Abstract

Sky mustard is one of the herbaceous plants used by the community to treat diseases such as inflammation, malaria and fever. This herbaceous plant is believed to have secondary metabolites such as phenolics which have many functions. The aim of this research was to determine the total content of phenolic compounds in leaves and stems of sky mustard greens (Cyanthillium cinereum (L.) H.Rob). This research is experimental in nature, including collecting plant material, identifying plants, cold extraction using the maceration method using ethanol and boiled water as a solvent, phytochemical screening, and determining the total phenolic content of boiled water and equivalent ethanol extract of leaves and stems (Gallic Acid Equivalent (GAE)) or gallic acid by colorimetric method using reagents Folin-ciocalteu a wavelength of 760 nm using UV-Visible spectrophotometry. The result of phytochemical screening of sky mustard leaves and stems contain alkaloids, steroids, saponins, flavonoids, tannin, glycosides and phenols. The result showed that phenol levels were greater in the leaves than in the stem the ethanol solvents attracted more phenolic compounds than boiling, and the phenol by boiling was higher at 5 minutes at 0,649 mg/g GAE. For phenolic compounds using ethanol solvent, there was a yield of 748,33 mg/g extract.

Abstract

The success of treatment is determined by various aspects, starting from the right dose, the right route, the right medicine, knowing the right medicine, good packaging and understanding about BUD (Beyond Use Date). There are still many people who cannot distinguish between ED (Expire Date) and BUD. So far, ordinary people generally only recognize ED compared to BUD. This was shown in the question and answer activity in one group who thought that BUD was the same as ED. One of the men in the group explained that cough medicine is stored in the refrigerator and used for months as long as the medicine is still available and can be given to other patients. BUD is a very important aspect as it relates to drug stability and quality. BUD is a limitation on the use of drugs or the use of drugs after the primary packaging is opened or tampered with. The method used in this community service activity is to explore information to the community, to what extent they know the BUD on all forms of drug preparations, then from extracting this information, the team in community service activities provides explanations to the community around the Teladan Medan Stadium field on June 18, 2023, totaling 25 people with age variations ranging from 20 - 50 years. The results of this community service activity showed an increase in community understanding which was marked by the community's ability to answer questions.

Abstract

Abstract

Coffee mistletoe (Loranthus ferrugineus Roxb) is a plant that has been researched globally and contains metabolite compounds such as flavonoids, tannins, saponins, and alkaloids, which have been extensively researched to have natural antimicrobial and antioxidant effects. For centuries, mistletoe has been widely used in traditional medicine as an anti-cancer agent for diarrhea and other infectious diseases. The study's goals are to find out what kind of metabolite compounds are in the ethanol extract of mistletoe coffee leaves and how well that extract kills Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli bacteria. This research method is experimental, which includes collecting plant material, identifying plants, processing samples of coffee mistletoe into an ethanol extract of coffee mistletoe with a 96% ethanol solvent, and then testing phytochemical screening against coffee mistletoe simplisa. Antibacterial activity of an ethanol extract of coffee mistletoe against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli bacteria using the well diffusion test method. The ethanol extract of coffee mistletoe provides phytochemical screening results, including phenyl, terpenoids, and alkaloids. From the test results, it can be seen that the ethanol extract of coffee mistletoe can kill bacteria with the inhibitory power value of the extract on Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli bacteria, with a minimum inhibitory power of 7.5 mm at a concentration of 3.125 mg/ml against Staphylococcus aureus and 8.9 mm at a concentration of 3.125 mg/ml against Escherichia coli bacteria. Judging from the inhibitory zone value, it is in the weak category for the lowest concentration in inhibiting the growth of Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli bacteria.
