Abstract

The progeny test activity aims to improve genetic quality and produce proven bulls for dairy cows. Evaluation of semen quality is one approach to determining bull fertility. This research determines the best candidate bull (CB) for the progeny test at National Artificial Insemination Center (NAIC) Singosari based on the quality of fresh semen and frozen semen production. The material used secondary data from the third period of the progeny test of three candidate bulls, namely Shoty, Doming, and Glens, from 2016 to 2020. Data were analyzed using descriptive analysis. The results showed that the volume, pH, mass movement, individual motility, and sperm concentration of Shoty, Doming, and Glen's fresh semen were 6.16±1.87; 7.61±1.89 and 7.68±1.86 mL, 6.50±0.17; 6.48±0.16 and 6.40±0.16, 2.21±0.41; 2.28±0.45 and 2.28±0.45, 72.43±0.05; 73.86±0.06 and 74.07±0.07%, and 938.80±287.90; 953.24±266.52 and 1144.72 ±307.47 106/mL. Frozen semen production of Shoty, Doming, and Glens were 234.68±108.00, 294.80±114.76, and 357.25±146.29 straws. In conclusion, the quality of fresh semen and frozen semen production of the three candidate bulls was relatively high, and the best CB is Glens, followed by Doming and Shoty. Abstract

Coastal areas and small islands in Indonesia, reaching approximately 17,000 islands, will be directly affected by increasing sea levels, seawater intrusion, and salinization. This paper provides insight into salinity and its effect to plant, saline-tolerant animal feed crops' characteristics, adaptation mechanisms, and some proposed strategies to deal with salinity issues. This research was conducted through literature study and data were analyzed descriptively. Salinity affects the photosynthesis process, thereby decreasing the net Photosynthetic Rate (Pn), the stomatal aperture, Fv/Fm (efficient quantum), and quantum yield (light intensity/rate of photosynthesis). Salt-stressed plants can be seen from the severity by measuring the levels of Cl and Na in the roots, leaves, and chlorophyll. Plant tolerance to salinity is divided into two groups: glycophytes that are tolerant of low salt levels and halophytes that are tolerant of high salts. Salinity inhibits cell enlargement and division, increases plant mass, and increases protein and nucleic acid production. The plant adapts to saline stress, including osmotic adjustment, stress protein, free radical oxidative species (ROS) removal, ABA synthesis, and cross-adaptation. Increasing the productivity of animal feed in saline areas could be achieved in various ways by modifying water, land, chemical and biological properties, and farmer habits.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of using tris diluent with purple sweet potato extract added as a diluent and its effect on maintaining the motility and viability of spermatozoa of Etawah crossbreed goats. Semen was collected using an artificial vaginal method and evaluated macroscopically and microscopically. The study used a completely randomized design (CRD) with four treatments and five replications consisting of 80% tris + 20% egg yolk as control (P0), 79% tris + 20% egg yolk + 1% purple sweet potato extract (P1). , tris 77% + egg yolk 20% + purple sweet potato extract 3% (P2), tris 75% + egg yolk 20% + purple sweet potato extract 5% (P3), tris 73% + egg yolk 20% + purple sweet potato extract 7% (P4). Semen was preserved and evaluated for motility and viability every 24 hours and stored at 3-5℃ until motility was at least 40%. The characteristics of fresh Etawah crossbreed goat semen were volume 1 ml, concentration 5.553 million/ml, motility 80%, viability 85.5%, and abnormality 4.7%. Abstract

This study analyzes the macronutrient levels produced from solid organic fertilizer made from dairy cows and laying hens and tests the effectiveness of fertilizer on land kangkong (Ipomoea reptans Poir) grown on latosol soil. The decomposition of feces into solid organic fertilizer was carried out using local microorganisms made from cattle rumen. Experiments were carried out using the repeated measures ANOVA method to observe the kinetics of pH and composting temperature from the first to the 30th day. The composition of 55% dairy cow feces and 45% laying hen feces in solid organic fertilizer can influence pH and temperature kinetics during the composting process. The first factor is the fertilizer composition of 100% dairy cow feces (S100), 85% dairy cow feces and 15% laying hen feces (S85A15), 70% dairy cow feces and laying hen feces (S70A30), 55% dairy cow feces and 45% laying hen feces (S55A45). The second factor is 5 and 10 tons/ha fertilizer dose. Using 100% dairy cow feces at a dose of 10 tons/ha affected the fresh biomass of land kangkong plants and significantly differed from other treatments (P < 0.05) based on a 5% BNJ follow-up test. It can be concluded that using dairy cow feces as much as 100% in the manufacture of solid organic fertilizer can increase the productivity of fresh biomass of land kangkong, which is highest at 30.22 g. Abstract

Transfersome has been commonly used to increase the penetration of drugs derived from natural ingredients. Propolis is a natural ingredient with many benefits, such as antimicrobial, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, antitumor, antioxidant, and anticancer. In various in vitro studies, propolis showed proapoptotic activity in cancer cells. Gelatin is a chemical compound that can be used as an emulsifier because it has a hydrophobic part in the peptide chain. This study aimed to determine the optimal gelatin content based on physical tests as an emulsifier in the manufacture of emulsions for transfersome cream ingredients. The research method used was an experimental laboratory with 6 gelatin concentration treatments, namely 1% (P1), 2% (P2), 3% (P3), 4% (P4), 5% (P5), and 6% (P6) with 3 replicates. Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effect of dietary inclusion of red ginger extract (Zingiber officinale var. rubrum) on total coliform of intestinal bacteria, digestibility, and performance of broiler quail. A total of 100 unsexed broiler quail were randomly assigned into five groups of treatment with four replications (5 quail each). Dietary treatments applied were P0 = basal feed + 0 mg/kg red ginger extract ; P1 = basal feed + 500 mg/kg red ginger extract; P2 = basal feed + 750 mg/kg red ginger extract; P3 = basal feed + 1000 mg/kg red ginger extract and P4 = basal feed + 4000 mg/kg tetracycline. Experimental feed were given to quail after 2 to 6 weeks old. Data were analyzed to test of variance and followed by Duncan test. The results reveal that the supplemented of red ginger extract in the feed had a significant effect (P<0.05) on total coliform bacteria in the quail intestine and nutrient digestibility, but did not have a significant effect (P>0.05) on growth performance. In conclusion, red ginger extract has a positive effect on total coliform of intestinal bacteria and nutrient digestibility but has no significant effect on growth performance broiler quail.

Abstract

Synthetic dyes used in the leather dyeing process contain allergenic and carcinogenic compounds. Natural dyes sourced from wood industry waste, namely mahogany sawdust can be a substitute for synthetic dyes with the advantages of being more economical, minimizing waste, and relatively safe for the environment. This study aims to determine the effect of the comparison of mahogany sawdust with hot water solvent and the duration of dyeing time on the characteristics of the extract and the best results of dyeing application on crust goat leather, using a Completely Randomized Factorial Design with 2 (two) factors and 3 (three) levels respectively. The first factor is the ratio of mahogany sawdust with solvent during Extraction, 1:5; 1:10 and 1:15 (w/v) and the second factor is the duration of dyeing time, 60, 90 and 120 minutes, each with two repetitions. Data analysis used ANOVA analysis of variance. This research activity resulted in a comparison of mahogany sawdust and water solvent with the best duration of dyeing time in producing colored goat leather products with the criteria of color absorption, rub fastness (wet and dry) and color shading. The results showed the analysis of the highest extract tannin content was 7,66 µg/mL at 1:5 (w/v) extract. The highest color absorption was in the dye extract 1:5 (w/v) and the lowest was in the dye extract 1:15(w/v), both at 60 minutes, 90 minutes, and 120 minutes. All natural dyes from mahogany sawdust showed good color fastness values with a scale above 3/5. The visual result of the dyeing process is reddish brown. Abstract

Egg powder is widely used in various industries, but the fat content in the egg yolks makes egg yolks powder more easily rancid due to oxidation. One way to inhibit the oxidation reaction of compounds is by adding antioxidants such as carrots. This research aims to evaluate the physicochemical properties, organoleptic properties, and antioxidant activity of egg yolk powder with the addition of carrot puree and isolated soy protein (ISP). The experimental design used in this study was a randomized block design (RBD) based on the manufacturing period, there were three groups of manufacturing periods. The results showed that adding carrot puree and ISP resulted in higher crude protein content and fiber content of egg yolk powder with the color and texture quality criteria preferred by the panelists. The addition of carrot puree and ISP did not affect the water content, pH, aw, and crude fat content. The addition of carrot puree in lower antioxidant activity than the control. Egg yolk powder with the addition of 15% carrot puree and 10% ISP gave the best results for the analysis of physicochemical properties, organoleptic properties, and antioxidant activity. Abstract

This study evaluated the effect of cellulase enzymes addition to a rice bran tempeh-containing diet on performance, body dimension, and carcass quality. Two hundred broilers aged 15 days were divided into 4 treatment groups of 5 replications each, as follows: P1=20% rice bran tempeh plus 0% cellulase; P2 =20% rice bran tempeh plus 0.05% cellulase; P3=20% rice bran tempeh plus 0.1% cellulase, and P4=20% rice bran tempeh plus 0.15% cellulase. Abstract

Green tea is widely consumed by the people of Indonesia as a beverage or processed food. Green tea dregs contain antioxidant compounds that have many pharmacological properties. On the other hands, green tea dregs contain tannin which can reduce digestibility so that further processing needs to be done by fermenting so that the digestibility increases. Fermented green tea dregs combined with probiotic Lactobacillus sp. is thought to be able to have a more significant impact on the growth of livestock and their products. The aim of this study was to examine the effect of adding a combination of fermented green tea dregs (ATHF) and probiotic Lactobacillus sp. in the ration on the chemical quality of Cihateup duck meat. The study was conducted experimentally using 60 Cihateup ducks which were randomly grouped into 4 groups of feed treatment as follows: T1 (100% basal feed/0% ATHF), T2 (PB + 1% ATHF + 3% probiotics), T3 (PB + 2% ATHF + 2% Probiotic) and T4 (PB + 3% ATHF + 1% Probiotic). The parameters of this study were the chemical quality of Cihateup duck meat which consisted of water content, protein content and fat content. The results showed that the addition of a combination of ATHF and probiotic Lactobacillus sp. significant effect (P<0.05) on the protein content and fat content of meat, while the water content parameter has no significant effect (P>0.05). T2 treatment produced the highest meat protein content and T1 treatment resulted in lower meat fat content than other treatments.
