Forum Geografi, Indonesian Journal of Spatial and Regional Analysis (For. Geo) is an open access, peer-reviewed journal that will consider any original scientific article for expanding the field of geography. The journal publishes articles in both physical and human geography specialties of interest to spatial analysis and regional analysis in (but not limited) Indonesia by applying GIS and/or remote sensing techniques.

This paper aims to explain the inter relationship between urbanization and slum and squatter settlement phenomena in urban areas, focusing on two cases in Jakarta and Yogyakarta. Marginality theory and dependence theory are to explain the two phenomena above, because these theories have different assumption and different explanations about slum areas. Thus, the solutions offered are different too. The result of Tadjuddin and Taylor research into the slum and squatter settlement in Yogyakarta and Jakarta suggest that the phenomena of the slum settlement in this cities could not be explained by a single theory, either marginality theory or dependence theory.

Geomorphology as a part of earth sciences has a already known for along time, however the development and application is relatively slow, especially in Indonesia. There is a tendency that the concept as well as the application of geomprphology will increase rapidly. The aims of this paper are to discuss the concept of geomorphology. The role of geomorphology in the physical geography studies and its application research activities. Geomorphology deal with land form as subject of study and stressed on relief, processes, materials (lithology and its structure), and chronology has important role in the physical geography. Geomorphology be able to support of other sciences related to physical environment such as geology, pedology, hydrology, and archaelogy. In the practical application, geomorphology can be used in engineering purposed and regional development planning. In the research activities geomorphology can be used as basic frame work to determine sample areas, and also can be used as frame work to land resources evaluation with land form unit as land mapping unit or evaluation unit.Â

On the development of regions, whatever they are cannot be separated from the planning stage before the development stage it self. This paper aims to investigate the role of artography, in relation with the study of regional development, especially in relation with the preparation of map types that are relevant and need for both planning and regional development processes. Planners have agreed that maps are highly neede in the planning process, but much is still debated as to ways of presentation, contents of theme, and suitable scala for planning purposed. There are two groups of maps neede by planners, i.e. status maps that are neede before planning and maps that are neede during the planning process. The selection of how much information needed to be drawn on maps for the aims of regional planning, is a difficult problem to solve and also challenge for us, especially geographers. This paper is only a desription of our contribution of thoughts, not based on any research, but is a compilation from various source/ideas, particularly from cartographer who are experienced in their new field, i.e. âRegional Planning Cartographyâ.

Approach on the study of rural service development is often confused with general regional development study in which both development indicators are interchanged. However the two study are closely related and able to contribute one to another. A confusion also exist in the setting up of the concepts of social services, economic services, and infrastructures functions. As such, the study of service development should have a great care of the study implication in which sectoral action planning should follow up. This article tries to present an operational approach on the rural service development with an ilustrative case study of Yogyakarta Special Region.

Recently, the long term development in Indonesia has changed agricultural sector to the industrial sector. This development can apparently harm our own people. This is due to the waste that is produced from factories. The waste from various factories seems to have different characteristics. This defference encourages us to be able to find out different of methods of managing waste so that cost can be reduced, especially in water treatment. In order that industrial development and environmental preservation can run together in balance, many institutions involved should be consider, especially in the industrial chain, the environment, and human resource, these three elements can be examined in terms of their tolerance to waste.

Nowadays, the comprehensive and integrated rural development concept has been considered as the right approach in order to combat the root of rural poverty. By its main concern on area planning, i. e. the availability of planning apparatus at local (regional) level, comprehensive local (rural) resource analysis, and multi-disciplinary approach, it is expected that the weakneses of centralized planning which, among others, concentrates on economic growth can be reduced or even eliminated. This paper tries to explain the place of social service planning in the rural development concept above. The approach used is by discussing the place of service planning in the national development policies; collective decision making system, especially related to planning procedure and process; and social service problems in rural areas.Â

The aim of this reseach are two fold. The first it to clasify and evaluate the surface crosivity and the second is to map the erosivity hazard. The final yield is a map of ... - ... in 1 : 50.000. the classification of surface erosivity is based on top soil loss maximum using the Universal Soil Loss Equation (USLE) of Wischmeir and Smith Method; that is executed on every unit of land. Land unit is detected through interpretation of false colour I.R. air photograph images, shot in 1981/ 1982, scale 1 : 50.000. The classification fields the following data : erosity intensity is 6,687.5 hm (26.78 percent) is ultimate low; 2,962.5 hm (11.86 percent) is low; 5,025.0 hm (20.12 percent) is medium 5,025.0 hm (20.12 percent) is medium 287.5 hm (1.15 percent) is high, while the in habited area has 4,637 hm (18.57 percent) or classified as a very low intensity.

This reseach is excecuted in Sidokarto village Godean Subdistrial, Kabupaten Sleman, special province of Yogyakarta, and is derived from the question of how rural community uses formal and in-formal failities of lend institution (credits source) that are available in their villages. Are the debts affecting the income of rural community? The aim of this research is to find out the back ground of rural community life, public choice to decide creditor, and the income of family holder. Methodology applied in the research is a surveying methode. The seletion of the region was executed in purposive sampling tehnique and the respondents were randomly selected. The respondents were the heads of family as debtors who have taken the credit from either government or private. Analysis used in this research was frequency tabulation, cross tabulation and analysis of correlation is done by using product moment technique. The result proved that most of the debtors (more than 50%) are non peasant with low-rank education (passed and dropped out of elementary schools). Among the debtors, the greater part (93.55%), have used the formal merits i.e. KUD and BRI. Debtors choice of lend institution is in fluenced by aspect of location and the ease of service. It is proved that the more debtors live near to the lend institution, the quality of the debtors will increase. The reason why credit source is used is influenced by the question whether it is easy or not to get the debt, without taking notice of rent, although it is low enough. The result also proved that, for the greater part of debtors have used the debt money to increase the capital for non agricultural ativities.

The information of rain water quality in Indonesia is rarely recorded, where as it is important for the region in which the source of fresh water is unavailable. Rain water composition is mostly ascertained by water vapour and ions which are available in the atmosphere during vapouration. In fact the rain water composition of coast region is sea water like and rain water chemical composition of urban are then become HNO3 and HSO4, while rain water of active vulcanic region eventuality has a high sulphur-wombed so that its quality sulphuric-acid. For the region in which the source of fresh water is unavailable the rain water is previously sterilized. Sterilization is consecutively done by adding salts, killing all bacteria, spores, and filltering.
