet, and the test items. The data that had been gathered were analyzed using the independent sample t-test with rate of significance 0.05. The results of this study have generated the interactive multimedia that according to the material experts and the media experts belong to the “Very Good” category. However, there have been differences in the pre-test results and the post-test results between the experimental group and the control group after both groups were exposed to the interactive multimedia with p 0.05. These differences imply effectiveness improvement with p = 0.005.

Abstract

The objective of this research and development study is generating approach-based reading textbook which will be appropriate and feasible for implementation in order to improve the reading skills of Grade IV students. This research and development study referred to the steps of research and development proposed by Borg Gall. The subjects in this study were the Grade IV students from the State Elementary Schools under the Regional Unit of Technical Implementation in Kutasari District, the Regency of Purbalingga which consist of SD Negeri 1 Cendana, of SD Negeri 1 Karangjengkol, SD Negeri 1 Sumingkir, and SD Negeri 2 Munjul. In gathering the data, the researcher made use of interview, document analysis, rating scale, test, and questionnaire. The results of this research and development study are a process approach-based reading textbook for Theme 9 “My Food is Healthy and Nutritious” which has been designed in five reading activities namely: (1) setting up; (2) reading; (3) responding; (4) understanding; and (5) expanding the understanding. This textbook has been considered feasible for implementation according to the material expert and the media expert with “Good” category and according to the book design expert with “Very Good” category. There are differences in the final results between the experimental group and the control group after the approach based-reading textbook has been applied with the significance 0.05. These differences show the significant reading skills improvement with sig. value (2-tailed) = 0.024.

It used the RD design of Borg and Gall. The subjects were teachers and students of grade four of SDN Serayu, Yogyakarta City. The data were obtained through interviews, a questionnaire, observation, and a test. The product effectiveness was tested by using a quasi-experiment. The data were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively through t-test at 95% confidence interval. The results showed that the product is suitable for use, which is evidenced by the mean score of syllabi at 44.5, lesson plan at 74, the instructional textbook at 56.5, students worksheet at 33.5, and the assessment instrument at 21, all of which are in a very good category. The product could improve the students’ critical thinking ability which is evidenced by the significance value standing at 0.000 for t-test of two experimental groups (IVA and IVC) with the control group  (IVB). The product was effective in improving the care-for-environment character of students which is evidenced by the significance value standing at 0.000 for t-test of two experimental groups with the control group.
