Abstract

A space affects humans not physically but also psychologically. Therefore, we are often familiar with the term "comfortable" when dealing with peaceful feeling of being inside a space. Saunders (2015) states that out of 19 reasons why people visit a library, physical space has become the second reason after the library’s collection. This indicates that the number of visits as well as the length of time for the visit are also influenced by the condition of the library interior. Comfort in the library space is still the main thing that determines the users’ interest when visiting the library. This study aims to evaluate the effects of the elements that make up a library’s interior design on the comfort perceived by students as users. Interior design elements as indicators of visual comfort to be studied are the visual variables, flexibility, socialization comfort, thermal and acoustic. The importance of understanding users’ psychological condition because of physical environment of the library can make a university’s library become a pleasant and comfortable space for the academic community to support teaching and learning process.

Abstract

Iodine is a substance that is important and required by human body which is usually found in table salt. Generally, the species that exist in salt ispotassium iodate (KIO3). This research was conducted to analyze iodate content using spectrophotometric method based on the formation of blueiodine-starch complex. The influential parameters in analysis were concentration of iodide and starch concentration. Iodide was used as reducing agent to reduce the iodate while starch was used as a complexing reagent that would form a complex with I2 which produced a blue color. The method showed optimum results at22.85 x 10-4M of iodide concentration and 1% of starch concentration at the maximum wavelength of 611 nm.

The instruments used are questionnaire, interview guide and observation sheet. The findings show that the most hampering factor of speaking skill in terms of teaching and learning activity is lack of assignment that makes the students do not get sufficient time to practice. In terms of learning materials, too difficult materials have bevome the most hampering factor for them to speak up. Next, in relation to lecturer’s personality, a lecturer who is too serious is the highest reason why they do not speak up actively. Then in terms of the use of English as a medium of instruction, the most hampering factor for the students is lack of the use of English in class. The next hampering factor related to feedback given is the ways how the lecturers give feedback which make the students embarrased. It is expected that the findings of this study can help lecturers to help students improve their speaking skill much better by designing better curriculum and syllabus, applying more communicative strategies in teaching, and creating more helpful atmosphere during the teaching and learning activities.
