Abstract

This study aimed to examine the association between social support and burden of care among parents of children with special needs. Data were collected using the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS) to measure perceived social support and the Burden Scale for Family Caregivers (BSFC) to measure perceived burden of care. The analysis utilized the Pearson’s correlation technique. Results indicated significant association between social support and burden of care. This finding highlights the importance of support from family, friends, and significant others in the management of perceived burden of care among parents of children with special needs.

Abstract

Psychological well-being has an important role in achieving academic success. However, the psychological well-being of college students tends to decrease as the years of study increase. This study aims to determine whether there is a correlation between academic hardiness and student psychological well-being. Quantitative research with a cross-sectional design was conducted on 148 students at Airlangga University. The Revised Academic Hardiness Scale and Javanese Psychological Well-Being Scale were used as data collection tools. The results of the hypothesis test show that there is a positive correlation with moderate strength between academic hardiness and psychological well-being in college students. The results of this study are useful for the development of positive psychology studies in the context of college students.

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic has some repercussions for the psychological well-being of students, such as anxiety, stress, and depression. However, few studies have been conducted about this among members of university student organizations. As activities of student organization had been halted during the pandemic, the well-being of the members could be affected. This study aimed to provide an overview of the psychological well-being of members of a university student organization “X” in Yogyakarta during the Covid-19 pandemic. Using an instrumental case study design with theory-driven thematic analysis, three participants were recruited through a purposive sampling. The results revealed that partcipants had positive pictures of some aspects on their psychological well-being and saw other aspects in a more negative light. Specifically, positive appraisals were reported in terms of four aspects: self-acceptance, positive relation with others, authonomy, and self-development. Meanwhile, two other aspects were reported as suboptimal: lack of purpose in life and environmental mastery. This might be due to a lack in goal-setting skills which in turn affect participants’ time management and priority setting between organizational activities, academic pursuit, and personal life.

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate posttraumatic growth (PTG) as a process and outcomes among adolescents facing trauma after losing parents due to Covid-19. This qualitative study used an instrumental case study approach involving three participants. Data were collected using the Posttraumatic Growth Inventory (PTGI) and through interviews with general guidelines. Data were processed using theory-driven thematic analysis and their credibility was ensured through triangulation. The results found that adolescents experience a process of PTG that involved cognitive, emotional, and social components leading to perceived positive changes which could be classified into five dimensions of PTG. This finding explained PTG among adolescents more comprehensively, as it portrayed PTG as a holistic unit, integrating both the process and the outcomes.

Abstract

The global prevalence of postpartum depression (PPD) has increased over the past two decades. The vast changes in the social and physical body are two crucial postpartum stressors in first-time mothers that may evoke depressive symptoms. This study aims to determine whether there is a significant effect of maternal self-efficacy (MSE) and body dissatisfaction (BD) towards PPD in primiparous mothers. The survey involved approximately 245 Indonesian primiparous mothers within the postpartum period of 0-12 months. Data was disclosed through PMP S-E, BSQ-8B, and EPDS. Regression analysis showed PPD was simultaneously (R = 0,433; R2 = 0,188; p = 0,00) affected by MSE and BD by 18,8%. PPD was also partially affected by both variables, with BD contributing higher (β = 0,167; p = 0,00) than MSE (β = -0,172; p = 0,00). MSE and BD are predictors of PPD in Indonesian primiparous mothers.

Abstract

Physical presence is crucial in almost every social event in Indonesia, but could potentially inhibit obedience to physical distance protocol during COVID-19 pandemic. This study (N = 114 undegraduates, 62,3% female; M age = 21,69; SD = 2,19) explored the extent to which adherence of physical distance could be predicted by three social-cognitive factors from the Theory of Planned Behaviour (i.e., attitude, subjective norm, and perceived behavioural control), autonomy motivation from the Self-Determination Theory, and past adherence behaviour. We found that 68.02% of the variance in intention to perform physical distancing in the future was predicted by autonomy motivation, attitude, and perceived behavioural control explained. Moreover, after accounting autonomy motivation the role of subjective norm and past adherence behavior were no longer significant. It is therefore timely to shift focus from merely reporting past adherence behaviour to promoting an individual’s autonomy motivation.

Abstract

Identity in the individual refers to the individual's awareness of oneself (true self) concerning various social roles. Identity development occurs during adolescence. During this period, they will explore multiple roles in society to determine their identity, including religious identity. The existence of religious conversion will have an impact on the development of their identity. The purpose of this study is to describe the identity crisis caused by religious conversion. The participant in this study is a 21-year-old woman who had converted her religion at the age of 18 due to marriage. The method used is a case study. Data were collected by conducting interviews. This study shows that religious conversion carried out by participant is considered to be the only way to solve the problem. In that condition, the participant experienced identity confusion which later became self-isolation, such as breaking off relations with peers and avoiding her new communities.

Abstract

Organizational citizenship behavior is an important issue in achieving effectiveness and efficiency within an organization. This study aims to determine the correlation between organization-based self-esteem and authentic leadership with employees' organizational citizenship behavior. This is a quantitative study with a sample of 382 civil servants from Boyolali, Indonesia, selected using a cluster random sampling technique. The instruments used are organizational citizenship behavior, organization-based self-esteem, and authentic leadership scale. Based on the results, there is a correlation between organization-based self-esteem and authentic leadership with organizational citizenship behavior. Organization-based self-esteem and authentic leadership are significantly correlated with organizational citizenship behavior (p < .05). This study found that authentic leadership and organization-based self-esteem are both capable of facilitating the emergence of organizational citizenship behavior in employees.

Abstract

Previous research has shown a significant correlation between positive affect and happiness. However, previous studies have used more conscious measures, while positive affect influences cognitive function through unconscious processes. This study proposes attentional bias as an unconscious process that is assumed to moderate the correlation between positive affect and happiness, especially in the adolescent population. This study used a correlational design with the total participants of 87 high school students (M = 16.5 years). Three measurements were used; Subjective Happiness Scale for Happiness, Positive and Negative Affect Schedule for positive affect, and Emotional Stroop Task for attentional bias. The results of the moderating analysis using Jamovi showed that attentional bias on word stimulus related to happiness and threat was significantly moderated the correlation between positive affect and happiness. The results of this study can be used as a reference for designing interventions on attentional bias in the adolescent population.

Abstract

Perception is influenced by four factors; beliefs, values, social influence and expectations. Expectations which affect perceptions are divided into two; expectancy violations and expectancy non-violations.  There is a difference in reaction time in perception when expectations match and when they do not match with reality. Treatment was given to a group of 78 college students, in the form of giving perceptions and expectations. Within participants post-test only design was used to see the difference in reaction times of the two treatments. Expectancy violations have a significant influence on the perception time of the participants. This can be caused by past experience which formed expectations, as well as the room layout in the partisipants' own residence.
