Abstract

Muslims Classical interpretation is no longer considered relevant to the epoch and Muslims today. A theory that considered to be capable of responding to the needs of current times is hermeneutics. One of the figures who uses these theories is Hasan Hanafi. He saw the works of the classical interpreters cannot answer the problems of mankind today caused by the invalidity of their methods which have two major faults, which are orientation and epistemological. He offers a hermeneutical approach to address these two issues. He did this by using the social theory and phenomenology of Edmund Husserl when reading the text of the Qur’an. Social approach intends not only to follow the context of the text, but instead, the reality of deducing the meaning of the text. The theory of Phenomenology gives more freedom for the interpreter to read the text

Abstract

Contemporary Quranic studies have become popular amongst Muslim scholars in the world by using new methods. Among them is Nasr Hamid Abu Zayd, the professor of Arabic literature from Egypt. He is famous for his concept of the Qur’an Muntaj Thaqafi (cultural products) and the Qur’an Muntij Thaqafi (cultural producers). His concept begins with historicism phenomenologys in understanding the process of revelation of the Qur’an. The impact of this is that, the holy text and meaning of the Qur’an as verbum dei (Kalâmullah) is changed to mere cultural products, it means the text of the Qur’an formed by it’s interaction with the socio-culture, that it was revealed in for 20 years. This paper will provide an explanation of what the concept of Nasr Hamid’s genealogy.

Abstract

The authenticity of Qur'an is maintained by transmission isnad from generation to generation continuously, the authenticity of Qur’an is preserued. Hence, there’re additional commentary written by the Sahabah or Companions of the Prophet. However, their additional commentaries do not decrease the authenticity of Qur’an in any way, because the text or the writing refers to qirâ’ah, and not to the contrary of the Qur’an. According to Ignaz Goldziher, he said that all problematic discourses about qirâ’ah such as ahrûf al-sab’ah, qirâ’ah al-sab’ah, and qirâ’ah syadzah, impact on the various ways of reading or different qirâ’ah implemanted. Thus becoming his reason to question the authenticity of Qur’an. A scientific research is needed to show that Qur’an is absolutely affirmed and beyond in regards to it’s authenticity as a response toward Ignaz Goldziher’s claim.

Abstract

Ta’wîl has come into Islamic discourse due to the fact that there’re some words of some verses in the Holy Qur’an which have double-meaning. They’re known as mutasyâbihât verses. Thus, ta’wîl could be a specific meaning or another similar term for tafsir. The problem arises when hermeneutics is applied as ta’wîl. It doesn’t come from Islamic tradition. Simply, ta’wîl is distinctly different from hermeneutics because ta’wîl itself is applied based on tafsir method which stands on Qur’anic words. Besides, ta’wîl is oriented towards stating the exact meaning, while understanding by hermeneutics could change of fluctuate according to ‛ongoing process‛ or due to human progress, then the understanding or the meaning will be relative. Moreover, it is known from its historical background that hermeneutics has been originated from Western tradition which has some problems related to the Biblical texts.

Abstract

Lately, the issues relating to gender equality are being hotly discussed. One the indicators of this is the legalization effort of RUU-KKG in the law of the State. This issue was raised because the Feminists see that there is an imbalance in rotes between women and men, as well as in the realm of social, political, economic, and households. This patriarchal culture engenders women to always be under-emphasized in their status and positions in these fields. Al-Qur’an itself equates to both in carrying out tasks in life. This paper will examine whether the issues in regards to gender equality in the Qur’an amounts to absolute equality or equality that not necessarily takes the same form.
