Abstract

Child sexual abuse is a worldwide problem. Although most studies on the longterm consequences of child sexual abuse have focused on women, sexual abuse of both boys and girls is common. Peer sexual abuse in schools was an often overlooked problem that contributes to a hostile school environment: one major study found that 85% of girls and 76% of boys reported experiencing some form of sexual abuse in school. 85% of child sexual abuse is committed by relatives, close family friend or an adult that the child knows and trusts. The childhood sexual abuse variables taken into account are commonly age of onset, duration, abuse forms and relationship between the child and the perpetrator. The objective of this study was to gather information or opinion about sexual abuse concept, methods and media of the elementary students, parents, teachers and experts. A qualitative study, involving one to one interviews, was conducted with 7 experts, focus group discussion with 40 elementary students, and with 40 parents in Yogyakarta district about child sexual abuse issues. Data were analysed according to Miles and Huberman’s data reduction, data display and conclusion verification process. These findings strongly indicate that boys and girls are vulnerable to this form of childhood sexual abuse ; the similarity in the likelihood for multiple behavioral, mental and social outcomes among men and women suggest the need to identify and treat all adults affected by child sexual abuse. Themes related to the child sexual abuse were: paperwork design, good facilitator, guidelines for students, parents and teachers. Students prefer media that can help them understand concept with komik paperwork as media for early prevention. Parents, teachers and experts prefer that this prevention program can run as soon. With careful paperwork design and evaluation of prevention program, the success of program implementation can be enhanced.

Abstract

This study was aimed to analyze the correlation between adaptive coping and emotional intelligence (EI). The subject of this study (N=69) are high school students in SMU Negeri 8 Yogyakarta, whose age ranged from 15 to 17 years old. Adaptive coping is measured by adaptive coping scale, and EI is measured by EI scale. Researcher developed both scale. Data was analyzed using Pearson’s product moment correlation. Results show that there are: positive correlation between EI and problem focused coping (PFC) part I (r=0,302; p=0,006), negative correlation between EI and emotional focused coping (EFC) and confrontative coping (CC) part I (r=‐0,322; p=0,004), and negative correlation between EI and PFC and CC part II (r=‐0,366; p=0,001). Spearman’s test correlation used to analyze correlation between EI and EPC part II, because this correlation did not meet linearity assumption. Spearman’s test correlation show that there is no correlation between EI and EPC part II (p=0,337). Based on these minor hypothesis, it is concluded that generally there is correlation between EI and adaptive coping ability.

Abstract

It has been speculated that conflicting results demonstrated across poststroke or brain damage aphasia therapy studies might be related to differences in intensity of therapy provided across studies. This study provides a meta analitic review of the role intensity of aphasia therapy on aphasia recovery when the findings aggregated across studies. The aim of the study is to investigate the relationship between intensity of aphasia therapy and aphasia recovery. It was found that after sampling error correction was r=0.201. These finding indicates that intensity of therapy aphasia have roles in recovery. Changes in mean scores from each study were recorded. Intensity of therapy was recorded in terms of length of therapy and hours of therapy provided per week. This study conclusion intense therapy over a short amount of time can improve outcomes of speech and language therapy for aphasia.

Abstract

This study examined the effectivity of the anger management program for reducing aggression in risk‘s adolescents. Through the cognitive‐behavioral approach, the program was designed to process the cognitive, affective, and behavior aspects together for managing anger and facing the provocative situation without aggression. Fourteen participants in experimental group following eigth sessions of anger management program in 4 weeks, and 14 participants in control group do not obtain any treatment. The measurement of aggression to be held before the program start and a week after the program end. With the Anava Mixed Design, the result show that the anger management program have a significant effect in the changes of the participant’s aggression [F(1,22)=6.300, p<0.05, η 2 =0.06]. The changes of aggression in experimental group prove that the anger management program has practical meaningfull and useful for reduce the aggression in youth. In the other hand, the higher aggression at post‐test in control group prove that the aggression will be increased if there was no treatment for the adolescents with the high‐rate of anger. Future studies with larger samples may be able to detect the significant contributions of the anger management program for reducing aggressive behavior in youth.

Personal experience variable consist of work experience and educational experience that was analyzed independently as two variables. The subject of this study (N=70) are construction workers in the rehabilitation project of Amongrogo, in Yogyakarta. Multiple regressions is used for data analyzing. The result indicate the significant effect of both safety climate and personal experience toward safety compliance, particularly in the use of PPE (R 2= .253; p<.05). The coefficient of determination is .253 indicating that both safety climate and personal experience result together 25.3% effective contribution for safety compliance. Safety climate itself results 7.8%, while personal experience results 17.5% effective contribution for safety compliance. There are only three dimensions of safety climate, from sixth dimensions being examined, that have significant effect to safety compliance, which are supervisor safety practices, safety attitude, and safety training dimension. Abstract

This article presents a meta‐analysis of the experimental and survey literature that has examined the effect of self regulated learning strategies on academic achievement. The result of meta analysis on 14 effects sizes from 3899 subjects show that self regulated learning strategies is positively correlated to academic achievement (r = 0.26). The difference in variance of correlation can, among others, be caused by sampling error (4.63%) and error in measurement of independent as well as dependent variables (4.44%). This small percentage shows that error deviation probably caused by sampling error and error in measurement of independent and dependent variables was very small. Result indicated that self regulated learning strategies positively influence students’ academic achievement.
