Abstract

This paper focuses on pronoun, methaphore, and metonymy, and cadency to Bush’s discourse, arguably one of the most compelling and contentious issues in rhetorical analysis. It explores the relationship between language and concepts of ideology and power in the linguistic practices of contemporary society through a critique of a critical discourse analysis (CDA) approach to linguistic enquiry, as evidenced in a study and brief review of one of its major practitioners, Norman Fairclough and Ruth Wodak. Essential differences with other mainstream linguistic approaches are emphasized in exploring and explaining the social basis of the ideological and power dimensions that underpin discourse in society, especially speech given by some one. It is maintained that the development of a critical linguistic awareness, which informs a capacity to resist and change exploitative and dominating linguistic practices, is an issue which should be of importance to everyone with a concern and interest in the problems of our contemporary society.

Abstract

Arabic has an important position in Islamic studies, in the development of Arabic, the language al-Qur'ân can be classified into classical Arabic, the language al-Qur'ân which developed into a literary language since the 7th century AD. Thanks to the altitude of the language al-Qur'ân precisely then that the experts make the standardization of the Arabic language is academic in the 3rd century H (9 M) and 4 H (10 M). Abstract

Functional Grammar describes grammar in functional terms in which a language is interpreted as a system of meanings. The language system consists of three macro-functions known as meta-functional components: the interpersonal function, the ideational function, and the textual function, all of which make a contribution to the structure of a text. The concepts discussed in Functional Grammar aims at giving contribution to the understanding of a text and evaluation of a text, which can be applied for text analysis. Using the concepts in Functional Grammar, English teachers may help the students learn how various grammatical features and grammatical systems are used in written texts so that they can read and write better.

Abstract

Paparan data deskriptif ini didasarkan pada anggapan bahwa bahasa merupakan alat komunikasi dalam berinteraksi sehari-hari. Ucapan seseorang sangat ditentukan oleh kemampuan ilmu pengetahuan yang dimiliki. Bahasa Madura yang digunakan oleh masyarakat Madura sangatlah beraneka ragam ucapan bahasanya dari satu daerah ke daerah yang lain. Adanya perbedaan yang beragam warnanya hanyalah varian bahasa saja, yang dimiliki tiap-tiap dialek Bahasa Madura baik dialek Pamekasan, Sumenep maupun dialek Bangkalan.Variasi ucapan bahasa Madura dialek Pamekasan, terjadi pada masyarakat perkotaan dan masyarakat perdesaan. Tindak tutur masyarakat perdesaan cenderung bersifat tradisional murni asli tindak tutur bahasa Madura. Sedangkan tindak tutur masyarakat perkotaan cenderung bersifat modern. Dalam karya studi kasus ini saya mencoba untuk mendeskripsikan varian bahasa dialek Pamekasan yang digunakan oleh masyarakat desa dan masyarakat kota yang tinggal di Kabupaten Pamekasan.

Abstract

Based on Bram Stoker’s novel entitled Dracula translated by Mrs. Suwarni A.S., this paper tries to reveal fantasy and psychoanalysis through the elements of the novel such as theme, characters, and setting. The major characters of the novel are Van Helsing, Jonathan Harker, Mina Harker, Dr. Seward, Lucy Westenra, Quency Morris, and Arthur Holmwood. This paper is focusing on the elements of fantasy and anxiety, by observing the characters above. psychoanalysis centers on the unconsciousness along with anxiety and survival mechanism as the main discussion. This paper will hopefully be a kind of a shortcut to provide a small-scale coverage of such both psychoanalysis study and fantasy as well upon the novel characters.

Abstract

The change of social structure is indicated by the change of family structure traditional family structure to modern one. Any kinds of family structure need its members knowledge, understanding, loyality bound, and tolerance. This article is about to describe local wisdom found in Madurese literature, particularly how it is applied in daily life. It shows that the member of family must posess knowledge how to manage social life effectively. Furthermore, a family requires a local wisdom to realize it. In brief, knowledge and local wisdom play an importan role in a modern family structure.

Abstract

Penggunaan label internasional akhir-akhir ini ikut merambah ke institusi pendidikan dan menjadi salah satu kebanggaan. Hal tersebut mengakibatkan krisis nasionalisme dan minimnya kesadaran historis anak bangsa serta menjadi semacam “penyakit” sosial yang jika tidak disikapi dengan penuh kewaspadaan akan berdampak luas. Sistem pendidikan pondok pesantren dengan pengantar bahasa Arab dapat menjadi tawaran solusi alternatif bagi kebangkitan ruh nasionalisme dan kesadaran historis bangsa Indonesia.
