Abstract

Pesbukers is the most favourite and most watched comedy program. Beside all the achievement that they got, Pesbukers have a lot of controversial issues such as putting verbal abuse in their content. Even though they have received several reprimands from KPI, Pesbukers still re-airing and still do not change the violent content in it. This research’s main problem is how verbal violence contents appears in the Pesbukers for one episode on February 12, 2019. In this study the author uses the Stuart Hall representation theory to see how Pesbukers represent violence. For this study verbal violence is analysed based on 4 categorizations, first is Insulting/harassing/demeaning certain community groups; second is Associating humans to animals/inanimate objects; third is Crude expressions/curse/threats; and last one is Insulting someone physically or body shaming. This study found 36 in total repetitions of verbal violence in just one episode. Keyword: representation, verbal violation, Pesbukers as a comedy program.

Abstract

Information regarding the implementation of the New Normal Era during the Covid-19 pandemic announced by President Joko Widodo has brought pros and cons. Tempo newspaper as a mass media raised the issue in the form of a caricature illustration on the front cover of Tempo newspaper on 27 May 2020. The purpose of this study is to explain the representation of the implementation of the New Normal Era in Tempo newspaper on 27 May 2020. This research was conducted using the method interviews and semiotic analysis proposed by Charles Sanders Pierce with qualitative research types and constructivist paradigms. The results of this study, Koran Tempo represents the application of the New Normal Era in the caricature illustration of the competition arena. there is a meaning contained in each caricature illustration, based on this Tempo has displayed the function of caricatures as a medium for delivering messages. Abstract

“Menjadi Bapak-Bapak: Bagian Pengantar – Revisi 2” is a group on Facebook that accomodates their members to interact each others like how a dad interact. This study purposes is to know and explain how the symbolic interactionism within the group’s member. This study is a descriptive-qualitative study which used Symbolic Interactionism theory by George Herbert Mead with its three main concept: ‘mind’, ‘self’ and ‘society’. The data in this study were collected using interview and documentation method. The study results show that the groups were founded to facilitate the members to can interact with “dad’s joke”, which is also being the symbols on this group. In ‘mind’ concept, the group members interprets dad’s jokes using cringe and unique typing style. In ‘self’ concepts, the group members build their own self concept through group interaction. In ‘society’ concepts, this group as a social network constructed by its members through their interaction. Keywords: Symbolic Interactionism, Mind, Self, Society

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to know the difference of framing made by Republika.co.id and Kompas.com. In this case about the draf law on eliminition of sexual violance. The researcher used Robert N Entman, and Gamson and Modigliani framing anylisis method. The researcher collecting data with relevant documents and obtain news from Republika.co.id and Kompas.com website. The results showed that both of the media found this issue important based from the selection of issues and assertion aspects. Both of the media keep include the problem solving and the reason why the ministry removed RUU PKS from Prolegnas Prioritas 2020. They also include related sources on the headlines that containing criticism and responses. Both media tell stories from both side, even though it is not directly reported in one news. Based on Gimson and Modigliani theory, republika.co.id seems to tend to use harsher word in the title compare to kompas.com. Abstract

Cigarette advertisements are packaged differently because of regulations regarding the broadcasting rules. Advertisers are required to be creative in making advertisements so that they do not violate the established regulations, by only displaying brand images without clearly showing their products. The images commonly displayed in cigarette advertisements are lifestyle, passion, and masculinity, but different from the usual version of Sampoerna A Mild advertisement, it was found to raise issues of social reality and criticize mass cultural deviations and social problems. This study uses a qualitative approach with descriptive methods and uses the semiotic theory of Charles Sanders Peirce, to find out the meaning of social criticism in the Sampoerna A Mild advertisement version of Bukan Main. The results of this study indicate that this advertisement criticizes three of the eight social problems that occur in the community, namely violations of norms, crime and also environmental problems. Abstract

Costumes, properties, and dance styles are so-called forms of non-verbal communication that contain meaningful symbol in each aspect. This subject can be seen from a traditional dance in Bali, Barong Brutuk Dance This research itself is aimed to comprehend the communication symbol that the dance holds. Barong Brutuk dance is chosen as the main subject of this study due to its peculiar meaning as well as values that Balinese from Trunyan. This research is condoned with the descriptive qualitative method that relies on Roland Barthes’s Semiotic theory. The result of this study that non-verbal communication is carried out throughout each move, costume, and property used in this dance. This dance manifests deeper meaning, some believe that it brings prosperity to the people of Desa Trunyan. From the costumes being worn by the elected carrier or the dancer, they deliver simplicity, and the properties shown displays a symbol of neutralized negativity Keywords : The Meaning of communication symbol, Semiotic, Barong Brutuk Dance.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Podcasts are on-demand audio files uploaded on the platform to be heard anytime and anywhere. Podcasts can currently be heard through the Spotify music streaming app with a wide variety of genres. The use of media by individuals is influenced by motives. This study aimed to find out what the motives and how the satisfaction of millennials in Denpasar in listening to podcasts through Spotify. The media consumption motives used in this study is Uses and Gratifications Theory forward by Papacharissi and Rubin. This study uses descriptive quantitative method with purposive sampling. Data were obtained by distributing questionnaires using Likert scale. The data analysis techniques used are descriptive statistics comparing the average score of motives and satisfaction. The results showed that there five motives that can be satisfied in listening podcast trough Spotify are information motive, utility motive, convenience motive, pass time motive, and entertainment motive. Abstract

Advertising is a marketing communication activity aimed at the public by using advertising as messages to promote goods, services, and ideas. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the advertisement of Indomie Ayam Geprek Hype Abis on the television. This study uses descriptive quantitative approach involving 120 respondents who were determined by purposive sampling. Data were collected using questionnaires distributed through google forms to capture respondents' perceptions and measured by Likert ScaIe. The data anaIysis technique in this study used EPIC (Empathy, Persuasion, Impact, Communication) Model. The results showed that the four dimensions of EPIC Model were in the range scale of effective. Among the four dimensions, it was found that the persuasion dimension got the lowest average value. Indomie company management is advised to develop advertising with more attention to the dimension of persuasion through emphasis on the advantages and benefits of the advertised product. Abstract

In this global era, social media has become part of people's daily lives, Twitter as an example. Twitter's popularity has increased since 2018, and a trend has emerged for the use of "Twitter, please do your magic”. The purpose of this study is to discover how Twitter as a social media affects the adolescent’s social sensitivity in Denpasar City. This study uses associative quantitative research methods using uses and effects as the theoretical base and involves up to 70 adolescent respondents. The data analyzed using simple linear regression. The result of this research indicate the level of exposure Twitter "Twitter please do your magic" on the adolescent’s social sensitivity in Denpasar City is in the medium range, but it is known to have a positive and significant influence value. Every increase detected in exposure of "Twitter please do your magic", the adolescent’s social sensitivity in Denpasar City will also increase. Abstract

Personal branding is how an individual represent their skills, ideas, and belief. A brand for public figure like young activist is important to be formed in order to gain sympathy and acceptance from the society. In this research, reasearcher wants to describe how young activist, Melati Wijsen formed and applied personal branding through social media instagram. This research used qualitative descriptive approach and analyzed using Peter F. Montoya’s Eight Laws Of Personal Branding. The result of this research shows that young activist, Melati Wijsen has a brand as an activist who is inspiring, consistent, hard working and humble. Melati Wijsen has successfully implemented Eight Laws Of Personal Branding in forming her brand, with The Law Of Leadership, The Law Of Personality, and The Law Of Visibility being the most stand out concept in forming her personal brand through social media instagram.
