Abstract

Environmental friendly agriculture needs technology application which is adaptable to environment. Among other is application of soil conservation. However the research on integration of forages in soil conservation is conducted about last 30 years. Yet, not all of research results are adopted by farmers; there are lots of problems in application. The paper present research results of forages as soil conservation crops, especially in upper watershed which is done at many places for about more than 25 years. The outline of the paper is not based on time or region of works but more on the methods applied. The methods of soil conservation are (a) planting of forages on terraced sloping land, (b) grass strip, (c) three strata system, (d) cover crops and (e) alley cropping. On the other hand the problems of forages as soil conservation crops are also presented, (a) lack of socialize of the importance of forages and (b) unfamiliar of very good cover crops businesses.

Abstract

This research was aimed to investigate biological value of silage forage (panicium maximum CV. Riversdale + Centrocema pubescens) without fertilization and manure 25 ton/ha + sulfuric water 50%. The experiment used 12 sheep (average liveweight 34 kg) during 28 days laters. The result showed that forage silage treatment (P. maximum CV. Riversdale + C. pubescens) with manure 25 ton/ha and sulfuric water 50% positive respons to sheep performance.

Abstract

Gliricidia (Gliricidia sepium) provenance Retalhuleu seed garden has been established in 1992 in dry land farming at Bukit Pecatu Village, Bukit Badung Peninsula, South Bali, at 100m sea level, on red-brown mediteran calcareous-base soil, with 1552 mm rainfall, distributed during 4 months wet season and 8 months dry season. The Completely Randomized Block Design Arrangement consisted of 60 famili(F) as treatments, 6 blocks as replications and 10 plants per treatment were used in this experiment. The first harvest was carried out in November 1995 and the subsequent harvest was carried out in October-November each year. Results of 11nd harvests (16 year plant age) on seed production and quality showed that famili F12, F17 and F51 (ranking order) could be registered (priority rights) as planting.

Abstract

Forage is one of the supporting factors in planning animal production. Climate condition is one factor which influence forage production. This research attempted to map the class suitability of climate for seven forage species in Bali province and to analysis the level of vulnerability toward climate changes by using Geography Information System (GIS). The results showed that four from seven species observed have class suitability with climate S1. Rain climate factor was the important factor which was influence the climate unsuitability of forage in Bali province. The effect of climate change, such as La Nina 1998 caused positive and negative impacts towards the distribution of class suitability of climate at that year. The incident of La Nina caused the reduction of area of class suitability of S1, S2, and N climate, meanwhile increase the area of class suitability of S3 climate. On the other hand, some location of climate suitability class also changed due to climate change.

Abstract

Forage is needed by ruminant in large quantity. Several forages have low feed quality and then it is required to improve the forage quality that generally from gramineae and leguminoseae. Biotechnology using AMF is one of good strategic management on forage. AMF from the symbiotic mutualism with host plant through it’s root, has important role in plant production, ecosystem health. The best known mycorrhizal effect is that mycorrhizal plants take up more soil phosphorus and grow faster than corresponding non-mycorrhizal control plants. While spores are considered to be the resistant structure and may be viewed as ‘long term’ propagules when viable host plants are not present, hyphae are considered to be the main source of inokula when host plants are present and the soil is not disturbed.

Abstract

An experiment has been done during 6 months period in order to study the effect of goat urine and comersial liquid organic fertilizer (NASA®) as fertizers on some agronomic parameters which are related with potential forage production. Completely randomized design was used in this experiment which is consist of PO = control, P1 = 50% goat urine + 50% mineral water, P2= 100% urine, P3= NASA 0.25%, P4 NASA= NASA 0.50% and P5 = NASA 0.75%, with 5 repetitions. Some agronomic parameters observed were biomass production of tajuk, leaves dry matter production, numbers of leafs and leaf square. To observe the effect of goat urine observation were conducted in two growth periodes. The results of the experiment showed that the application of goat urine and comercial liquid organic fertilizer produce better results in all treatments compared to control. 100% goat urine treatment showed that better results in all parameters compared to commercial liquid organic fertilizers

Abstract

Impact of Mining Operations that can remove some parts of the vegetation, destroying most of the original ecosystem, increase the rate of erosion and runoff, reducing the biodiversity of native species, environmental destruction and wildlife, watershed degradation and unprofitable to support plant growth. Post-mining land must be done reclamation on the ground and then followed by revegetation. The study was conducted in February to June 2009 in Indocement Tunggal Prakarsa company. The design was used is a completely randomized Design Group with four treatments and three replications. The first treatment is without fertilizers (A), the second is adding of manure (B), the third treatment with artificial fertilizers (C), and manure combination with artificial fertilizers treatment (D). Data were analyzed using variance analysis (ANOVA), and if there is a significantly different followed by Duncan multiple range test. Variables have been observed were a number of primary and secondary tiller, production of the primary and secondary tiller, root and shoot dry weight production and absorption of N, P and K. The results showed on the first and second harvest in the treatment D showed significantly different (P <0.05) can increase the number of primary and secondary tillers, the length of spreading, dry weight production and uptake of N, P and K. Treatment D on the first and second harvest showed the optimal results compared with other treatments, although in some variables that are not significantly different with C and B, while A showed the lowest results. This proves that the fertilizer can improve soil fertility in the long term. D treatment is recommended in the development of pasture for Livestock Breeding Center and Incubator Lamb in Indocement Tunggal Prakarsa company.
