Abstract

The presence of internet would bring a variety of effects inall areas of human life. The impact of bias could be both a positive and negative. On the other side for libraries it would bring a disparate impact, engaged in the service and information. In the context of libraries, the internet is very helpful to disseminate informationthat is available in it. It means internet becomes a partner in the dissemination of information. Therefore, the existence of the Internet is very important for the library.

Abstract

CDS-ISIS is a library software developed by UNESCO,to help the library managers in developing countries that less budget to develop it. In accordance with the need to fast access on data and the flexible data sharing bears an idea to build library software. SLiMs—Senayan Library Management System—is Open Source Software (OSS) web based. The main purpose of SLiMs is to fulfill information system on a small or large library. The feature is very complete and users would have flexible management to the library both of intranet or internetbase. SLiMs provides features to export data from or import data to, using CSV (comma-separated values) format. The release of stable 7 version, this feature could be used to export and import bibliographic record from data source. The standard format enables Senayan database to share between other library softwares respectively as long as those applications could export on this format.

Environment always changes. It must be anticipated bythinking strategically, that is a rethinking of the organization,itsvision for the future. To achieve that visionrequires a mission. It also requires reexamining the organization’s strengths and weaknesses. Organization has to identify threats as well as opportunities that exist to encourage future directions. Abstract

The presence of OS (open sources) software causes Indonesia’s higher education libraries strove to produce software. This Software provided modules, contained OPAC. The purposes of this research is to evaluate the performance of OPAC in Centre Library of Islamic State University (UIN) Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang, using the standard of IFLA cheklist method. The result is that the OPAC performance of didn’t fulfill the standard recommended by IFLA.

Abstract

This writing will be discussing about quality standardmanagement implementation system of ISO 9001:2000 in libraryinstitution. The word ISO is taken from greek which means‘same’ and 9001 is a standard related to quality management. Theimplementation of ISO in library is a sustainable process whichneeds all supports. To apply it, needs fourth steps; 1) planning. 2)document compiling and validating. 3) certification. The advantagesof the implementation of ISO are: first, promoting the trust andlibrary user satisfactory by means of organized and systematicquality insurance. Second, promoting, image and competitivestrength in the global market. Third, promoting the awareness oflibrary quality. Fourth, triggering and creating positive changes interms of quality culture at the institution of library.

Abstract

Today, many libraries such as academic library havedeveloped local digital repositories. A significant increase inthe development of repositories is expected with technology andprocess improvements for digital collection development. Currentinformation technology requires interoperability between systemsthat facilitate the exchange of data and information. Use of the webbased applications and systems that have the ability to exchangeinformation and data through Open Archives Initiative (OAI)protocol or the other systems can be a bridge to access the localdigital collection. Abstract

Lately the term information literacy is often discussedthis awareness needs to be appreciated. Even in Indonesia it canbe said to be late, but considering the importance of the benefits of information for the development of the awareness that literacy should be developed. Information literacy is defined as one’s knowledge of the needs information, the ability to identify, seek, evaluate, organize and effectively create, use and communicate information for solving problems. Those Knowledges are a prerequisite to live in an information society and part of one’s basic right to lifelong learning. In a number of libraries that have implemented information literacy, some progress has been achieved. Indeed it is still limited in higher education, sothat information literacy programs in schools should be encouraged and realized. This literacy can be done through various programs: through user education during new student orientation, incidental activity, or to integrate IL into the school curriculum. To realize this agenda all librarians should continue to learn and develop their competences. Without it, they are impossible to carry out information literacy at the school.

Librarian has many alternative to classify DDC (DeweyDecimal Classification) number. Not only use printed DDC, butnow DDC software to help identify DDC number is available. Onof them is Athenaeum Light 8.5., DFW (Dewey For Windows)Version 1.00, WebDewey 2.0, e-DDC (electronic-Dewey DecimalClassification) Edition 22. In this paper, it will roll out about how touse that software with it excess and deficiency.
