EMPIRISMA (P-ISSN: 1829-9563, E-ISSN: 2503-1694) is a peer-reviewed journal affiliated with the Department of Religious Studies, Faculty of Ushuluddin and Social Sciences, State College for Islamic Studies (STAIN) Kediri. It mainly focuses on religious studies under three main categories: religion and theology, religion and contemporary issues, and religion and sacred texts. To reach wider audience and readership, articles in this journal are using two main languages: Indonesian and English. All the submitted articles are blindly peer-reviewed and carefully edited according to academic standards. This journal is published biannually in January and July.

Abstract

Shame (malu in Indonesia or malo in Madura) is closely related to pride for Madurese people. Malo is frequently become postulate to make a deal with violence which is known by carok or fight using weapons to recover that pride. For that, it is necessary to discuss how that exactly the meaning construction of malo for Madurese people is and how that malo creates social ethic and religion in Madura. This study used a qualitative approach with the constructive paradigm, and its technique used visible observation, in-depth interview, documentation and library research. Result of this study showed that malo is such a kind of expression for Madurese people to defend their reputation and pride. All kind of defenses will be taken in order to prevent this malo, even if it is an extreme act which leads to death. This coincides with Madurese philosophy as ca’oca’ which stated that “Better to die than live to bear malo”. The big problem will usually occur if this malo was bothered by religious friction and offends the family honor. This malo is a logic consequence as social and religious ethic around Madurese people. Therefore, malo then forms a mindset and gives a positive lifestyle by maintaining social and religiousethic, in order to honor a pride value and human right.Keywords: The meaning construction, malo, ca’oca’, Madurese culture.Abstrak

Abstract

Di dunia Arab-Islam, misalnya sejak abad ke-19 kaum muslimin telah mengalami berbagai persoalan serius sebagai akibat dari hegemoni politik, ekonomi, dan budaya yang ditancapkan bangsa Eropa. Hal itu memaksa kaum muslimin untuk bersandar pada agamadi dalam mengembangkan suatu ideologi perjuangan. Pengalaman sejarah di masa lalu masih saja meninggalkan trauma yang mendalam terhadap umat Islam di berbagaikawasan, bahkan setelah mereka mencapai kemerdekaan. Sebagai akibatnya, merekasering memahami dan menggunakan agama (Islam) sebagai tujuan politik dan ideologi,terutama dalam menolak dan mengembangkan sikap eksklusif mereka terhadap dunia Barat. Selain itu, umat muslim juga masih banyak yang menggunakan Islam sekedar sebagai kekuatan mitologis, sosial, dan historis untuk mencapai tujuan politik tertentu. Jika demikian, dapat dikatakan masih ada umat Islam yang memiliki pandangan bahwa tidaklah penting untuk memikirkan dan menjadikan Islam sebagai agama yang mampu menghadapi tantangan dari masyarakat muslim sendiri.

Abstract

Argumentasi merupakan salah satu teknik yang terbaik dalam menyampaikan pesan dakwah, para nabi bahkan Allah SWT dalam menyampaikan Firnan-Nya banyak menggunakan teknik argumentasi baik melalui perbandingan, pertentangan, persamaan, sebab dan akibat, genus dan definisi, keadaan atau sirkumstansi dan kesaksian atau autoritas. Keunggulan teknik argumentasi digunakan sebagai cara penyampaian pesan dakwah dapat memengaruhi kepercayaan mad’u agar sepakat, meyakini, dan mau mengikuti kehendak da’i. Selain itu, melalui argumentasi kebenaran Islam lebih dapat dipertanggungjawabkan dan menunjukkan da’i memiliki keluasan ilmu Islam. Tujuan tulisan ini ingin mengetahui elemen, teknik dan pola argumentasi Husein Ja’farAl-Hadar dalam diskusi Ketaatan pada Orang Tua bersama Tretan Muslim. Studi ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif melalui tinjauan teori argumentasi. Hasil kajian tulisan ini menunjukkan elemen, teknik dan pola menurut Gorys Keraf dan Toulmin adalah: a) Elemen argumentasi yang digunakan oleh Habib Ja’far terdiri dari claim, datum, dan warrant, sedangkan elemen backing, modal qualifier, dan rebuttal tidak banyak dipergunakan. b) Teknik argumentasi yang digunakan oleh Habib Ja’far meliputi teknik genus dan definisi, teknik perbandingan, teknik persamaan, teknik sebab akibat, dan teknik kesaksian dan autoritas. c) Pola argumentasi yang digunakan oleh Habib Ja’far dominan menggunakan model ke-3 yang memiliki struktur elemen dari claim, datum, dan warrant.Kata kunci: Teknik argumentasi, Habib Ja’far dan Tretan Muslim, Ketaatan pada Orang tua

Abstract

The prophet Lut was one of the prophets whom Allah told several times in al-Qur’an. In the same story, there are indications that Allah tells the story over and over again with a different intrinsic element. Findings about the similarities and differences in the intrinsic elements in the telling of the story of the Prophet Lut will be useful for the process of interpreting al-Qur’an specifically to understand the context of the Prophet Lut’s story.In addition, comparative research so far is in the form of intertextual studies, there has not been any research on the comparison of the intrinsic elements of the same story but it is repeated. So this paper will compare the intrinsic elements of the story of the Prophet Lut between letters in al-Quran. Using intrinsic element theory, namely identifying the plot, characterization, setting, point of view and theme of each letter that tells the storyof the Prophet Lut and then comparing them. With a qualitative approach from the source of al-Qur’an. The results show that differences occur in the plot, characterization, and setting. But the same is the theme and perspective. The differences occur not because the stories in al-Qur’an are contradictory, but because there are variations in the instrumental elements that serve to provide beauty, emphasis and psychological effects. For the interpretation of the verse of the story, in addition to understanding the meaning of the text, context, related science, and development science, it is also necessary to understand the intrinsic elements of the story because the differences in the presentation of the intrinsic elements are related to the intent of the message to be conveyed in the verse.Keywords: Comparison of Story, Intrinsic Elements, The Story of the Prophet Lut

Abstract

In this study, the researcher seeks to see the extent of the potential for conflicts with ideological backgrounds carried out by former HTI members due to their efforts to hegemony political and religious actions in the City of Kediri. The form of research used in this research is field research. Field research is a type of research oriented to the collection of empirical data in the field. Testing the data in this study using transferability analysis. Testing this data is a modification of external validity in qualitative research. The research that has been carried out has shown that in the City of Kediri the infiltration of former HTI is not much different from the initial goal of establishing HTI, namely preaching Islam by propagating the establishment of a caliphate (pan-Islamism)internationally and the enforcement of sharia law for all mankind. The movements of former HTI members in Kediri City are indeed banned from their activities by the Government, but the fact is that their ideology is still alive in Kediri City. This received a different response from NU and Muhammadiyah in Kediri. NU City of Kediri is the most vocal organization in preventing the growth and development of HTI ideology to revive in the City of Kediri. Meanwhile, Muhammadiyah of Kediri City is more lenient in dealing with the ideology of the former HTI member. Abstract

Human nature is a material object of the many developing sciences. This article will focuses on the discussion of human being in terms of existentialism which will be compared between western philosophy and Islamic philosophy. As a limitation, this paper will only discuss Jean-Paul Sartre and Gabriel Marcel from the west tradition and Mulla Sadra and Muhammad Iqbal from the Islamic tradition. This selection is based on thecloseness of their thoughts so that comparisons can be made that are anthropocentric because other philosophers, especially in Islamic tradition, prioritized theological views. This paper finds out that the west and Islam tought tradition, human philosophy has different perspectives and thus has very different ideas. Western philosophy tends to depart from the view of humans as humans themselves or in other words their existence as humans. Meanwhile, Islamic philosophy talks more about human being starting from the view of their relationship with God, although in its development there was a shift towards anthropocentrism. However, the thoughts of the four figures above intersect on the aspect of human being in relation to others. The results of the discussion in this paper shows that it is understood that the western version of philosophical thinking about the relationship between humans and other people emphasizes the rationality and emotional aspects rather than the spiritualprophetic aspects as found in Islamic existentialism.Keywords: Human Being, West-Islam, Rational-Emotional, Spiritual-Profeti
