Abstract

Discourse on the relationship between Islam and democracy has never been brought into intellectual debates in this country. Discussions on this issue emerge is Dcradically and incompletely, so that it tends to bewilder and stimulate simplification aStude among Muslims. Till now, most discourses give more concerns about pro-contra on the implementation or formulation of Islamic law. Abstract

The press is an institution of mass communication that could serve the interests of the information society. Everyday the press provides an overview of a variety of events, providing a place for the community to issue a written opinion and pass on societal values from generation to generation. In the face of changes take place rapidly in communities clearly such information is very helpful. Weekly Newspaper "Mimbar Masjarakat" and "Nusa Putera" edition of South Sumatra (1965 AD-1972 AD), is a testament to the history of the Islamic press in Palembang, where the existence and history are not so known to the public and public audiences in this city. Lunge and press struggle in build, develop, prosper, and educating the people of Palembang through its role is so urgent and complex. This constitutes an irony of history for Islam in the Indonesian press in general and in the city of Palembang in particular. This paper reveals the history and role and contribution of "Mimbar Masjarakat" and "Nusa Putera" Edition South Sumatra is very significant social change in Palembang. Abstract

South Sumatra, socially intellectual, is one area that has a tradition of writing that is strong enough. Many found religious books or other themes that are found in this area. The abundance of these writings can not be released to the role of the scholars who actively and creatively to formulate the teachings of Islam to the people. This tradition is experiencing dynamic development along with the development of his time. The tradition of writing in South Sumatra typical "Arabic-Malay", can be traced historically in Palembang Sultanate era, which is the palace-centric. When the Sultanet Palembang by the Government of the Netherlands East Indies, this tradition pesantran move to boarding schools. One of the schools that is Pesantren Seribandung with the main characters K.H. Anwar bin Kumpul. From the hands of this phenomenal born clerics many religious books that can be enjoyed until now. Abstract

Assimilation policy of the Thai government that wants to establish the Kingdom of Siam Kingdom have led to a conflict. The government's policy intends to mengsimilasi Patani Malay-Thai-Buddha in terms of religion and culture have led to a resistance and the movement of the Patani Malay-Muslim majority. Cultural and religious differences between Thai Buddhists and Malay-Muslim Patani it is one factor that drives the desire-Patani Malays of Patani Raya founded by an autonomous region. However, this desire raises the ongoing conflict between the two ethnic groups. That's why groups were emerging resistance among Patani Malay Muslim community against the Thai government that is culturally synonymous with Buddhism. Abstract

Indonesia is known in some models of madrasah education. At least, there are four models of madrasah in Indonesia, namely: diniyah madrasah, public madrasah, madrassa special program, and madrasah schools. Model madrasah This latter is a new phenomenon in the history of Islamic education in Indonesia. As in Madrasah Aliyah boarding school Sabilul Hasanah, the education model is trying to combine modern education system but still maintain a traditional pesantren education system. Merging two models of Islamic education system is dimaksudakan for harmony between faith and piety on the one hand and modern science on the other side. Abstract

Membaca suatu teks membutuhkan strategi-strategi tertentu yang dapat membantu mempermudah pemahaman terhadap isi bacaan. Ada berbagai strategi yang bisa diterapkan guru atau dosen dalam membantu siswa atau mahasiswa memahami suatu teks. Salah satu strategi adalah Self-Questioning Strategy (SQ Strategy). Banyak penelitian menunjukkan efektivitas penggunaan strategi ini dalam membaca. Tulisan ini menguraikan dampak-dampak positif penerapan SQ strategy dalam membantu siswa atau mahasiswa untuk memahami isi teks secara lebih komprehensif, terutama mereka yang mengikuti matakuliah Reading. Secara umum, tulisan ini dibagi dalam dua bagian. Bagian pertama membahas teori-teori yang terkait dengan strategi SQ dan bagian kedua memaparkan hasil-hasil penelitian yang terkait dengan efektivitas penggunaan strategi ini dalam proses memahami teks, terutama dalam hal meningkatkan ketrampilan membaca secara metakognitif dan kesadaran membaca. Abstract

Discourse of Islamic thought in Indonesia is evolving as the dynamics of Islamic thought in the Muslim world. One is the Islamic fundamentalist movements that emerged in the Middle East. This movement also affected in Islamic movements in Indonesia. However, within certain limits, Indonesian Islamic fundamentalist movements differ from similar movements in the Middle East. Movement of Islamic fundamentalism in Indonesia merely wish that God's laws are upheld and enforced in this country. Meanwhile, in the Middle East, this movement has been involved in politics far enough. Apparently, the movement of Islamic fundamentalism in Indonesia is not always synonymous with radicalism, like the case of Prosperous Justice Party (Partai Keadilan Sejahtera [PKS]). Through revolution Prosperous Justice Party (Partai Keadilan Sejahtera [PKS]) mind trying to introduce Islamic fundamentalist movements in a way that is more lenient and polite. Abstract

Palembang adalah kota yang unik. Salah satu keunikannya adalah pluralitas penduduk yang mendiami wilayah itu. Jalur sungai Musi melintasi kota itu adalah satu pendukungnya, sehingga menjadikan wilayah ini sebuah kota yang kosmopolitan. Keragaman penduduk telah memperkaya kebudayaan yang ada di kota ini, sehingga kebudayaan ini menjadi khas Palembang yang menjadi milik bersama. Kebudayaan Arab, misalnya, telah ikut mewarnai khazanah budaya di Palembang. Sebagian budaya masyarakat Arab ini telah lebur dalam budaya vernakuler Palembang, tetapi sebagian lagi budaya yang masih menjadi milik komunitas Arab itu. Salah satunya adalah tradisi pernikahan, yang masih tetap dipertahankan oleh masyarakatnya. Tradisi ini terbentuk karena pandangan hidup komunitas Arab tentang pernikahan itu sendiri. Karena pernikahan berhubungan dengan “kemurnian” keturunan, maka tradisi pernikahan itu merupakan sesuatu yang sangat penting. Tradisi itu berkaitan dengan pelaksanaanya yang dilangsungkan “secara massal” dan hanya terjadi sekali dalam setahun. Dalam prosesi ini, ada beberapa ritual yang harus dipatuhi oleh sang mempelai. Ritual pernikahan ini berlangsung hampir tiga hari. Keywords: -marriage tradition, -Arab community, -Palembang
