Abstract

Knowledge on nutrition aspect is essential in aquacultural development. Information on crustacean nutritional requirement have been substantially abundance and needed to be critically reviewed. The potency in term of nutritional content of ragworm Nereis and it’s use for feed of shrimp have been reported in many papers. The worm contains different macromolecule and amino acid as well as fatty acid required for optimum growth and reproduction of shrimp. Therefore, the worm is nutritionally appropriate for feed of shrimp.

Abstract

This research aimed to calculate cost and revenue farming on Serayu watersheds located in Banyumas Regency on 2003/2004 year, to estimate upland farming index with ruminant husbandry activity; and to estimate factors affecting land conservation by farmer. Sampling method used was two stages cluster random sampling, obtained 13 villages, with 39 respondent of farmer with animal husbandry and 21 one without the husbandry. Result of the research showed that there were seven types of cropping pattern using 3-10 kinds of plant. The lowest cost and revenue were on three kinds of plant and the highest one were on 4 kinds of plant. Farm without the husbandry consisted of seven types of cropping pattern with 29 kinds of plant. The lowest cost and revenue were on 2 kinds of plant and the highest one were on 9 kinds of plant. The amount of cost available and laborpositively affected cropping index significantly for both farming. Cropping value had positive value but had no significant impact to cropping pattern index for both farming. Farm income, number of families on farm, and value of animal ruminant production positively affected conservation activity index but were not affected by amount of family on the farm, land space, formal education, and land owner status.

Abstract

Objective of the research was to study differences of 2,acetyl-1-pyrrolin and grain yield among four upland rice cultivars sowed in two different locations. Randomized block design was applied in the experimental field with three replications. The 2,acetyl-1-pyrrolin content and several agronomic characters were observed. Research result showed that: 1) 2,acetyl-1-pyrrolin content was a stable character and was not differed from locations, 2) grain yield and growth of upland rice sown in Sukoharjo was better than in Cilacap, and 3) Menthikwangi was a favourable cultivar for being cultivated in both Sukoharjo and Cilacap as they gave better yield than other cultivars

Abstract

The objectives of this research were to give information about the characteristic of thermal conductivity (k), thermal diffusivity (a), and specific heat (Cp) of soybean grain due to the influence of moisture content and bulk density. This research was conducted in laboratory and was carried out at various moisture contents of 11 to 20 percent wet basis and bulk density from 850 to 900 kg/m³. The instrument used was PVC cylinder with 10 cm diameter and 25 cm length. At the central point along the cylinder was stretched a neckline heating wire as a line heat source supplied by a direct current (DC) electric. In order to get timetemperature data for calculating value of k, a, and Cp of soybean grain, instrument for measuring temperature were placed at two locations: first at the distance < 2.8 mm and second between 11.9 to 17.3 mm from center cylinder. Result of the experiment consisted of k in W/m. C, a in m²/sec., and Cp in J/kg. C described as following empirical equation: k = 3,037 x 10-1 + 3,924 x 10 -3 ka + 4,604 x 10-4 ρ α= 4,051 x 10-7 + 0,909 x 10-8 ka + 4,709 x 10 -10 ρ Cp = 4,478 x 103 4,722 x 10-1 ka 2,807 ρ Value thermal conductivity and diffusivity of soybean grain in bulk increase linearly due to the increasing moisture content and bulk density, but value of specific heat decreases linearly due to the increasing moisture content and bulk density. Implication of the experiment result is that standard moisture content and bulk density are needed for giving information of thermal properties value, especially for soybean grain.

Abstract

A field experiment was conducted to study the effects of paddy straw mulching and P fertilizer on yield of two pigeon pea genotypes in Palu dry-land. The experiment was carried out in Mpanau, Palu district, Central Sulawesi. The experiment used randomized block design in factorial pattern consisted of four factors with three replications as follows: (1) two pigeon pea genotypes (Mega cultivar and ICPL 84031 line); (2) three levels of crop spacing (30 cm x 20 cm, 40 cm x 20 cm, and 50 cm x 20 cm); (3) four levels of paddy straw mulching (0, 2, 4, -1 -1 and 6 t ha ); (4) four levels of P fertilizer (0, 50, 100, and 150 kg ha ). Results of this experiment showed that ICPL 84031 line gave the maximum yield of seed -1 -1 (1,91 t ha ) obtained from optimum mulching level of 4,83 t ha and optimum P -1 rate of 125,29 kg ha at 30 cm x 20 cm crop spacing. Mega cultivar gave the -1 maximum yield of seed (1,11 t ha ) obtained from optimum mulching level of 4,13 t -1 -1 ha and optimum P rate of 148,13 kg ha at 30 cm x 20 cm crop spacing.

Abstract

This research aimed at knowing the application effect of synthetic fungicide tebuconazole 25% alone or mixed with Trichoderma sp. on sheath blight disease and rice yield. The research was carried out at the Plant Disease Laboratory and the experimental field, the Faculty of Agriculture, the University of Jenderal Soedirman. Split Plot Design was used with Trichoderma sp. as main factor consisted of without and with antagonistic Trichoderma sp. applied on rice at 15, 30, and 45 and 55 days after transplanting (dat), and concentration of tebuconazole -1 25% as sub-plot consisted of 0, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, and 2.0 g l . The combination was repeated three times. Variables observed were incubation period, disease intensity, phytoxicity, effectiveness of the fungicide, number of young crops, and dry weight of harvested unhulled rice. Data were analyzed with F test and continued with LSD at level of 5%. Result of the research pointed out that average of incubation period was in the range of 20-30 dat. The application of Trichoderma sp. at 15 and 30 dat could suppress the disease development around 17.01 and 10.73%, respectively. The fungicide tebuconazole 25% applied at all concentration could suppress the disease development around 20.01-23.34%; did not cause toxicity to the crops, less effectiveness, and could not increase the numbers of young crops and rice yield. Trichoderma sp. applied at 15, 30, 45, and 55 dat could not increase the numbers of young crops and rice yield. The combination did not affect the disease intensity, numbers of young crops, and rice yield.

Abstract

Ternak ruminansia kecil seperti domba dan kambing memiliki peran sangat penting pada sebagian besar masyarakat pedesaan di Indonesia. Mendekati 99 persen ternak ruminansia kecil dikelola oleh petani kecil di pedesaan. Sumbangan usaha beternak ruminansia kecil terhadap pendapatan petani adalah sangat berarti, demikian pula potensi ternak ruminansia kecil untuk mengurangi kemiskinan di pedesaan besar peranannya. Tulisan ini bertujuan untuk meninjau ternak ruminansia kecil di Indonesia dan implikasinya pada pengentasan kemiskinan di pedesaan. Beberapa strategi penelitian dan pengembangan ternak ruminansia kecil kaitannya dengan aspek pengentasan kemiskinan di pedesaan juga dibahas.

Abstract

The study aimed at obtaining the appropriate concentration of natural coagulant from pineapple extract, extraction ratio for the best quality tofu, and comparison of tofu quality. Split-Split Plot Design was used with main plot were soybean variety (V1=Slamet and V2= import soybeans). The subplot was concentration of pineapple extract (K1= 1%, K2=1.5%, K3=2% v/v) and extraction ratio of soybeans and water (R1 = 1:6, R2 = 1:7, and R3 = 1:8 w/v). Results of the research showed that the optimum extract concentration in soybeans tofu processing was 1% (v/v) and the optimum ratio was 1:6 (w/v). Based on yield and texture, tofu from Slamet variety soybeans was better than the imported soybean but based on chemical composition, tofu from Slamet variety was relatively similar to tofu from import soybean. The best quality of soybeans tofu was produced from Slamet soybean with 1% (v/v) concentration of the extract and 1:6 (w/v) extraction ratio, with physicochemical and organoleptic characteristic as followed: 26.664% (db) protein, 5.797% (db) lipid, 0.9% (db) ash, 74.501% (wb) water, 9.696% (wb) or 96.96 g/1000 ml yield, 21.75 mm/g/dt texture, and 6.55 pH.
